Random Stuffs

I just turned in my 2 weeks notice. :arghh: I haven't been formally accepted to school yet, but I didn't want to get stuck and have to leave without giving adequate notice. I spoke with my last LOR writer today and she's planning to get it in tomorrow, so hopefully I'll have official news soon! But ug, I am so sad to leave this job. Necropsy is the best.

Just saw this article online and thought you all would appreciate it :)
Doctor, Your Patient Is Waiting. It’s a Red Panda.
Less typing more medicine! There’s Red Panda lives at stake! These guys are too precious for this world.

I personally dislike how mushy things get in a crockpot but I do admit they are pretty easy. One or two days a month to prep things into ziplocks you freeze until you plop them in one morning is pretty easy. If you do, I highly recommend the liner things. Seems silly but they make cleanup wayyyyy easier.

I hate cooking. It takes up a lot of time and I just want something quick.

Should I get this guy for vet school?
i love my crock pot personally and love that certain things (like chicken and pork) get super tender and fall apart. I don't cook too many vegetable things in it because i like very few vegetables, so I don't have a big problem with things getting super mushy. My sister has two (whoops) instant pots (which i think is a v similar thing to that crockpot?) and she loves them.

but i do highly agree about the crock pot liners

I got a case of FOMO and bought it :)

I'm working on eating healthier, but I just hate cooking for like an hour every night and then doing dishes after on a school night. Crock pot would save me a lot of time.

My life would be perfect if I could just marry a man who loves to cook and clean.

I have one of those... and also a crock pot because we're long distance when I'm at school. The struggle is real!

My man loves cooking and is excellent at cleaning :) It's almost a bad thing because I've found that I've become pretty lazy :p
Okay I need y’all to chill. All of y’all have partners and it makes me feel lonely and sad.:cryi:

Parts of this are a rant/sad, parts are a rave, so I guess I'll put it here!

It's been a rollercoaster of emotions the past few weeks.

My grandma fell in the shower two weeks ago and passed away last weekend. Her funeral was last Tuesday.
Also two weeks ago my dad was in a motorcycle accident (a deer came up beside him and ran into him). Concussion, road rash, broken metacarpal, and five broken ribs but he seemed to be doing okay. Then...Last weekend he developed pleural effusion and spent the next 8 days in the hospital while they treated him. Yesterday he was released from the hospital and he said he already feels lots better.
I went home last Sunday to go to the funeral, see my dad, and help my mom with stuff.
Yesterday when I was riding with friends to the airport to fly home, my sister went into labor (she was at 39 weeks with her first kid).
I missed the baby by less than 24 hours, but I'm now an aunt! She needed an emergency C-section, but my sister and my nephew are both doing well as far as I have been told.

Having done both emergency medicine and anesthesia, I would have to say that anesthesia is hands down a more pleasant specialty. Keep in mind that you may work less hours in emergency medicine, but the bulk of those hours will be evening or night hours, weekends, and holidays. If your husband works a 9-5 M-F job, this could really cause havoc with family life. The other downside of emergency medicine is the lack of specialisation, you are a generalist dealing with everything that comes through the door, and honestly, most of it is a glorified urgent care. You have to have extremely broad knowledge of every specialty, and all of that comes with high liability with regards to appropriate treatment. Oftentimes it is difficult to get consultants to come in and further evaluate patients.

Anesthesiologists may have call, but the typical work week is early in the morning to mid afternoon, and as someone stated call is interspersed amongst a large number of people. Most anesthesiologists have the day after call off, and go home early pre call. Oftentimes they even come in late on the day of call. There is no paperwork to do at the end of the day. All holidays are days off (unless you are on call) again dispersed amongst the whole group. It is otherwise a 6:30-7:00A to 12:00-4:00P job, M-F. Rarely do you ever need to answer your pager. Also, it is much easier to feel that you have substantial knowledge of your specialty.

My only regret in going back to residency to do anesthesia was that I did not pick it as my specialty the first time around.

Curious to know @Crayola227 and @Melchizedek thoughts on the above
@Stagg737 probably agrees with my view that this looks genuine and village :ninja:

only downside is having to plan ahead, and more than that go to the grocery store with a mission, but plenty of people go by there anyway and crockpots are more amenable to kitchen sink cooking (everything but the kitchen sink....) where you just toss in what you have on hand

Overall I do think it can save a lot of time. In the summer if you're clever you can set the thing up outside to cook. I just soak my crockpots and it's fine for clean up.

Lawper keeps bringing this quote back because people keep tagging @Pippy instead of @PippyPony and that’s @pippy’s only post. I’ve seen it many times in tot chat
Though idk why the mod would have to appear village in the game.......

So I got a call today from a number with my area code but when I answered it was automated taking about a Melissa was calling me regarding my student loans saying I'm elgible for complete foregiveness on my student loans. Press 1 to continue and 2 to be removed from this list. I've only accepted my student loans through the school for VM1 and the entrance counselling but I haven't even finished my MPN yet. Sounds like a scam? Anyone else had this experience?

@vetmedhead I just wanted to say thank you for the tip you gave me earlier, about using oil and a q tip to help get little critters out of glue traps. We had a lizard get stuck this evening, and using the oil the little one came out no problem and sped off! Thank you!

As an aside, I really hate that these little creatures are getting stuck in the traps, but really don't want scorpions in my home with my dogs, we are going to work on sealing the garage better so hopefully it doesn't happen as often!

Yes all the time it's a scam

I just run an extension cord out of the house and plug the crockpot outside on the porch. The thing puts out enough heat while it's on inside to be a real issue in the summer.
So you’re trying to not heat up the house then, correct?
I’ve never had an issue with a crockpot even remotely warming my house, which is why I’m curious.

Glad it helped! This method is tried and true, as I can say with confidence that it has worked not only to get lizards out of traps but to get a glue trap off my cat's side after he rolled in one

Some days I heavily identify with the figure of Cassandra in Greek mythology.

If you decide not to pursue vet school (because of the debt or other reasons) what would you do? Can you be happy in another career? Have you considered other careers?

I come from a middle class family, I'm not a first generation college student, and my parents are doing okay financially. I decided to stop trying for vet school (after applying twice and not getting past the wait list). The debt was a big factor, but also realizing I might not get into the residency I wanted, that I wouldn't be happy with GP work as a backup plan . . . There were more reasons to stop trying than there were to continue. You'll have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons, and that's not something anyone else can decide for you.
Thank you for responding! I wasn’t able to login to my account for the longest ): but glad I Got it fixed ): I honestly wish there was a forum about people debating vet school or not. Where we can all go to share each other’s perspectives. It’s tough because people still tell me “if it’s what you want, go for it! Do what makes you happy.” But if we are thinking realistically....it seems like a life of financial stress when my current financial status is already stressful. I can really relate to “there were more reasons to stop trying than there we’re to continue.” Besides vet med, I am really passionate about wildlife, education, and conservation. I actually got my B.S. in ecology and evolutionary biology. My dream job out of college was to Be a park ranger then I realized that Los Angeles, CA doesn’t have much wildlife and therefore job openings. Then I fell in love with vet med and now I guess it’s time to think about other options.

I've worked in jobs that require scrubs for the past 5 years. I basically live in scrubs, pajamas, and sweaters. I just did some emergency thrift store and online sale shopping to get more jeans and t-shirts in my wardrobe so I have something to wear everyday.

Anyone have recommendations for things to do in Portland, ME?? The bf and I are doing a day trip next weekend. We're planning to hit a few breweries and try some food but would also be up for outdoor things. I've been there twice but it was like 8 years ago at this point, so I don't remember much other than the LL Bean store. Haha.
