Welcome to Part 6! Everyone did a bang up job by hitting 10k in less than 12 days--11 days 19 hours and 18 minutes to be exact. A new record! 😀

For those not familiar with what we do here, Molly has been kind enough to put together a nice description.

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

With all that said, let the green flag wave! Boogity Boogity Boogity!!!

rugby jerseys are made of a strong cotton/poly blend. They get dirty a lot (I was washing 25 jerseys 3 times a week for 2 years for my husband's club until a few weeks ago).

Dang, that's intense. Kinda like soccer jerseys?

Yeah, but muddier since they're on the ground during tackles, rucks and suck. Also if someone's offsides or hold the ball too long you can kick them so jerseys get dirty that way too.

They play in cooler weather which usually means Spring/Fall (rainy seasons).

Mushy - do you have a Dream Dinners in your area? That's how I "cook" and I LOVE it. Highly, highly, highly recommend it. The food is really tasty and easy to prepare at home after you've assembled it there.

oxeye - thanks but no we don't 🙁 There is something else like it but they seem so expensive. Especially just cooking for two but you are right. Maybe I'll suck it up and consider something like this!! 😀

Pre-med piss me off. Especially arrogant ones who try to tell me that osteopathic medicine isn't worth it and I won't be able to specialize. 😕 Where do they get there information?

😡 Probably OU.

Funny you mention that because I was just in the neurosurgery section reading on the DO Neurosurgery residency. Ask those kids how neurosurgery isn't "specialized"

one of my friends- former Wash U fellow- told me, and I do quote- "ah. They'll never let you in." What a sweetheart.

Sometimes I question if I like honesty as much as I say I do. 😡

"Let's Dish" is the same thing. There are a million of them out there. I did it a couple of times. But, so much of it went to waste. Even with itassembled, I still screwed it up at home! 😛 Some of the dishes were fabulous though.

Hint...don't use a ziploc to store tequila in the freezer like they told me to for one dish....um..yeah...spilled everywhere.

yeah I know a guy matching into it this year. He's being recruited by EVERYONE. Scored on top 99% on COMLEX and I think at least 95% on USMLE. Lucky bastard will have the LIFE doing what he loves and getting paid $150K in residency to do it

He took both COMPLEX and USMLE? :wow:

Neurosurgery? How will he have a life in that residency program? I guarantee you it will be a full 80 hours if they don't cheat with that law and do more. $150k a year for residency? 😕 I've never seen anything more than $55k.

Yeah a few people who know they are doing both MD and DO matches take both of them. More people take Step 1 then Step 2 because some know by their 4th yr if they are going to match in DO or do the MD match. With more and more MD matches accepting COMLEX, some people aren't taking step 2 USMLE.

Well, I didn't know this but apparently around the 3rd yr of neurosurg you start getting recruited. Some sign contracts early of like $100K a year until they graduate residency then get their $1.2 million or so a year after that. They are long term contracts but they are also $$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I just bought 3 books from B&N --> 3 for $10 What a bargain!!!! Love it!!!!

- Chasing Hepburn by Gus Lee
- Internal Bleeding: The Truth Behind America's Terrifying Epidemic of Medical Mistakes by Drs. Robert Wachter & Kaveh G. Shojania
- Faster than the Speed of Light: The Story of a Scientific Speculation by Joao Magueijo

There goes my MCAT study.....I hope it helps with Verbal, at least 😀

I think $1.2mm is on the very high side. Depends on need and location I suppose, too. My uncle is good friends with one in Manhattan. He's not spinal, I think the kind that actually go into your brain for tumors and such. Only about 200 of those kind in the US while about 2,000 of spinals. He's private practice, though.

I don't think I will do any kind of surgery if I do get into med school. If you damage your hands, you're done.

I 😍 cooking for other people. You and Durden (and Ana?) move here, and we'll FEAST. When I have time. 😉

Ooh, the score twins pigging out at the same skool.

No, T and Ana are moving to Ann Arbor. Durden? You coming up here? 😉

Just verified last week. Not too late to add AMCAS.

 Yeah, I don't need to have a cook-off against you because we're comparing Michigan and Wash U. HAHA! 😛

I fully support a cook off to win the matriculation of randomites. If only the med schools themselves would fight over us so passionately....

I think I will go to UWash instead, so I can also confuse everyone when they ask me where I go

Apparently this year's orientation shirts said something to the effect of "WashU: Not near Seattle"

As of right now I have no interest in surgery whatsoever.

$1.2 million annually might change my mind. I'm a ***** in more than just posting. :meanie:

$150k in residency???!!!!! Is that what DO residencies pay?

That is almost 4 times what we make in MD residencies!!

I know, it sounded strange to me, too...

I think we all dropped the ball on which residency to go to/want to go to.

Imagine how many computers with WoW installed you could afford with a salary like that. :wow:

It seems expensive, but it's about the same cost as buying frozen stuff at the store and it's WAY healthier. My husband and I go through 3-4 of the dinners per week - and we eat left overs for lunch and dinner a lot. I actually think it's cut down on our food bill a lot.

You should add Michigan, I think. Unfortunately I have zero knowledge about the medical school but some of the residents I know went here and have positive things to say. It has a good reputation, lots of money, gorgeous facilities, and a great town. I didn't apply here when I was applying to medical schools and I have no idea or recollection as to why not.

Oh, and a nice path HO. 😀

Hehe! Dermpaths make huge bucks (though it is an INCREDIBLY competitive fellowship) and I was trying to convince myself to be bought. But I just can't get excited about derm, alas. At least not yet. 😉

Yeah, seriously! Here I am slaving away for $42 k!! :meanie:

If I had that much money, I would probably spend all of it on buying WoW gold with real money so that my characters would be the best equipped imaginable.

I remember seeing some stat like the two highest paid people in the entire UC system were dermpaths making over $1 million a year, but I could be mistaken. Is the fellowship more competitive than simply matching in derm? I haven't really looked that far ahead, but I do have a general sense what are the competitive fellowships in different specialties.

What more convincing do I need?
