I called admissions originally because the secondary application form didn't mention that letters from science faculty can substitute for the letter from the premed comittee/dean/academic advior. It's also written in the AACOM catalogue it says "individual faculty letters do not fulfill this requirment." Admissions told me that they need the certification letter from a dean/pre-med committee but can also submit additional letters from faculty for more support. I just meant that if anyone wants to make sure that this is true to call the admissions office to check just in case!

Yes, I might start balding. Soon enough we should know. I keep thinking I'm local, maybe I'll get it before three weeks with quicker mail. But then I realize, I'm local, the mail around here is terrible.

And that is completely right, nothing short of a letter from Still M.D./D.O. will get an applicant out of sending the "dean recommendation letter". You will have to send that regardless. If you don't have a committee then you are to send indiv. professor letters. Hope that makes more sense 👍
 
On the secondary application it asks what health experiences you have had? Did you guys type a response to this question on a separate page like the first question? or did you just list the experiences on the application itself?
 
My application was complete .. for those who have interview invites how long did it take to hear from PCOM and how did you hear...mail,email etc
 
i guess ill be a tad cruel and tell people the committee met tuesdays and the letters started arriving today. you may all mug the postman now.
 
I called admissions today and they said that the committee was meeting today, but he seemed somewhat confused? He checked my file and just said that he saw that I had already interviewed and should be hearing from them in the next two weeks. Ahhh!! i hope the letter doesn't say anything that he wouldn't want to tell me over the phone! :scared: This is the most stressful month ever.

the letters were sent yesterday I know because someone i know got in. They are not allowed to tell you over the phone.
 
i'm having a problem with the whole letter from college dean/advisor thing
i had like 4 different advisors through my 4 years of undergrad
i'm graduated now so i cant really go back to find an advisor and have him/her write me a letter
i'm trying to correspond through email to them about it
but all i got so far is "you can replace it with a letter from career services"
great, like i got to know anyone in career services well enough to write a letter for me!!!
i'll be calling them tomorow to sort this out
 
The letter is essentially a form letter that states you graduated from our school and had no problems. It is not a recommendation, you send those seperately. The person who writes the letter doesnt have to know anything about you.

A Vacation sounds sOOOooo~ Good. But my molecular exam is waiting for me around the corner 🙁.
However, I should be able to just focus on the study now~😀.

I got back from the open house about 2 hours ago. I was really impressed. Stan (might as well be a real human) was amazing to hear about 😉. Also liked the talk of the laprocscopic and endoscopic simulations. Panel discussion was really informative and funny at times (Leport and one student chastising another, haha). They even mentioned the OMM/OMT fellowship and made reference to a grad that finished it last year and is now a surgical resident (I wonder who that could be? 😉). One question I didn't get to ask: grades? pass/fail/honors? Is it competetive?

Hey man I was one of the tour guides. I guess you were not in my group. :laugh::laugh:

Our grades are numerical. 90-100 A 80-89 B...etc.

In regards to the competitive atmosphere, I bet that varies between classes. Overall, the campus is pretty chill and my class is really close. I know the class of 2011 is close because they refer to themselves as the Family of 2011...or something to that extent.

I'm C/O of '13. I will be applying next year. The OMM presentation was extremely informative, opened my already "open" eyes. It was nice to hear the science behind it. Another question... The highrise next to campus, is that a retirement community or do students live there?

Does anybody know how long P.C.O.M. takes to decided if they want to interview you, after you're complete? It seems like they are taking their time, according to the interview invite thread anyway... and I'm waiting anxiously!

As of yesterday (Friday) they were up to date according to Deb, director of admissions. The committee will be meeting in 3-4 weeks I think she said (for those that have interviewed). There are e-mails coming out this week (about 45 or so) about interviews. She told us this at the open house, so take it with salt, I may have misheard.
 
the tour i was on was a bit disorganized since I did one in the spring........I thought the open house was ok yesterday. The panel discussion cracked me up when the chiropractor thing got brought up. I got to do one in the spring during the daytime which is nicer just because you can see everything.

I have a question concerning that pamphlet for application they handed out though and no one was there when I ducked out a bit early last night to answer my question.

for MCAT scored, it says an 8 is required in every section, how true is that? I called in the summer and they said i'd be ok with my 7 in PS, but that pamphlet says otherwise. Anyone care to chime in? PCOM is one of my top choices being from around there. my MCAT breakdown was 7PS/11VR/10BS.

This was brought up during QandA after the tours. Deb, again, said that there are no screening cutoffs so if you have a 7 with those other scores you should be competitive with a good overall application. Call the school to make sure, but I don't believe (atleast that's what I got from it) there is a hard cutoff.

I'm glad you found the chiropracty comment comical too. So glad the 4th year said something. As soon as the comment about chiropracty was made my mouth dropped and I looked at every single student and they didn't know what to say. Definitely an "oh snap" moment.

Unfortunately no one can give you this answer, it is going to vary depending on the applicant and what they think.

To give you an idea my gf and I both applied last year and it took her more than a month to hear, but for me it was two weeks on the dot.

Just get it in and then do your best to be patient. Goodluck


Oh and congrats to all those accepted, I will probably be at your orientation week as a big brother. Relax and have a good summer because come August it gets crazy, haha.

Like Animus said, the time frame varies from 2 weeks- months. PCOM recieves roughly 5K apps a year, so just hope your application stands out. If not, its possible you will be waiting a little longer to get that invite.
 
I'm going to be completely honest... It took me from mid-October when I was complete until the second week of January to get an interview invite from PCOM. It was my last interview invite that I received.

PCOM receives the greatest amount of applications of any DO school. You have to show continued interest and above all else, try to be patient.

Good luck guys, and remember to breathe... oh and ENJOY YOUR TIME BEFORE MED SCHOOL!

Also realize that PCOM continually reevaluates the applicant pool so just because they decided to not give you an interview in october doesnt mean you will not get one later. They tend not to reject people to the very end so there is always hope you will get an invite and there are admissions spots, not waitlists, available on the last day of interviews. it is harder to get in at the end vs the begining but they still make it possible.
 
I was complete probably around mid-end of July? It took them a while to start reviewing applications, but I recieved my interview invite in late august for late september? I guess I'm not the best person to ask. haha.

yup!! I'm going to PCOM, and soooo excited!😍 now i just have to figure out this whole ginormous down-payment
