I need help figuring out what to take to a potluck-style going away party dinner.
Things I know other people are bringing:
Smoked salmon
Fish dip
Falafel
Spinach and cheese ravioli
Eggplant parmesean
Fruit salad
Cheese tray or fondue
Bananas Foster
Vegan chocolate cake

I feel we need more sides? 3/10 people are vegetarian, no vegans. I mentioned I'd maybe bring a green salad and my residentmate said she was thinking about that. But then she said she was bringing some type of vegetable side so I don't know what she's doing. Any brilliant ideas? Doesn't have to be vegetarian since there are plenty of veggie options imo, but definitely open to whatever. I don't have much in the way of groceries at home...I'm a meat and frozen veggies type of person, haha. I was thinking maybe asparagus or something? Like half wrapped in proscuitto then baked for the meat eaters and the other half just oven roasted with lemon, garlic, maybe some parmesan?

Adding to the asparagus thing, I’ve seen it where you wrap it in bacon (like a half width strip so there’s gaps) and then in the gaps you wrap puff pastry. I assume you could sub prosciutto for the bacon

My family is also big fans of pepper boats
You take some bell peppers, cut them into thick slices (maybe 1-1.5”?), coat both sides in olive oil, sprinkle feta, Pune nuts, and basil (or put pesto on before the feta and pine nuts) and bake them. I think it might be 350 for like 10-15 minutes? You don’t want them so soft that they’re falling apart when you pick them up.

Roasted broccoli and baby potatoes with Parmesan is also another yummy idea

My mind has gone blank with other things my mom has made before.

Little bit of a rant/rave so I'm posting here. I have just been off of work for the past 18 days and it's been glorious. Tomorrow is my first day back and I'm dreading it. I don't know how anyone else hospitals are, but we're ridiculously busy during the summer and seeing posts on our FB group stating that the ER is crazy and there is a table case does not make me excited about going in tomorrow and then working overnights Friday and Saturday. However, yay paycheck?

Holy freaking heck. The last 12 hours of my life have been pure panic. I'm taking online animal science through NCState right now and my dog knocked over a coffee mug onto my laptop last night shattering my screen and we had our FINAL EXAM last night. I emailed the professor first thing this morning and sent him a picture of the damage and explained what happened but the syllabus says that "computer malfunctions must be documented before hand or else you will receive a 0". How can you document a computer error before hand? I am literally panicking. I will obviously get an F in the class if he does not allow me to take the exam today at a library or on my neighbors computer. It's one of those things where of course in hindsight I should have taken it earlier in the day yesterday so that I could run over to the library for back up before the testing period ends. But how could I have predicted this AND I work full time and am taking 21 credit hours. I just happened to have scheduled my time to take it after work last night leaving me no extra time for errors. I'm seriously dying right now.

I should also add that I would have emailed him about this late last night instead of this morning but for some reason I can't access my NCState stuff on my phone. So I had to wait until I could run over to my neighbors house and use their computer

Omg that's such a nightmare. Hopefully he's reasonable and still lets you take it.

So I went to the AVMA website to double-check the list of accredited international schools... and this happened. I assumed that this was due to uBlock Origin running in my browser. But, no, I disabled it and it still displays like this. Sometimes I feel super insecure about my own web design skills but then I come across stuff like this. From a professional company. Amazing.

Super random, but I thought that it was hilarious and had to share.

Out of curiosity, is the website displaying like this for anyone else?
What’s the link and I’ll look?

Does anyone here wear silicone bands in place of their engagement/wedding rings while working? I'm looking into it

Belatedly chiming in -- I have been able to wear my wedding band + engagement ring to work at my small animal GP job without any issues (assuming I'm not doing anything that requires scrubbing in or what have you, of course), but I plan to go the silicone band route for any wildlife or large animal related adventures. My now husband (btw all, I'm married now! Woo!) got silicone bands to wear while playing guitar. He got a pack of 4 from Walmart for like 5 bucks I think.

I ended up getting myself a silicone band and really like it! I don't feel it at all but it's still a nice sentiment to have.

Actually witnessed the unfortunate consequences of wearing nice things around animals...one of our new equine techs lost her ring in a bedded stall. As 4th year life typically goes, we students were tasked to sift through the entire stall to find it...we never did

Unless they're the brown ones that pump out choco milk, they are part of the problem.

Random question about lawn mowers: is it possible to over prime a lawn mower when trying to start it?

(Yes, seriously struggling with a lawn mower; my dad has yet to reply to my messages cause he works nights this cycle)

Probably.
I think it's flooding the engine. It's been too many years since I've mown a lawn tho

Not my boss, but one of the more senior USDA vets in my state asked me if I was interested in deploying to ''the incident" today. There's was a brief moment of panic when I was trying to figure out what was going on now, when I realized she just meant the Newcastle outbreak in L.A. Had me worried for minute there that some **** was about to be going down.

Well crap. It's a friend's lawn mower and it quit halfway through her backyard this afternoon. We'll see how it goes tomorrow morning. Push comes to shove, I'll meet with her landlady to see about it getting fixed.

I dunno. Having lived in LA for 10 years, some **** could very well be going down. lol

Of course everything today wants to do an extensive work up and send out lab work, because I'm only in on Tuesday and then gone until the following Thursday...

I swear the forces of nature or whatever it is knows when vets are going to be leaving on vacation and suddenly everyone wants to do everything thus making those last few days before vacation busy as hell. It is like the universe wants us to REALLY NEED that vacation.

What did y'all use to survive Physics? This class makes me feel like a total kumquat. Trying to figure out what supplemental workbooks/videos/ etc. will be the most helpful.

I didn’t use it for physics but for orgo I def used orgo for dummies (and the workbook that was available for orgo 1). Could check those books out

I can’t remeber if it was physics or gen chem, but one of those classes they gave us a formula sheet but everything was scrambled so it was useless because you wouldn’t have been able to find what you where looking for anyway if you didn’t already know them 🙄
