Why is there ALWAYS work drama? Just when things are nice and quiet something completely stupid happens.
My dachshund had surgery on his neck today to fenestrate the discs so they wouldn't cause anymore trouble in the future. I'm flying to Tennessee in the morning for my interview. It's killing me that I can't be there when my puppy comes home from the clinic tomorrow or the day after. 🙁
I hope Tennessee sees how dedicated I am to become a DVM!
Pilling Thomas (a.k.a. FAILcat) consists of opening the appropriate compartment, inverting the pill box over half a can of his food, and sticking the bowl in his cage... yet the ER I'm stuck boarding him at while I'm in Seattle is going to charge me an additional $6 per med. Per day. Cat is on seven medications. FML. 👎

Best of luck with the interview and the little man!![]()
Oh, and during the Great Western Interview Debacle, somebody evidently managed to steal my debit card number and has been using it to purchase pre-paid cell phones. 👎
That sucks, though as somebody who worked at a boarding facility I kind of understand. We always charged extra for meds too because we actually took the time with the individual animal to ensure that they consumed the meds. We wouldn't even allow our kennel techs to just mixed it in food; animals were either pill-popped or it was stuck in cheese, a "meat ball," peanut butter, etc. soon!
Thank you. 🙂
It's not Boost mobile **** is it? Because that happened to the husband, and after some research online, he found out that it's completely random. It was his debit card for his business account too, so he was highly displeased.
No problem... keep us posted! 🙂
Nope... it's Verizon Wireless and Page Plus. When I saw the first charge, I was hoping it might be an innocent mistake, but when the second materialized (with another company) I knew something was up.
I'd have had a coronary if it were a business account... especially if I had a lot of automatic payments set up that would have to be altered. Yuck.
That's ridiculous. My clinic charges an extra $3/day for boarders with meds, regardless of how many meds the boarder has. All of our kennel staff is trained to give meds properly- meatballs, pill pockets, cats get butter with pills, if pilling an animal, wash it down with a syringe of water, etc. We are not allowed to leave the animal until we have watched it consume the med.yet the ER I'm stuck boarding him at while I'm in Seattle is going to charge me an additional $6 per med. Am I allowed to say that I HATE Excel right now? 😡
I'm trying to put some of my thesis data into graphs... I want to compare results among snail species. It makes a PERFECT histogram for my first snail species. So I laid the data out exactly the same was as the first graph, and it creates a graph the opposite of what I want. So I try it again... and again... and again... and I fiddle with the options... and it won't work.
*headdesk*
Wish doing it by hand was still acceptable... like it was in junior high. 🙄
The thing is, while sometimes a bit cluttered, my apartment is CLEAN and I've not had problems with bugs of any kind for the almost year I've been here. I don't leave food/crumbs around (and certainly not in the bathroom?) and I take my trash out regularly.
So I came home to a large cockroach on my bathmat. Insects (and ESPECIALLY cockroaches) freak the absolute **** out of me and I don't know how but I killed it. I still have the heebyjeebies two hours later. Those two hours were spent cleaning the bathroom and kitchen, swiffering/vacuuming and doing every bit of laundry, including sheets and blankets to make myself feel cleaner somehow.

