PCOM-Ga Discussion Thread 2010-2011

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From what I remember from my mid-Oct interview, the committee was meeting again on Nov 17-ish and that we should have letters/decisions by early December (e.g. allowing 2 weeks for letters to be signed).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed! I really liked the school and the students were SO SO SO friendly (the most friendly of my interviews so far)!!

I told you, it's all downhill after us 😎

That is what I thought too. They mentioned that if we have not heard from them in four weeks to give them a call because that shouldn't happen and for those that interviewed Oct. 18/19 and Oct. 25/26 that would be before Nov. 17 and certainly way before early December. Not sure what to think now.

Wait.... I thought the turn around time *was* 2 weeks! :-( And I was pretty sure Trena told us that we would definitely hear something by a month. Today was two weeks for me though. I was so excited I went to go check the mail myself instead of waiting for family to pick it up. Didn't find anything. Maybe next week...

Hey guys,

Just had my interview today and was hoping to send my interviewers a quick thank you email. Can't seem to find their email addresses anywhere though...could someone PM me the emails for Dr. Jenney and Dr. Watson? Thanks!

email Trena and she will forward them, and she really does because one of the interviewers emailed me right away.QUOTE=warmtoast;10292004]Hey guys,

You will find in med school that google is probably the most powerful tool at your disposal...tricky to learn but once you've got it down the world is at your fingertips

yea but it still doesn't have their email addresses on the web site. just email the thank you letters to trena and she'll forward them.

I am just asking and not trying to offend....If the emails are not on the school's general website could it be possible that they do not want emails from the public? I am just trying to learn proper email manners..🙂

I should be hearing soon from this school I hope it is Welcome and not a Sorry...

But I heard they reward those who are clever enough to crack the code to how PCOM assigns email addresses. Huh...

Seriously though, do whatever is easier and whatever you feel most comfortable with. Hope those of you waiting hear soon. If you have questions about the school or the OMS-1 experience thus far let me know.

I asked this before, and now that the letters are going out this upcoming week I will ask again.🙂

What size are the acceptance letters in the mail please? Are they thick or thin? I am just curious about what to expect.

I hope we all get good news this week:xf:

nm, interview invite today!!!! anyone else get one?

Congrats on the invite!! So when exactly were you complete?
Also, you mentioned your stats are low, would you mind sharing what they are. Good luck on the interview.

Lastly, have you received any other interview invites yet?

My acceptance letter was Seam-busting thick

Literally, it wasn't sealed anymore

Thank you.....so now I can pray to the acceptance gods for a VERY THICK envelope in the mail

i second that! i cant believe i am fortunate enough to even receive an interview!!

When did you interview kaernm? (if you did)

MedicineMike - haven't read these in a while, things are pretty crazy as a first year but I wanted to give you a heads up. I had a solid GPA, good extra currics, great LOR, but a 23 MCAT. Interviewed great in Dec. but they really want to see at least an 8 in each section (which is entirely possible with your 24, I don't know your exact stats). I ended up taking it over, raised it a good deal, and ended up getting accepted in March.

What I'm trying to get at is own the interview and them know why you want to be here, but they may want to see another MCAT in the end (and I know you really don't wanna take it again....). Good luck on your interview and let me know if you (or anyone else) has any questions

quick question.
Is the letter of recommendation from DO required? If it is, can it be replaced with MD?

You do not need either a DO or an MD, but it is recommended that you shadowed a DO.🙂

Get a D.O. letter!!! Osteopathic.org, make calls, shadow 20hrs, and get a letter!!!!

I received an interview invitation today and will be interviewing on November 23rd 😀

Quick stats:
Out of state applicant (Louisiana)
Secondary received: 9/30, marked complete: 11/4 (I was really slow in mailing the secondary back), received interview invite today!

AACOMAS sGPA and cGPA: 3.26
MCAT: 27Q (have two lower scores, but they are no longer valid)

I have 8 years of research experience with a lot of publications and poster presentations as well as some clinical volunteer experience.

I am soooo thrilled about this interview!! I've had a lot of terrible luck with med school admissions and I'm happy that I'm finally seeing a brighter side 🙂

Now...since I'm flying Delta, I'm praying that I'll make it back home for Thanksgiving 😀

Congrats on the interview invite!

I must say that I am confused and more then a bit jealous that they reviewed your app and invited you so quickly. I have been complete since late sept. and still have not heard a thing from them.

I have the same MCAT as you, better gpa, but less impressive EC's (but still decent).

I really just have no idea how the whole admissions process works.
Don't get me wrong, I am genuinely happy that you have received your invite, I just don't understand why they have been sitting on my app for almost 2 months but review yours almost instantly, especially considering our similar stats.

