Questions about UCSF?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I just thought I'd bump this thread up. I'm going to be a P3 at UCSF next year, and if anyone is working on applications I might be able to help or answer questions. Ha, ha, it might be a little early though. I don't know how early people start on applications. 😛

The UCSF supp is rough! It's only the third one i've seen, but still....
Those questions are really tough to answer

Can someone tell me my chance of getting into UCSF? Although I have a good GPA, my EC aspect doesn't look great. My statements (I think) are ok but not so strong. And I know UCSF tend not to look at GPA only.
I did vonlunteer at the hospital (pharmacy related) but it was only 30 hours. I also have a few hours volunteering in the library. I did not join any club 🙁. My work experiences (3 years) are non-pharmacy related but are health-related. I also did research (+400 hours). Recently, I volunteer at an independent pharmacy but I could not put it on PharmCas since I already summitted PharmCas 🙁.
I really want to get into USCF and I am worried about my chance.
Thanks.

Any research experience under your belt? Co-lined publications? Anything?

I had great experiences since I had my own project and worked independently, but it was only a ten week program (summer). Thus, there was no publication.

There are never any guarentees about getting in. All you can do is try your best if UCSF is where you really want to go. No one really knows what their formula is for excepting applicants. Joel keeps it very hush hush. It sounds like you have some really interesting experiences that you loved. The key to the supplemental is taking what you learned from those experiences and expressing how you have grown as a person and why you want to be a pharmacist. Show your passion and maturity. It is also about expressing those key characteristics that make you unique, i.e. leadership, humanity, passion for making change etc. You have lots of time to work on the essays. Keep plugging at them. Don't focus on how many hours you did a certain activity. They are not looking at that neccesarily. They want to see what you bring to the table and what you learned through your various activities. That's really what the essays are about. They want to read about who you are. I hope this helps.
