Yeah I have 7 different free tshirts just for donating blood. I used to where them to workout but I haven't done that for a while. Now I mostly use em as PJs

So me and the wife are going to Paris.. I have been there before my wife never has. Outside of the obvious things anyone with thoughts on what to do, where to eat, what to bring back? Chateu D'Yquem etc? Dom P, Perrier Jouet.. Thoughts?

Best white burgundy: Montrachet (probably pricey at $900/bottle). Try it's cousins puligny-montrachet, batard-montrachet
Champagne: forget the Dom P or PJ. Try something you can't get in the US. Look for champagnes with seriel numbers starting with RM, means produced by the grower. Sometimes very interesting.
Chateau D'Yquem is a good sauterne (sweet desert wine) but I prefer the eisweins from the Rhein (cheaper too).
Reds? bourdeaux for very heavy meals (game). Burgundy for everything else- except seafood (go white, particlularly vouvray or other sauvignon blanc for shellfish).

We're museum people rather than night club types. The Louvre of course, but I like the Musee d'Orsay just across the river for 19th and early 20th art and sculpture. The building itself is an old train station, similar to the station in D.C. in Beax Arts style, gorgeous.

p.s. for the best wine, come by my house and I'll give you a bottle of a pinot noir that I made. Incroyable! 🙂

I think 900/bottle is a touch out of my *current* budget. I know Chateu Dyquem is $$ but I love desert wines and I think if we can find a good deal I might score it up. Good call on the Champagnes I am looking for something to celebrate (hopefully) with on Match day and then I have a bottle of the 1993 Royal Tokaji from Hungary that ill bust out on grad day for my family. Good suggestions on the museums. I def want to hit up the Louvre cause last time I was in Paris the workers at the Louvre were on strike so we missed out on that.

BKN any suggestions on a nice place for dinner or should we wing it with street cafes (which I love)! I know about maxims but that is way out of our price range as well. I may be driving through El Paso this summer so make sure you are serious about your offer... 🙂 I love a good Pinot Noir.. Though I must say the best Bold heavy reds are the Grand Tuscans, yummy!

Thanks for the help! I appreciate it!

I would never go to a 4 star. Way overpriced. You can hardly find a bad meal in Paris (well maybe at Mickey Ds). Just walk aroung and stop when you're hungry.

I got the Pinot. but if you want Italian, I made some really great Barbaresco too. Give me a PM if you're coming through.

So the street route it is! Yummy.. Best part IMO our hotel does NOT have breakfast.. So laziness wont play a factor and we will have to pick up crossaints or something similar on our way out to the sites. Oh last time I was there with friends we picked up some Crepes, they were so good we got seconds even though we werent hungry.. They also had GREAT fresh veggies which we used to supplement our cheap lunch eating.. Which included buying a bagguette or 2 for the 5 of us and buying deli meat and well as vegies from the market. we could eat for under $2 per person.. of course this was in 1999, they were still on the Franc and we had a 6.6 to 1 exchange rate or so.

God... nice.. socute.. I guess being a gymnast.. and you already mentioned your best ass-et... jeesh..

Maybe im becoming the dirty old man i always hoped I would be!

Since I am here I thought I would mention how come there was so little fanfare for post #3000 in this thread? Whats up with that!

I'm so ashamed of my weakness. I tried to stay strong I really did but there was one last tweak that had to me made. Now only 10 minutes of this slow torture left. I swear I was once a normal relaxed non obsessive person.

Homer J's quote..

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

...because if there's one thing that The Simpsons taught me to the tune of MC Hammer's song, it would be, "don't eat pork, not even with a fork...can't touch this!!!"

I had a vascualr surg attending who was jewish and we got talking and he found out I was jewish and my wife wasnt.. he wasnt happy with me (which I could tell by the look he gave me)..

My reply "Non-Jews can be good people too" 🙂 that defused an uncomfortable situation!

Dr. mom is here all calm and happy with her whole knowing where she is going next yr... 😀 How is the rotation mom? Another day of ophtho.. of course today was bash Em day... Sr Resident "You know the ED has no idea what to do with eye stuff (im paraphrasing)" (my thought bubble, wow here goes again.. hmmm 30 more mins til I go home), then he leads me to some study showing that the ED mis-treated 50% of "serious" eye problems. I came back and quesitoned the "methods" of the study.. poorly designed I told him, of course I also mentioned that if people in the ED were specialists in eye problems then the ophtho guys wouldnt have a job.. that sort of ended that discussion.

My peds sub I is going well. I'm a-floatin along.

You guys'll know where you're going before too long. 🙂

I swear I get the EM bashing on every single rotation. It really gets old, but I know it is a constant part of the profession. *sigh*

Yeah a little EM bashing is part of the downside of the best 😉 specialty!
