post your preliminary scores

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You have a pretty good chance me thinks. Being an RN still means you have Medical field experience. Also i herd pharmacy schools like Graduates (more than undergrads), Just something i've herd not something that's true. You can also easily find somewhere to volunteer as a Tech. Near my school there's a place where you can volunteer as a pharmacy tech and a lot of my friends have volunteered there. The only thing you'd need is a recommendation from a pharmacists, Family friend would work perfectly.

I don't have a four year degree. I only have an Associates in professional nursing. I'm just kinda not happy but could be worse. I did better than 82% of people who took the exam right?

Yeah basically. But that's a really good score nonetheless, so i don't think you should really be worried about it. You can just apply to a few schools and see what happens, I mean you came this far right>?

Chem and QA were easier like a joke. Bio was uncertain (I always got ~80 in practice tests and 79 on PCAT)
VA and RC were super tough....with numerous unseen vocabulary....I was shooting for 60-80s but ended up 30s...still my composite is 93

How did everyones Pearson test scores compare to your PCAT today?

VA 437 94
Bio 411 63 (yikes)
RC 415 78
QA 434 93
Chem 412 68 (double yikes)
Comp 422 88

Anyone know if this is acceptable? My GPA is a 3.3 from a top tier (MIT), tons of extracurriculars (+ a paper published), and recs that should be good. Anyone know what my chances are looking like?

minokim- when I took the pearson pcat I noticed that most of the ones i couldnt get (long paragraph ones/calc ones) were not experimental and counted toward my score. what types of questions were you skipping that you thought were experimental?

SS PR
VA 443 96
Bio 447 97
RC 425 90
QA 426 88
Chem 434 91
Comp 435 97

I honestly thought I did terrible on quantitative ability. Time management is the hardest part though. From reading other people's posts I think if English is your first language then don't worry about VA or RC, just make sure you watch the clock on RC b/c it is a lot of reading. Bio and chem were easier than expected (I should point out that I am bad at chem but good at bio). There is not nearly enough time for the math though IMO.

Does anyone else know if the preliminary scores are close to what you actually get? I know one person confirmed it but I am in disbelief and would like further encouragement.

VA 427 87
Bio 421 79
RC 419 84
QA 417 78
Chem 424 93

So maybe not the sexiest score here, but is this a generally competitive percentage?
I agree with KingKoil, I'd like to know from some other people if these are close to what you actually get? When the writing score is returned does that change the composite score any?

I understand that the sheet they give you contains your % scores, but does it tell you how many questions you missed overall, I'd reallly love to compare the score im getting and see what % im at.

I have a few questions for those who have taken the PCAT already:
1) Do we need to know the atomic masses and numbers of the elements on the periodic table? (I'm assuming we do have to... Since the PCAT books I have seen do not give that information?)
2) Should we, the July 18th test takers, memorize the AA acids, nitrogenous bases, etc?

I'm not really up to date on social issues today (I don't watch the news or keep up with anything going on in our society lol), so will it be harder for me to answer the essay question or are the topics generally easy?

I was really shocked by my verbal score. When I was taking the Kaplan practice exams I scored in the 50 percentile range twice. Though, the analogies in my actual exam were exponentially easier than the practice. I also felt I did better in the QA section, but I could've just been tired. I'm glad I'm done though!

Congrats that's SO awesome! Did you study Dr. Collins/ how did you prepare for the exam?

Wow everyone getting really good verbal ability scores but me=(

Honestly though, I went through the verbal and it was very tough. Many of the connections I couldn't figure out cause the words they gave were new to me. I studied collins verbal, but it was of little help. Maybe 1 or 2 questions I recognized how to do, but nothing that I had seen before from the practice exams. I also see some ppl scoring really high in the sciences but bombing the verbal too. Perhaps that section of the exam was just very tough?

Hi guys! Took my PCAT today and did surprisingly well!

I didn't know what Dr. Collins was up until a few days ago when I started reading these boards in anticipation of the exam. I pretty much just used the Kaplan book and some cheat sheets I made while I was taking Ochem (that was unnecessary though, I thought it'd be much more reaction intensive). I started studying this past month. I actually felt a bit unprepared, but I'm definitely satisfied now!

Oh gotcha! Thank you for letting me know!

1) no. You are given all the masses in the exam question.
2) I wouldn't stress about it. I might have had one or two questions, but it wasn't heavily stressed at all.

How much Ochem was on your version of the exam?
I haven't truly mastered the art of ochem yet. I learned it like 2 years ago... But, all the information got pushed to the back burner in my mind 🙁

not much. U dont need to memorize how reactions work per say, but knowing what they do and how to use them does come in handy. Also naming is pretty big. study the biochem stuff though is all ill say

Biochem as in cycles (glycolysis, TCA, etc) or more of the amino acids/nitrogenous bases?

There was not much at all! Maybe a few questions and one was an easy "what type of reaction is this?" while the others were more "predict the products" type. There were definitely a lot more general chemistry questions so I would not be too worried. Just review some common reactions (addition, dehydration, substitution) and some of the benzene reactions. Maybe look at the carboxylic acid stuff too but I would not spend a lot of time on it. They weren't too detailed. I maybe had 5-6 questions total about OChem, maybe even less.

I believe RC and QA were way harder than the first two Pearson tests (only ones I took). I left like 5-7 blank on QA and found the RC passages more difficult to comprehend.

Verbal 82

Surprised myself with an 82 on verbal, got ~60-80 on the practice tests. Chem was about the same difficulty and bio i though was a tad harder. Still really disappointed with my RC and QA scores though. If I had pulled at least 60s like the practice tests I'd be in the 90s composite 🙁. I really needed a strong pcat score with my 3.1 gpa

I'm in the situation here. My school (U Washington) also requires a minimum of 25%. I'm so frustrated right now.

I can try. I started studying in late May, so about 2 months of studying. I originally just had Dr. Collin's. I put each subject on a day of the week, giving myself a break on Saturday, and paced it so I'd only do one test a day. Played catch up some days but it worked out! Also kept a journal of the tests and wrote down what I learned from a wrong problem. It made going over the old tests really easy later on. Then I became aware of the Pearson tests a week before the test. Bought those and took them.
For Verbal I would definitely suggest Dr. Collin's. It's hard to improve here like others said, but there were multiple analogies that I recognized from Collins.
For Bio, Collins is good. There's so much and so many small details in the bio section, but Collins does a good job of giving a good overview. So collins + reviewing the pearson answers helped me here.
For Chem, COLLINS. No better chem study guide. Everything that is covered is in Collin's.
For Reading, pleasee don't rely on Collins. It's about 5 times easier than the real test. I've heard MCAT passages help? But finding my own strategy in the Pearson tests is probably what helped me
For Math, I thought Collin's was good. The calculus is a little lacking, I think though. For limits, and simple derivation/integration it's good, but nothing much else is covered. Again learn from Pearson test reviewing. Also learning to make educated guesses important because of the lack of time.
Hopefully this helps someone!

i need your advice please! i'll take my pcat on September, but i fell like i need more time because i have to rives every course and i took it along time ago. English is also my second language.i have already ordered Dr.Colins study guide, and have Kaplan book. can i push the exam to October does that interfere with my application with PharmCAS? thank you!
