Random non-pathology and only peripherally related to pathology thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I spent a 12-hour day on plastics yesterday. Some neat stuff! One procedure (median nerve repair) involved a two-headed scope with a seat for me. 😀

Sure beat the hell out of any 7-hour day falling asleep in breast reduction clinic.

You are very observant. I have no idea how you knew this. Maybe an educated guess!
He would come by Dr. G's lab and talk to the four chicas about it (LL included).

Ah yes, he does get along quite well with them, you're right. Gay guys get so much play with hot chicks. The problem is, you actually have to be gay otherwise it turns them off.

I just caught up to and read all the new posts.

You f*ckers post pretty f*ckin' fast.

As did I. And now that I have caught up, I can go to bed.

p.s. We are still a couple thousand behind the EMers.
that won't last long. we have tripled our arsenal of posters with some of the newer people posting like madmen (and madwimmen).

Goodnight.

I'm too cranky to post. That means it's my bedtime.

I LOVE YOU NANA. MARRY ME.
You can have little half pharmacist/half ebil pathology babies.

OK WTF is up with this? I haven't played warcraft in half a year. I go on to bnet to play a game and I beat a level 20 and a level 32 player with relative ease. WTF?

I need a cookie. I'm hungry.

Wow - that baby would be a deadly combination! Unstoppable.

OK, fresh off my experience of changing my light bulbs at home now I have to change the lightbulb for the arrow in the microscope here and it is kind of hard because I can't find the slot to open up for the bulb.

Awww. That made me giggle. That kid looks more ebil than pharmacist. Then again, I can't see it's backside. Maybe there is a spatula in it's rear pocket. It just struck me that those horns had to hurt on the way out. :scared:

I am going to go on hiatus from SDN for a week, until finals are over.

Best of luck on finals! Finals blow.

Hiatus? But we will help you study!

Lava lamps are weird. There are two of them in here just puttering their way through life, gurgling and bubbling. These things are supposed to be relaxing?

I had a great lava lamp experience back in college. I even wrote a poem about it. Something about a fetus. I was not sober at the time. 🙄 Anyway.

Do you find them relaxing? I think frankly they're just silly. Anyone who is stressed out yet somehow calmed by a bubbling semi-solid probably needs some better way to relax.

Okay, I be planning the honeymoon. Good luck on dem tests.

My options so far:
3 weeks in Bali, Greece, Italy, English Midlands, Spain or Europe(Prague-Paris-Brugge).

The hot lab girl and I share an affliction: Pseudohyperthyroidism. 😍 We have the same symptoms and we commiserated on this today.

Idiot Militiagan drivers!! They cannot handle snow AT ALL.
Is it really still snowing there?

I had a half an hour lunch break from today's laryngectomy with jejunal harvesting (I went in at 9:30 and left at 5:30 and they were still going strong!) and I sat out in the sun. YummAy!

It is snowing - there isn't a ton on the ground but people are driving as if there is.

I am dreading the specimen that is going to show up on the counter for me to deal with tomorrow. It is potentially the entire side of someone's face from above the ear to the mandible. I am not sure if it is for a deeply invasive skin cancer or a parotid cancer.

It is only March. We will quite likely have one more dump of snow before spring shows up. 🙄

ENT = horrified fascination.

What I don't understand about resections like the one you describe is how come people don't walk around with half their face gone?

I took the specimen to the lab... but since this was Non-Tertiary-Referral Centre, no one was in the gross room because it was lunchtime 😀

It was very warm here today. I put the top on my convertible down as I drove home from school at 11 am.

After growing up in the north, I cannot resisit taunting those who still live there (such as my parents)

****! Is it really snowing outside? Damn, I'm gonna have to play slip and slide when I drive home tonight.

F*CK!

f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck f*ck!

My housemate has a lava lamp that is not turned on all the time, so I can see why! The purple blobs congeal into so many strings of poo - and sink. Although there is one persistent one that floats.

Floaters and sinkers. Just like poo! 😀

I think they're fascinating. In a "WTF is that stuff??" kinda way

You're just now figuring this out? I was shocked when I walked out of the hospital this morning. I was wearing my almost-spring clothing and was not prepared for a winter storm.

Goddamn. I haven't even eaten dinner today. I was gonna drive to a fast food joint on the way home. The drive home should be quite an adventure if it's really that bad outside.

Seriuosly - you're never up this early. Only us people caring for kids with autism and ADHD, I thought.

well, that's the nice thing about not being in med school anymore. no more of this, "why don't you get into the hospital between 6-7 am to preround". **** that ****. No more of that **** ever!

Yeah, I would have been in the hospital an hour ago if I were a third year student. But as a fourth year, I'm still sitting at home in my jammies with a furry cat on my lap and a cup of coffee.

Damn girl, you even gonna be makin' an appearance at the hospital today?

it's only a year...and you already got infernal medicine out of the way. psych and neuro should be a joke. peds, ob/gyn, and surg will have tougher schedules.

Umm, no. I went yesterday.

This may sound crazy, but I wish I could be on a rotation that required pre-rounding right now. This rotation is death - we see literally 1 patient per day. 1 patient, and a pediatrician, psychologist, PT, OT, speech therapy, social worker, parent advocate, parents, case manager, dietician, blah blah blah... How on earth can this be profitable? Yesterday I sat in an obervation room for 3 hours and watched them observe a kid to see if he had autism. He did not. 😡

It's the worst - in the hospital, although I'm busy, it makes the time go quickly. In a hospital setting, I can slink away to nap or read or surf the net... something. Here, I'm trapped with nowhere to go and nothing to do, excpet making small talk with female speech therapists who bear an uncomfortable resemblance to my middle school gym teacher :scared: And when it's a slow day in the hospital, the team will send me home early when they know I'm a future pathologist. Here, I am in a different clinic everyday, with new people - they want to keep me the whole time to pump me full of their subjective mumbo-jumbo. 3 more weeks... such an utter waste.

OK, I feel better now. This pinot noir will soothe my bitterness.

This is excellent. Best news I have heard all day!! 👍 Has anybody else had this same experience? I have fantasies of being all productive in the lab while I am in med school, and since I need sleep, TV, and SDN path, I need to leave the hospital early. 🙂

PS - Geddy, sorry your rotation sucks so much. That sounds incredibly boring. 😴
