So, inspired by dy's encouragement to find something fun to do to distract one's self from awaiting news from schools, not that I am, but yanno, I attempted to paint something. I never had the patience to learn these skills, but I love trying my hand anyway every couple years. I feel proud of this work as it was done in Acorn on my MacBook Pro simply using my track pad. It is entitled : Brown Dog; Duck Cloud

I don't know anything about horses, but can you stroke their peritoneal area like a cow to get them to pee?

Lol what is that face for?
Stroking cow peritoneums. That there's a known technique for making cows pee. That *that's* the technique for making cows pee.

Some things, I just didn't need to know. Although it is a pretty cool thing to know.

Just so you know, if you're feeling brave in the future, I think it only works on the females

I'll keep that in mind, but I'm pretty sure I'm never going to be in a situation where I have a female cow and need to make it pee.

Perineal area. I wouldn't recommend trying to rub the peritoneum 🤣

I love when my horse got drug tested a few years ago and the person trying to collect the urine wouldn't listen to me. She threw hay in his stall and then stood in there with him. Horses generally won't pee if you throw them hay at that moment because the hay is so exciting, and mine won't pee if you stare at him... I think she waited for a good thirty minutes before I took the hay out and told her to stand around the corner. He postured and went in about ten seconds after that. After that, I was always jealous of a friend of mine that clicker trained her pony to pee on command.

Anyone want to share some good recipes for cooking in small portions? I need some new things to try but hate having more than a meal or two of leftovers. Or really good recipes in general because I can always cut them down.

Chicken veggie salad. Chop up some leftover rotisserie chicken, veggies (I use cucumber / tomato / sugar snap peas), something salty / sour (pimento stuffed green olives or dill pickles), something leafy herby (cilantro or mint or even parsley). Sprinkle with brine from salty/sour and lemon juice. Optional add starch (couscous or quinoa or orzo, something small). Optional add olive oil. Also good vegan, with chickpeas instead of chicken.

If you have space, I suggest making freezer-friendly meals and freezing half (or more).

You can also just cut recipes in half. As long as you're not baking, it generally works fine. If you use allrecipes.com and click on servings (right below the printer symbol), you can change it to whatever you want and it will adjust all the amounts for you.

Anything that's a one-pot meal can probably be pared down easily. If you're not familiar with it already, I suggest shakshuka- it's a middle eastern dish of poached eggs in tomato sauce (often spicy, but doesn't have to be). There are a million recipes for it online and it's very easy to make. You can make it with as many or as few eggs as you want, and either cook the eggs in sauce on the stove or put the pan in the oven.

As for good recipes, I really like www.budgetbytes.com (really easy, cheap, yummy and usually healthy food with step-by-step photos), www.seriouseats.com (often more complicated but not always. very interesting if you're into the science of cooking or just like details), and www.minimalistbaker.com (all recipes are either one pot, 10 ingredients or fewer, or take fewer than 30 minutes to make). I have a bunch of recipes I've saved but I mostly browse Budget Bytes or google for what I want when I'm in search of something new.

Do they have like a "sometimes I burn microwave mac and cheese" level of difficulty? Cause that's me...

Saving all these links

I've been trying to be good and save recipes I like in OneNote. I'll try to post some links in the share a recipe thread tomorrow!

I don't just burn stuff, I set it on fire every so often. I think it's hereditary. My mom (who's an excellent cook) once put a frozen loaf of bread wrapped in foil in the oven, and it caught fire. Hooooowwwww????

But seriously, budget bytes is great and pretty hard to mess up.

I had a resident do it once because she forgot easy mac needs water.

At OkState there's a set of dorms that get fire alarms every other day because people forget to add water to their ramen/ mac n cheese, or they accidentally cook popcorn for 30 minutes instead of 3.

HOW. HOW HAVE THEY MADE IT THIS FAR IN LIFE.

They should. Like basic cooking without burning microwaveable food.

Not saying you have to be able to cook a 5 course dinner or anything hahahaha
I mainly meant cooking the boxed stuff on the stove. I mess it up.

Surprisingly I'm really good at grilling because it's temperature based.

My 73yo MIL destroyed a microwave by setting it to cook with nothing in it, thinking she was setting the timer. We got an induction cooktop because when there's no pan on it, you can't start anything on fire. I've had to turn the heat off under several pots that have boiled dry regardless. Some humans just live charmed lives.

I thought this said 73 yo MILF and I was very concerned.
