I just don't do sugar well in general so soda is kinda rare for me. I love sweets, but if I do more than 1 sweet item a day, I feel like crap.

It's a super balance right now between the ginger chews keeping me from feeling nauseous and making me feel ill in a different way.

Sandy, I immediately assumed fructose digestion as well, but I had a nutrition professor who had a friend that couldn't digest glucose and was on a high fructose diet, so we talked about all the natural varients of sugar metabolism and what the changed diets did to the "normal person" vs those with sugar digestion issues, so I might be brainwashed into thinking of sugar first when it comes to soda AND milk being the problem.

I think my dog has separation anxiety. My fiance is interviewing in Ohio and my dog has been restless and whining all day. He will not leave me alone. I did all the usuals- dog park, walk, poop walks to the backyard. I even gave him a peanut butter kong and a rawhide, and he is still pacing, looking out the window, and whining. It's really sad. And I feel kinda bad, because I don't even miss him as much as the dog does.

That sucks so much. 🙁 I hope you get some relief soon, DVMD.

Hate it when they can't find answers. don't overwork yourself. 🙁

I hope they figure it out for you DVMD.

So sorry, DVMD. I hope that you can find some relief and start feeling better before your vacation starts. 🙁

🙁 That's no fun. I had a similar experience in July and it turned out to be hepatitis due to mono. This was after I was required to take two pregnancy tests at urgent care despite insisting that I wasn't pregnant. I hope you get some answers, and a doctor that takes you seriously!

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Did you get any lab work done (e.g., blood panels) or other procedures/tests run? Feel free to pm me. Otherwise, I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks everyone. Yes, testing has been done, and technically something was found I'm just not convinced that something that has been there unchanged for 5 years is suddenly causing pain. Hopefully it goes away soon.

I don't understand why my cat has to make such a big deal about getting Revolution put on her. The drama that comes with the first of the month with her is so unnecessary.😡
Gandalf always goes all squinty after I put it on him, not sure if it's the smell or just that the liquid feeling is weird.

It's been a REALLY bad couple of days and isn't going to get much better. I'm so sick of everything going to crap. It's like when things finally start to be looking up, something happens to pull the rug right out from under my feet.

I just got a huge bug bite. It is December. It is 39 degrees out.

Oh, and it's on my forehead and I have an interview on Monday!

Can't tell if I'm all of a sudden feeling slightly crappy because I got the flu vaccine today or because I'm finally getting what's going around the hospital...

Yeah, I'm still drinking soda... but I WAS completely off of it for a bit. It's making me gain a lot of weight in my abdominal section though, which needs to stop. I've started running (as some of you may have seen from my Snaps of me in the woods by my house everyday 😛) and I'm hoping with going cold turkey over break that will get me off it for good and I can lose this darn abdominal fat.

Mix baking soda with water until it makes a paste and slap it on there. don't ask me how it works, but I swear by it.

Look, I love Lenovo and I've used ThinkPads since the end of high school/beginning of undergrad with very little complaint. But the amount of issues that I have had with this Yoga 260 in particular is kind of ridiculous.

You did the necessary troubleshooting. Bad digitizer panel I bet; RMA that thing.

Thanks for the tip! I put ice on right away, and that helped a lot. I still have a little bump, but it's not like my skin was flawless to begin with so it doesn't look out of place haha

Jury duty summons.
For the first week of the new year. Gross.

Federal or State/County?

We just had one of our vets go out on federal jury duty a bit ago .... it was for like 6 weeks! Or 8 weeks. Or something horrible like that. She ended up getting released early, I think, but geez....

County. I'm a little worried about it being so soon after the holidays- I foresee a big caseload from everything that got pushed back :=/ As a plus, it's only a 4 day week thanks to New Years being recognized on Monday. It's one of those "call in and we'll see if we need you things".
But the only dates they offered me for rescheduling were right smack in the middle of our busy season or other vets vacations. So that doesn't work any better.

I have been dealing with insurance troubles (actually service providers' and their inability to submit claims on time /headdesk/) In short, went to the ER many moons ago (twice in one day because the first trip made me INCREDIBLY SICK) and the providers sent the claim to the wrong insurance (school's insurance was confusing, had one company logo listed but you actually had to submit claims to the people in tiny fine print). I get a notice in September after, surprise surprise, the logo insurance company didn't have me on file. I've received countless notices, have been on the phone for many many hours updating my info into a black hole apparently, and have less than nil (like negative nil) to show for it. Anyone have advice on what I can do? I've been going at this for MONTHS to no avail. Do I need a lawyer? Which I can't afford cause, yanno, unemployed etc :smack: So much anger and frustration. Trying to keep it off my mind until I can deal with it after my two day NAVLE marathon come Monday but just got another bill and a snarky voicemail. I just can't :boom:

Is there somebody at the school you can ask? Like whichever department sets you up with this health insurance? Or the hospital billing department?

