So, apparently my parents have decided I seem a bit run-down (translation: Mom thinks I look skinny). So they have decided to order gourmet frozen meals to be shipped to me.

I need to get concurrent ear infections, sinus infections, bronchitis, and colds more often!!!

Hmm...my mother just tries to fatten me up when I'm at home, but no meals by post here.

Then again, I made my first real holiday spread of my life today - lamb, mashed potatoes, green beans, and a chocolate silk pie for dessert (but everything except the lamb was heat up/thaw). Still.

Go for the bacterial hat trick: sinus infection, ear infection, bronchitis. That might get you meals by post.

Sounds yummy. We had a quiet dinner at home. Slightly bittersweet, as it's the first one without my maternal grandmother - whom we all miss dearly.

I heard it recently, but I don't remember where - a woman said that she doesn't say "why me?" to God when things are bad, because she doesn't say "why me?" when things are going well.

I know the first time after a close relative passes is tough (hell, I had an allergic reaction - moderate - at home less than a week after my dad died - I thought my mother was going to lose it), but, at the same time, you can also give thanks for the time that you had and the memories. Our loved ones continue to live as long as we remember them.

I know - hence the bittersweet. She lived to 96 - can't ask for much more than that.

Happy Turkey Day, everyone! EF: are residents required to come in on traditional breaks such as Thanksgiving and Christmas?

In the ED someone has to cover so people work at our ED everyone will be guaranteed to be off either christmas or New years. I will not be in the department so it doesnt effect me.

Keep in mind residents do a lot of the work so attendings dont have to (especially on non-ED services).

Oh, and EF, hope the ortho ends quickly for you. Sounds quite brutal.

me too. i am sort of unhappy. I dont feel like im learning much which really annoys me. If I am putting in 15 hours a day I just hope to learn something.

My father in law passed away totally unexpectedly right after thanksgiving about 2 yrs ago.. Makes turkey day less of a celebration.

back to ortho tom 6 am... I hope i can get out early.

i cant even express my frustration. I thought ob sucked but at least i felt like they treated me like i earned my md. on ortho im basically a secretary who didnt even graduate from trade school.

Wish I had tomorrow off...but I'll take what we expect to be a "light" day for the chance to miss 3 days next week for interviews.

im taking like 1/2 a call.. pure bs..(im just enjoying the opp to bitch a little)

hopefully its quiet and then i can just watch some football.

best news though is that we are now off spine and it is again a neurosurg thing.. excellent..

Now that my houseguest has headed back home I've been trying to make myself review for step 3. Painful.

I'm making myself head back to school tomorrow to study ALL DAY on Sunday.

I feel like all I've done this break has been be sick and then recover. Finally after one completed and one ongoing course of antibiotics, I"m feeling better.

My new motto: I will NOT fly cross-country when I'm sick, because no matter how much fun Vegas sounds like, it completely blows when all you want to do is sleep.

Glad that you're feeling better even though the timing sucked.

Good luck with your studying. Hopefully it'll go better than mine. 😉

Thanks DrMom. I've been pretty good this break - stuck to my "10 pages of Robbins a day no matter what" rule 🙂. Thus, I return to school being relatively on top of things. Yeah, I'm like that. It's kinda sad.

Other happy thoughts: I love going to the movies with my parents. Inner monologue: I want nachos. Outer monologue: "Dad, I'm hungry, can I have some money?" Someday, I will grow up. Until then, I will mooch off my parents for the little stuff.

There's been some rumbling about overzealous mods that are part of the "clique" (that YOU are not welcome to) moving any and all threads like this one to the "off topics" forum. I think we're lucky that our mods aren't part of that clique.

as long as there arent any emergent cases then life will be good.

the paths lead is shrinking thread with this one make up about 25% of all posts in the EM forum.. now if they want to do that in the pre-med forum we might have a shot at global domination!

Anyone an auto electrician? Want to fly to Honolulu and work on a Land Cruiser? It's a wiring nightmare. :scared: I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking when they replaced a bunch of wiring and lights and then left a lot of the old wiring in.

Probably easier to just go ahead and rip it all out and put an aftermarket harness in it. Then you won't have to worry about shorts, etc.

today has been better than those days in the past..

I am really, really, really sad. I just needed to share that.

I am back to civilization again. I love seeing all the old friends and some of the family, but I hate the isolation of a small town. I would die if there wasn't a big city nearby.

I think that I may end up doing that. I could have done a better job wiring with my eyes closed than this guy did. Apparently, he knew just enough to screw things up.

Happy (Belated) Thanksgiving!!

i think im gonna try to get some on-call sleep..

Good luck. You know, of course, your pager is going to go off just as you're slipping into sleep.

'Cause everyone hates a sleeping resident.

Damn...did you see that forearm fracture Junior Seau got during the NE/Chicago game? His forearm was literally bent in half. One of the more disturbing injuries I've seen.

How did I miss that!? I got festive a little early this year. Went to the beach and now I'm sporting a good old-fashioned Rudolph nose.

Just got called for our 2nd year autopsy. Wish me luck

How about a drunk lady rolled over her car and basically degloved her left elbow about 15x 12 cm.. you could see her bone and tendons etc. No skin to speak of.. Washed out in the ED and literally pieces of grass and specks of dirt were coming out..

weird as it is.. i got sort of vasovagal during ours.. it could have been that it was a little 8 month old stillborn baby.. it might have been when the pathologist grabbed the baby by the neck and lifted it up.. reminded me of my fellow fetuses.

That's peds for ya - we're all ooshy gooshy granola eating niceness. 😛 But hey, if the kiddo is stable, the peds folks can handle it. We do actually know how to take care of kids, and all.

Unemployment almost over. License coming next week.

Meanwhile, totally bored. Bored bored BORED.
