Honestly I want to ask this question though, where do med schools draw the line in trying to pick the "Perfect" applicant? Noboby is perfect. What next? Restrictions based on how many people we've slept with? Is there anywhere people can go to let their hair down without being horribly judged? Med schools just keep piling up the mountain of unrealistic expectations but I guess all the people on adcom's are/were perfect in their youth.

What!? There is no unrealistic expectation. There's a huge difference between sleeping with people and putting others down and degrading them. If you're on a forum and disrespecting human beings just because you think it's an anonymous forum, especially future classmates and have a history of making racial comments well then I think a medical school has the right to be very cautious about giving you a degree that will have their name on it for the rest of your life.

Becoming a physician is not a right but it is a privilege. You don't need to be the perfect human being but you have to show some degree of self respect and most importantly respect for others. Even though some think the world of the internet is "fake" and shouldn't be taken seriously this is the world where true colors shine. Many jobs use social networks to judge applicants and those jobs don't even represent a portion of the education, social respect and responsibility of a physician. When each school has roughly 7000 applicants they have the right to find the perfect fit for their school. Crying and whining about the expectations is just pathetic. Medical school is for responsible adults that rise to the challenge not middle school kids that cry about the bar being set too high and want to be spoon fed everything.

You make it sound like med school adcoms are sending out private investigators to dig into the lives of applicants.

If you voluntarily and willingly give someone information by which they can judge you then you should fully expect that they might use it against you. Nowadays your online persona and activities are an extension of your real life persona. This wouldn't be the first time when someone's online activity got them in trouble in real life nor will it be the last.

As for those who say that the school should've given the OP a disciplinary hearing or afforded him any other courtesy.... if this in fact turns out to be real, the school doesn't owe him anything nor have they invested anything in this particular person. He is easily replaceable at this point in the app cycle.

And there are alot of increasingly personal attacks here and when confronted, the SDN'er backs off with platitudes about this only being the internet. Not acceptable.

Exactly as an accepted applicant you have little to no rights until you've actually matriculated meaning went through white coat ceremony, orientation and attended first day of class.

Personal attacks in such a manner are not illegal. I can post and claim that I think someone is an idiot without breaking any laws. A JUDGE (not a lawyer) can compel the information from you if it is somehow warranted. This would be if it relates to a case, if you have made threats and may be a danger. Whatever. But simply being mean is not a crime and warrant an invasion of privacy.

Given the time we spend online on the plethora of social media and other platforms out there, this "This is not the real world" argument is not going to hold much weight soon. And sorry to play the broken record again but the internet is public space. If you don't want to be judged by it don't put it out there...

They are not illegal but they do not exactly suggest a person is reasonable or respectful of others. Nobody likes to hang out with mean or rude people.

I have to disagree with you on this one. There's definitely a line that schools have to draw. Someone bringing negative attention to the school, especially by being abrasive to others, is fair play for review. If you know the person in question, you know that he/she has built a negative reputation (in fb at least). There are a number of people that have issues with this person. But really the straw that broke the camel's back was the blatant racism. It's behavior that's simply not excusable. Added to that is the fact that the letter alludes to threatening behavior. They say that this persons actions are severe enough that they are considering forwarding them to the authorities, so we don't even know the true extent of what the school saw. So if he/she had simply had some online arguments or acted somewhat immature, things wouldn't have lead to where they have.

??? Are you talking about an update on the situation or is this part of another conversation? Unless I got WAY too involved in studying it is only saturday. Also, this will likely be a "good news or no news" sort of situation. I don't anticipate him coming in to tell us if it was all real.

I would but I think it'd be less stressful since you have money to fall back on. I'd still want to do something worthwhile.

Nobody's perfect. But we do expect people to behave in a professional manner before, during and after medical school. Professionalism is a big deal to us. Being human and yourself is one thing, being immature, criminally stupid, or sociopathic is NOT someone we want touching other human beings, or having lives dependent upon. Capeesh?

The way I see it is that he'll tell someone that will tell the rest of us if it's true that they rescinded his acceptance. If not true, he has to come back and clean up the ACOM name.

Its not about being perfect. If we're going into a profession where we have to provide care to other human beings, there has to be a certain extent of responsibility and professionalism present in the applicant. Nobody's perfect but as individuals interested in this profession, we have to be responsible and have some judgement of right and wrong. Even in online communities.

It doesn't matter. No one deserves a rescindence of their acceptance. I was in the position of interviewing four years ago. Now, graduating in June, I can't imagine anyone being told "Jk!" It's too cruel.

I read in the NSU-COM thread this did happen. Guy got an acceptance email one day and celebrated with family and friends. Next day got a WL letter, and was obviously confused. After a few days he got a hold of admissions, where they told him the WL was the final decision. I felt really bad for him :/

This is why I am so paranoid about the process. How can you get an acceptance and then a WL?!

I can't remember when but it was during the second or so batches of acceptances. So August-September?