Honestly, I would think the school would be your best choice.

I would say that you need to talk to the billing department at the hospital with the ER. Make sure they have the right info. Maybe ask for an e-mail of an actual person so you have something in writing and someone to follow up with. If they want their money, they'll work it out. You shouldn't need a lawyer if it's just a matter of the claim not being submitted to the right insurance company.

I'm having problems with my insurance too, but it's because Mississippi doesn't like insurance companies that aren't in Mississippi and I'm definitely not the first person that can't get something covered. it's a real eye opener when you get a $430 bill from an urgent care visit:shrug:

One of my roommates keeps doing the most annoying things... like putting food down the garbage disposal but not turning it on, leaving her clothes in the dryer for like 4 days at a time, piling dishes in the sink, and leaving the water running. she will like the leave the water on in the shower 30 minutes before getting in. 3 of the 4 of us all share a bathroom, so it's just infuriating. I can wake up at 5:30 and still have to rush to make it to 8 am classes because she takes her sweet time in the bathroom. I can't even turn the heat up so I don't have to wear 3 layers to bed... today someone called her out on the water thing and of course, she got super defensive. sigh.

See I do all those things (except leaving the water running...that's just barbaric) but I live alone, so I can. It's so rude to do it when you live with other people!

I do most of these things but my roommate does too so we're basically a match made in heaven. It's almost comical how much I hate dishes and laundry given how compulsively I clean everything else.

Also, spending 1000000000 years in the bathroom is a no go. Luckily I shower at night but man I would fight somebody if they took their sweet time while I had to pee in the morning.

I think the bathroom thing really needs to be addressed, especially if you pay for water. Even if you don't pay for water, you should just nicely say "Hey, 3 of us need to use that bathroom, so if you could just do things that need to be done in there, and do everything else in your/another room (like make up and hair/anything other than using the toilet, showering, brushing teeth)." Showering, going to the bathroom & brushing your teeth shouldn't take more than an hour.

That time when your family and your in laws all tell you to abandon your husband in an airport parking lot to make a vet school interview flight, and then you do 😳. Seriously though, my flight to chicago was delayed due to weather in chicago, but it was just a layover spot for me so I'm asking the lady if I'll be able to meet my connecting flight, sure sure no problem. If it goes any later I'll let you know. The next I hear from her is her telling someone else we'll hear more by 6pm, which is when we were supposed to be arriving in Chicago 😡. I asked for a change in flight and they were like we should be able to get you there about 1pm tomorrow 😱. No, I have a frickin interview at 8am. I end up changing my flight to an airport over an hour away with two hours to go before take off. Family: you'll never make it! Me: screw that. Sprint through airport to get back to car, want to vomit from sprinting with luggage for at least half a mile, and get to the airport with 25 minutes before takeoff and they're already boarding, and have to make it through notoriously difficult security. Abandon said husband to deal with car, race through miraculously empty security run to gate and wait to see if husband makes it. Everyone makes it on the life saving flight:soexcited:. Only one problemishes left, we are now flying in to a different airport, but our reservation for a car was somewhere else. I call and get told it's fine they'll take car of it. Make it across the entire damn country to find that sure they have a car for over $300 for two days:boom:. Spend over an hour finding a resonably priced rental online and getting there and I still have to drive over an hour and a half to get to the frickin hotel because I came in at the wrong airport. I get to the hotel FINALLY at about 1:30am today. My interview is at 8am :uhno:. I'm scared to think what could happen on the way back.

Well at least the interview will be done when you have to go back home! Glad you made it though!

Good luck with your interview! I woke up the morning of the interview for my top choice school with a horrible stomach bug. I still went and got accepted, so there is hope!

Oh, wow. Sounds like you had quite the, erm, adventure yesterday. So happy to hear that you managed to make it in time, though! You've finished the interview by now, but I hope that it went well and wish you luck!

oh no, what happened?

Nothing yet, haha. 2/4 rejections are in, that's all. The others I applied to are either equally or even more competitive than the first 2, so hearing back positively from them is pretty unlikely.

I'm pretty okay with going to grad school, it's mostly just that I'll need to do a non-thesis based master's which will cost more money on top of [eventual] vet school.

