Only 14 days until match results are in.
First of all Mr Deuist. STEP OFF. Your treading on my turf 🙂 Second of all if you check my countdown thread you will see that you are way off! Third
I respect the above post pad none the less 🙂

EF, KUDOS for the transatlantic paddin skillz. You my friend can truly manufacture insperado! 🙂 I will try to pick up my padding after this weekend.

Ok all. Sadly, it is time for me to ban myself from SDN until finals are over. I will check in on Match day to double check that everyone got their first choice 🙂 but 'til then I bid you adieu!

yeah sorry deuist but we have already appointed colforbinMD official of the countdown.

so step off (or on) depending on where you are standing.

I see that I've touched on a sensitive subject.

haha, hmm maybe we can make you vice-president of the countdown official. This job entails that if for some reason colforbinMD cannot fulfill his duties, you will have to take over. Also, this will be a great stepping stone for any future endeavors of this matter.

The position is now on my CV just in case I have to scramble. 🙂
I think that as match day gets closer the idea of having a veep to post in my stead is a wise one cause I could pretty much crack and start having conversations with the steetsigns any day now. I will PM you at the first sign of a total meltdown Deuist and the job shall be yours! Provided you can pass these two tests:
What's 8-1?
What's 11-1?
To check your answers see my latest post on the Official countdown thread.

😡 So this thread is sleeping and I feel the need to gripe. Sorry if you subscribe to EMED-L and are reading this complaint twice.
I got my old tech job back to pay the bills till July. I worked there for four years during undergrad and left two weeks before I started med school. It was fun to be back. About 80-90 percent of the nurses were still there and even a few of the techs I had trained were still there.
After a hospital provided 2 day orientation, drug test, physical exam, and ppd I started back. I finished the orientation packet that is alotted for 4-6 weeks in only 2 12 hour shifts. I worked 2 more shifts and then I got called to the office and was told that I could not work anymore because I do not have a current CNA license anymore. The fact that I have a doctorate of medicine and 4 years experience is apparently meaningless. Nsg students are allowed to work as CNAs/Techs after only one year of school but me? Nope! The ED blames HR, HR blames the State Board of Nsg. I blame idiocy and am left jobless, broke and angry. 👎 😡 :meanie: 👎

Get a job waiting tables, its hard work but it pays much better.
Good thought. Sadly I live in a resort town and NOBODY is hiring till closer to memorial day.
Theres a bigger town about 30 minutes away but the few places that are hiring that I talked to aren't interested in hiring me for three months.

Ok, so I know I'm supposed to be gone (and I'm leaving again in like 5 mins) but I am trying to make summer plans and I want to see what you guys think. I have the option of participating in a summer externship program (officially "research" but it's like 8 weeks long, so not really) in EM or I can work for my dad (a lawyer). This would be a no-brainer if it weren't for one thing - the pay for the summer externship is not quite enough to cover my expenses for the summer. It's not a big deal, I have savings, a tax return, a babysitting job, some stripping skills (just wanted to see if you were reading!) so covering the expenses for the summer isn't really a big deal, but it is an investment of sorts (in my career). On the other hand, my dad just gave me a pay raise (I do some consulting for him from time to time).

With all that said - what would you guys do if you had M1 summer to do over again and had these choices (DO NOT SAY TRAVEL, I will be forced to kick your butts).

Oh, I forgot to mention. My supervisor would be the PD for my home program - so it would give me a chance to get to know him before I was an MS4 in need of a recommendation.

It's my birthday today. 🙂

I might be making a few +pad+ after the birthday juice is flowing through my veins tonight. Anyone wanna start a pot for my estimated EtOH level? 😛
HAPPY B-Day Hobbes. How young are ya?

My birthday is tomorrow and therefor I am going to make my guess in your BAC poll, MyBAC tomorrow -10.
Sorry but it's a known fact that angry people drink more. :meanie: GRRRRR

Here's a +pad+ and shout out to all the other Pices out there. Keep swimmin.

First of all - GO STUDY!

Second, do whatever you want, whatever will make you happy. This is truly the last, free, no obligation break you will have until retirement.

What he said!
If I were a betting man. I would bet you have a somewhat compulsive nature when it comes to your schooling, i.e. posting this question, being so active as an m1 on this post grad forum, mentioning your posting during a study break at least 20 times or so on this thread. This assumption of mine would lead me to believe that so far grades are good and will continue to be. IF this is a correct assumption then with you being a female (with stripping skills no less 🙂 ) applicant from a US allopathic school you would have little difficulty getting into a desired program. This then would lead me to say.......
TRAVEL.
At this point I am now ready to have an irish gymnast stripper kick my butt.
Wait a minute at ANY point I am ready for that.
P.S. Will lawyer dad not help subsidize the externship? I mean to keep ya off the pole and all

If the above are not true or if they are and you stubornly refuse to travel then my vote is the externship. Not only because it will be a potential plus to your career but also because with a bunch of EM docs has gotta be better then working with a bunch of lawyers.
P.P.S: I know BKN I shouldn't quote myself. Sorry

Thanks for the input so far (keep it coming!). I am not opposed to traveling, it's just that I do have a mortgage to pay, and could not afford to do that and travel without taking from my emergency fund. And I don't consider the "need" to go to Europe an emergency 🙂.

Lawyer dad subsidized many many things, but called it quits after I started med school. Although if I tell him that I will be forced to strip in order to cover the mortgage for which he cosigned (pauses to think)...

In any case, my grades aren't fabulous (I'm an an H/HP/P school) because for the first two years it is incredibly difficult to get anything over a P. However, I study hard and I "play well with others" so perhaps I will find success on the boards and on the wards (at least that's what I tell myself). I keep telling myself over and over again, "Marathon, NOT A SPRINT." So who knows, I've always been a "go the distance" kinda girl. Back to physio. I love physio 🙂.

Do I have to pull this forum over?

Do some research it will help get a Strong LOR. Working for your dad doesnt add much excitement to the resume IMO. A little research will help and a real solid LOR will!

All that being said if given the option do something fun and I dont know about where FF went to school but i scheduled step 2 in time to have 2-3 weeks off before I started M3 yr.

socute.. as far as grades dont worry too much right now. from what PDs and advisors have told me they lag in importance to Step 2 3rd yr grades, and LORS.. worry not...

It's bedtime for this studied-out chica. Big day tomorrow, though 🙂. Meeting with a pedi EM guy at school!!! YAAAAYYYYYY!!!

6 hours in the ED tonight. All we've had are dizzy spells and non-localized abdominal pain. I guess that's the burden of living in Boca Raton. I thought surely one of the old guys would have coded during that time period.

How's Civ4? I've been a fan of the last 3 games.

Better graphics, some postive changes (a little more complex) some negative (no more armies, use of religion in the game is overrated). Overall 👍 its something to do and on top of that it makes me use my mind which is something I havent had to do in a while 😀

There are also some other new features like "work boats". and some other features which are different.

Lastly the city improvements dont provide the same benefits as they used to.

Overall I think it is better.. One other downside is no unlimited movement with railroad.

A little am postpaddness.. Anyone impressed with my Miami Heat winning 10 in a row?

good god, ectopic, you think you've padded 'nuff one liners there? 😉
i've no motivation to be doing anything anymore.
