For Dr Mom... Here is what I learned yesterday during my ophtho rotation.

Do you know why squinting makes your vision better?

(answer when I get back today!)

Anyone with a thought on this topic.. For the record I stated (incorrectly) than it changes the shape of the lens.

I would guess it's an effect of limiting imput to peripheral photoreceptors

That would have been my guess.

Colfrobin.. correct basically.. you are able to focus more on the main object and reduce erxtraneous bs..Strong work..

Today was basically post-op day so not too much EM worthwhile material.. there were some interesting patients though.

Fine.

Nobody likes me, everybody hates me, think I'll go eat worms.

That is the theme song for today, at least for me.

Ophtho lesson for the day...

"We don't do Emergency Eye Glass fittings"

Cardiology lesson of the day:

My cardiologist told me last year a patient came in with anemia and chest pain, which according to family was contributed to him not eating any deer meat for breakfast. When my cardiologist asked the family how much deer meat they eat, one (big) family member stated he ate one little deer for breakfast this morning.

so the family really wanted deer meat on the admitting orders....

(not really a cards lesson, but who cares, this is just to boost our posts, right?)

What? "one little deer for breakfast"? WHAT? I guess bama really IS different..

yeah from the conversation it seems like this guy and his whole family were about 3 times bigger than a big deer....Its all relative really.

Man.. I eat 12 oz of cow and im full.. A whole deer thats some skill.👍

Did you ask him if he did competetive eating.. I dont know if Kobayashi could eat a deer..

OK, after months of resisting, I'm gonna set myself up. I've figured out almost all of the stuff that goes with the EM threads. But I still don't get Fatty McFattypants.

I searched and the earliest thread I got was 15 months ago but it was already established. It doesn't look like it referred to a PD then. So what was the original meaning of the Insult/Joke?

Go ahead and make fun of little old me, but somebody answer the question. 😕

There was that thread, which had a couple loudmouth trolls (who have since gone away, except I think one popped up for a few posts), and one of the loudmouths was being especially loud, and I said that they were an unknown quantity, and that's when they (2 of them) started deriding me, saying that my "thousands of posts don't mean anything" (paraphrased). It got more and more heated, and I believe (although I am too sluggish to dig it up) that "Fatty McFattypants" was a reference to my program director.

It spiralled from there, as these trolls fell away, and one guy ended up not getting ranked because of the way he insulted me (which I showed to my PD).

Wow, interesting story! For some reason I thought Quinn had coined the phrase.

Who in their right mind would insult you when he/she was applying to your program? That's not a very intelligent applicant.

I believe....(though I too am too lazy to dig) that quinn led the charge in making it everyday useage here soon after that thread.

Yeah it is used to defuse threads and to answer questions that are always asked things like.

Which Program is Best? Am I competetive etc..

While we're at it, could someone tell me what In 'n Out Burger refers to? Is it a trauma center? No one here has to explicitly name it, but I'm always confused as to what the phrase means.

In N out is a west coast burger chain and in these threads is always the answer to the "which residency is the best?" question

With all the talk of ROLs and match day on here, poor socute is left out 🙁. Anybody care to entertain me?

Actually this is what happened...

Apollyon's memory is pretty good but it wasn't one of the "trolls" who first used the term.

Since then its been used to close out any thread that starts to get too ridiculous especially if there is a lot of name calling going on.

I think it originally refered only to the In N out near DocB's hospital as the training there is apparently superior to the many imitators elsewhere in the west 😀

This thread has been pretty quiet since we destroyed the PATHogens..

Nice research skillz there MudPhud

So Wilco (Currently @ Christ) is the originator.. Congrats!!

Apollyon i looked at the KevinEM guy.. He didnt seem to like you too much.. Whats up with that?

Niiice, I remember that thread now but totally forgot what had occurred. Quinn stuck to his word and really did use that term a lot.

Whats weird is if you google "fatty mcfatty pants" its clearly been in use way longer than we've been using it.

While I was at it I googled "Things I learn from..." and we are now linked to a page and a half worth of other sites and while most think we're funny a few think we're a bunch a insensitive jerks

Yeah, I got the same feeling when I Googled for that phrase. Some people made statements about "how jaded they all have become". Personally, I think it's the humour and jokes that KEEP us from becoming bitter.