I wouldn't rule it out yet! Different schools look for such different/very specific things in a lot of their applicants. Just because you didn't get accepted in to your first two schools doesn't mean you won't hear good things from the second two!

It doesn't hurt to get your ducks in a row for grad school though (I started getting my grad school applications together because it's making the waiting much less stressful haha)

My stomach started feeling gross about mid-day yesterday; pushed through. Started feeling really nasty last night, couldn't study, and sure enough I had a fever. I feel like total death this morning, burning up, and getting stabbed with nerve pain every 5 seconds. This is now the 4th time I've been sick this semester. It's starting to really irritate me.

I've never been sick so much in my life. I hope this isn't a regular thing for the entirety of vet school, because it's getting quite old already. Definitely don't need this with 2 exams this week and finals next week.

Apparently my apartment complex has someone come plow our parking lot with what basically looks like a golf cart with a plow attached on the front. I know this because they started scraping our parking lot at 550 am, and they just finished. Grumble. I definitely appreciate it because our parking lot is on a hill and I was dreading getting out of it, but now I'm up over an hour before I needed to be and exhausted.

If it makes you feel any better, the first time I applied I was rejected out right by my IS Auburn and accepted off the wait list at Cornell.
I ended up having a kind of quarter life crisis and took some more years to be sure it was what I wanted to do but it was a weird feeling. Don't lose hope. <3

My class has been told for the entire quarter that a lab practical will be open note (as it has been for years prior), and the instructor just changed it to closed note...3 days before the exam.

Can they do that? Does it say it's open note in the syllabus?

Talk to the administration asap. That's bs.

I will add to the sentiment of not giving up hope! Yes, have solid back up plan but remain positive. I applied to 6 schools last year and received 5/6 rejections before receiving an OOS acceptance so you just never know!

Our exams aren't described in our syllabus other than the points they're worth, but we have it in several emails saying open note, and it has always been open note in the previous classes. We have someone in my class with a law degree who's drafting up a letter to the dean, wish us luck :xf:

The instructor said he'd offer us a word bank to appease us, which is helpful, but it doesn't make up for the fact that we've spent weeks making guides to use during the exam and now have to memorize 8 weeks worth of pictures, jars of specimens, life cycles, etc. in three days. I get that other schools probably do it that way, but when you've spent 8 weeks preparing one way, and have to change it completely...

Agreed. Every school does things differently, but all produce competent vets. (Our anatomy II final was a group effort!)
I hope it works out in your favor. If the administration is half decent, they'll hear your concerns and do something. No need to cause undue stress, especially during finals.

Ouch, that sucks... Just an FYI, when my class had some complaints last year about a professor not keeping up with deadlines she'd put in her syllabus, we were told that the instructor could change the syllabus at will with no notification and it was totally acceptable.

Sorry to hear it, DVMD. Have you had any cross sectional imaging performed yet?
I've been going through something similar, not quite sure what it is. It is slowly getting better. I've been to my family physician, but his recommendations have actually made it worse (no knock on him, my body is just impossible sometimes). I have a history of ovarian cysts, and they can produce signs of an acute abdomen. That's what I am attributing my abdominal pain to. Unfortunately, short of performing an OHE, nothing much I can do as I am already on BC. Which sucks, because I've had to leave work early before because of it. Pain medication doesn't even touch the pain, not even IV morphine. It's a very unpleasant type of visceral pain.

They try to keep things relatively the same from year to year, I imagine for 'fairness.' They've put the kabosh on some changes already, so I don't see why they won't do the same for this.

This might seem like a no-brainer but have you had your gallbladder checked? I had crazy abdominal pain (so much so that I was walking hunched over and couldn't keep food down) when my stones were discovered. Been living 11 years without that sucker now and I'm a lot happier!

I also would have periodic episodes of intense abdominal pain that would last 4-6 hours and leave my intestines feeling like they had shards of glass in them for a couple days afterward. I had a bunch of GI tests done - upper endoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, CT enterography, upper GI series ... all normal. I switched primary care physicians and he referred me to a vascular neurologist because of the vertigo that would accompany my episodes. I would also get frequent headaches that neuro classified as low-grade migraines and thought my abdominal pain episodes were actually abdominal migraines. She put me on amitriptyline and told me to manage my stress better. I haven't had any 'abdominal migraines' in 5 years now and my headaches have decreased in frequency with the amitriptyline. I think exercise has been a lifesaver and also recognizing when I'm pushing too hard and need to take a step back to rest.

It really sucks when you're not getting answers, I've been there. Keep advocating for yourself!