Good luck on your interview, when is it?

Just wanted to see if anyone from the October 18/19 interviews had heard any news. I think the committee was supposed to meet today though. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!

I was in that group. Yeah, she said that they would be meeting today, but no word (didn't really expect there to be). I'm kinda tempted to send her an email and ask if I got in. I've already waited this long though, so I guess I can wait a couple weeks longer.

Yeah I have been tempted as well. Guess I'll wait for the letter unless someone happens to find out by calling or emailing between now and then. Good luck!

Believe it or not, I do understand where you're coming from 🙂 I'm surprised they acted on my app so quickly. One thing I didn't mention in my stats was that I completed a post-bacc program at Tulane SOM last year (I completed the anatomical sciences sequence with the first-year med students) and although I did quite well, the adcom still screwed me over 🙄 Maybe that could be something that set us apart...

This is my 4th admissions cycle (2nd time with DO programs), so I understand how terrible the waiting game is. I really hope things work out for you. Have you been in touch with the admissions office since your app was marked complete?

I'm thinking happy thoughts for you :luck:

Btw...interview is next Tuesday, the 23rd.

Hey guys... Here is a link to Trena's Facebook Page.... here is what she quoted this afternoon at 1500... "Yes, committee meeting was today, however information will not be given over the phone...letters will be sent out in the next 2 weeks. Thank you for your understanding."

On November 13 at 0832 she posted... "Travel season has finally come to a slow down! I will be in my office M-F 8am-4pm. A SDN Update...admissions committee will be meeting this WED, Nov 17th. Letters will be sent out hopefully by the beginning of the following week prior to the holiday. We have only met 1 other time at the beginning of Oct, so for anyone who interviewed after Oct 5th, this will be the meeting for your interview."

Anyone else in the 10/19 interview group on here? PM me if you are, I would like to follow up with you all! You guys rocked. Good luck!

Thanks for the info! I interviewed on 10/18, so I'll keep my fingers crossed for all of us! Good luck to everyone!

Silly question for those of you who already interviewed: on PCOM's website, it says that the interview takes place with a panel - osteopathic physician, faculty, member of adcom and a student. On SDN's interview feedback, I noticed some posts saying they were interviewed by two people at the same time.

Which is it???

Last year I only had one faculty member, a PhD, but this year it seems like people have been getting two faculty members, I think mostly our PhDs

i think just two! Thats what everyone has been saying this time so far.

I was scheduled to interview with Dr. Mitchell and Trena, but ended up interviewing with only Dr. Mitchell because Trena was not feeling well that day. I think everyone that interviewed on 10/18 had 2 interviewers as well, so I would bank on that. As far as the interview goes, Dr. Mitchell was fantastic...really laid back and easy to talk to. The interview itself was very conversational and I think the only questions he asked me were...Why medicine?...Why DO?...What I could see myself doing in the future?...And talked some about playing baseball in college but that's about it. I know it's easy for people to say after the fact, but I really wouldn't stress about the interview at all. From the minute you walk in the door that morning, everyone from the staff/faculty to the students makes you feel very comfortable and welcome. But even with that said, being a little nervous is very understandable and shows it means something to you. Good luck and I hope everything goes well!

Thank you for your comment! I've been told I interview well, but I'm still nervous about this interview b/c it's PCOM and it's Georgia!!! I want to go here so badly. I'm a little stressed out about having less than a week to prep and I'm sooooooo swamped at work, it's ridiculous.

I've been hearing from a lot of people that the faculty, staff and students at PCOM-GA are very friendly. This certainly helps ease the stress b/c I've only had one D.O. interview (LECOM-B in '09) and it scarred me 🙄

you don't really need to to prep for the interview. just read over your secondary and u should be fine. it's all about your personality at this point.

Oh hunny, I can only imagine. LECOM-B scared me to death and that was only at the open house! I love going to GA-PCOM, out of all the interviews I had, this was by far the most welcoming and most relaxing. As long as you have your personality shine through in the interview, you'll be just fine. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to PM me!

Good luck to all of you on your interviews! You'll be fine! :luck:

Does anyone have a working link for the status check?

Does anyone have a working link for the status check?

Sometimes I do.... the link for status check has been hit or miss for me. Sometimes it works, and other times I get an error message and it doesn't work, so I am not sure what's going on with that situation.

Mine worked for a couple of days after I received notice they received my secondary, then I noticed a few days ago it wasn't functioning properly.

i think they are using a new webhost/server or something. It didnt work for a day or so for me, and then when it did, the page looked completely different.