I called the leasing office and asked about a bug guy - she said he comes Fridays but had already gone for the day, so she made me an appointment for NEXT Friday. Needless to say, I will be jumping and having a heartattack at the sight of any and every dark colored lump of dog hair, bit of mulch or whatever happens to find itself on my carpet. UGH do I hatehatehate bugs.
just an update. didn't really know where to post, and figured this might be the most appropriate thread? so i've been talking to my mom throughout the week, and the state of affairs in japan is pretty mind boggling.
though my parents and relatives live in areas that were only minimally affected structurally by the earthquake/tsunami, and thank goodness their lives aren't in any real danger as of now, life is totally different from how it was just a week ago.
a few days ago, while skyping with my mom for about half an hour, there was an aftershock like every couple of minutes, and her cellphone and tv would alert for a bigger earthquake like every 10 min. their condo on the 6th floor was pretty much constantly swaying. every night since the 11th, they've had to jump out of bed at least a few times during the night because of a pretty major earthquake. poor cats are so traumatized that they freak out with the slightest shakes now (and before, even a magnitude 4-5 didn't affect them at all).
supplies are short, so there are long long lines at the gas station (where many are simply out) and grocery stores. there's very limited food, and the stores are out of things like rice, bread, instant foods, and milk. what little they have left is rationed out. pet food is also hard to come by. public transport, which is the only mode of transportation for most people (and people easily commute over an hour to begin with for school/work usually) is sketchy at best because of the rolling blackouts. the weather's been pretty chilly over there, so in order to accommodate heating, trains have been shut down at unexpected times to conserve energy. there's no gas whatsoever near my parents' place, so my dad had to go out and buy an electric bicycle to commute over 10 miles to work. apparently, he got a flat tire on his way to work today, and my mom had to go out and try to retrieve the bike. that whole ordeal just to get to work, which is pitch black from the rolling blackouts for all but 3-4 hrs of the work day. my grandparents are scheduled to be no heat, no power from 6:30 - 10:00 pm. my mom's planning on hanging the laundry to dry inside the house today juuuuust in case radiation starts floating by. who knows what's going on with that. there's a mass exodus of foreigners out of japan right now, so i hear the airport is chaotic. i dunno if any channels have come back yet, but as of a few days ago, tv pretty much shut down except for continuous news coverage.
my parents live in an area that was artificially made by filling in parts of the tokyo bay and packing it down, so the earthquake's caused the ground to not only crack in many places (like several feet long and few inches wide cracks that slide past each other and get wider and thinner as the ground moves) but also liquify. hopefully, this damage won't get much worse than the moderate flooding they've had with subsequent quakes in the near future.
the situation my family's in, as hard as it is to believe from how modern day japan operated a week ago, is very VERY fortunate. the hard hit tsunami areas are completely devastated, and aid for survivors is not looking good. even though a lot of people want to help, it's difficult to even send supplies out there. and if that wasn't bad enough, reality for a lot of these people are just setting in as they are slowly finding out just how many of their loved ones have died...
Edit: oops, just talked to my parents and realized that the info about food supplies are a couple days outdated. there are regions that are definitely still affected, but the greater tokyo area for the most part is starting to become better stocked so people aren't as worried there anymore about food shortages. even when it was a worry, people didn't get into fist fights or anything and were very good about sharing. and apparently, the second set of rolling blackouts for the day didn't occur in a lot of places because people really cooperated and voluntarily saved energy as best they could during the day. so there's a really great sense of community and pride that at least allows people to feel good about themselves and each other. and it's nice to hear about these things happening at all levels. when my mom went to the nearest bike shop to get that flat tire fixed, the man at the store told her it'll take about 20 min so she should go get some grocery shopping done next door. when he finished, he even went over and found my mom at the store to let her know that he was done.
I think I want to pay for some chest rads this week, just to see if anything really nasty is lurking in there...
My neighbors insist on revving up their bikes every time they take them out. They do it loud enough to set off car alarms. It's probably another thing contributing to my changed sleep habits since they don't care what time of night they do it.
2 minor rants: 1. Spring Break coupled with Daylight Savings Time has royally screwed up my sleep habits. I'm going to be sleep walking tomorrow.
Even though it was the right thing to do, I wish I could un-do it so that my friend wouldn't have to live with the consequences. Life is so murky sometimes....
More available on request...
Personally I am thinking of organizing a fundraiser at Penn to help out but still researching how best to do so. Any thoughts appreciated.
 That's so sad. Sorry you're going through such a tough situation. At least find comfort in the fact that you were really between a rock and a hard place, and either way, your choice would have hurt someone in the end. There was no way to win this one, it seems like.
Almost a year ago I got bit by a cat who was overdue on her rabies vaccine by like 4 years but was indoor only so I wasn't going to seek medical attention and do the whole rabies quarantine thing. However, the cat bit me again and this time it was on a joint so I wanted to get antibiotics just because I've heard horror stories about untreated cat bites. Anyway, so I went to the urgent care that our workman's comp requests we use. I had already scrubbed with chlorohexadine and iodine under hot water for what seemed like an eternity and had one of the doctors wrap the affected fingers so I would stop bleeding. So I spent maybe 10 minutes at the doctor's office, 7 of that was waiting, the other three were the doctor removing my bandages only to tell me it looks like I cleaned and bandaged it well and sent his nurse in to rebandage (not nearly as well, may I add). I had to recheck in 10 days. At that time, everything looked great so it was just in and out. Here's where it gets interesting...I started receiving bills from the urgent care clinic for $360. This was a workman's comp claim...I shouldn't be receiving bills at all. Plus WHY on Earth was it $360 to put on crappier bandage than I walked in with? So my office manager and I fought with the workman's comp company for a long time and finally we spoke to someone who said the claim number was one off and that's why it wasn't being processed correctly. She apologized and said it was taken care of now. That was like 3-4 months ago or so.
Saturday, I received a letter from a collections agency saying I've been sent to them for failure to pay my balance at the urgent care clinic....SERIOUSLY?! So my office manager called the workman's comp company again and spoke to someone else who said it looked like it was never resubmited after the info was changed. So now, when I'm trying to apply for loans so I can go to vet school, my once stellar credit has taken a hit because of something that isn't even my responsibility. I am beyond upset. There is my rant. It's supposed to be taken care of now...but we see how well that went before.
Word of advice, don't use The Hartford as your insurance company
Well, the health care here is mediocre most of the time, and I can come up with a dozen or so situations where it was an epic fail.

I was originally commenting on the "I had to wait 7 minutes for a doctor". When I read it, it sounded like the OP was mad for having to wait 7 minutes. Whether or not that was the intent, I don't know.
Was just saying that 7 minutes isn't a big deal.
Yes, it SUCKS that americans have to pay for health care. But when I lived there, my mom would flash her insurance card at the hospital people, I'd get my blood drawn, and I'd be in there for 20 minutes tops. Not 1-2 hours like it is here. And the results would be back within 24 hours... not 4-7 days like I've experienced here.
I don't know if you guys are experiencing the same thing down there, but because of doctor shortages, the wait times for a lot of health services, are inconvenient. Not as inconvenient as being denied health care... but it still sucks sometimes.
😱Out of pocket costs were over $10,000 without even an overnight stay!!!
