RANT HERE thread

The key here is that long term monitoring is not really going to be in jmo's vocabulary for those animals. 😉
stabilize it, and transfer as soon as it's no longer interesting 😉

That is why god invented RDVMs. To send us interesting cases and take them back again when they require long term management.
Yessss thank goodness! And I try very hard to refer my clients back to their veterinarians for management and follow up, so that they too can be a part of the care (and also earn business to keep their practices up - it was drilled into us to refer back if possible/wanted at my internship)

Had my first ER experience for chest pain. Everyone seems convinced it's muscle related because it began like a half hour working out, and it totally could be, but I've been working out fairly routinely/lifting for years and never had solely left sided chest pain that got worse with breathing in/bending over but not arm movement. Ecg supposedly showed changes suspicious for a RBBB and a possible rub/quiet murmur. They're also all super worried about my K+ of 3.2, which I'm fairly certain is due to the degree of sweating I did prior and didn't get a chance to correct with food and fluids yet. Supposed to follow up with my PCP tomorrow and maybe an echo so hopefully work will let me do that since I'm supposed to be in at 7am.

Happy thoughts your way! We have heart problems in the family here, so 😍 and :xf: your way!

Somewhat petty rant, but there are a couple people in my class that I just cannot stand. We don't really have any typical gunners that brag about grades (at least that I've noticed), but this one girl constantly interrupts the professors during class to ask questions, and she answers questions before anyone else has a chance to. I can tell it's even getting on our professors' nerves because she's always interrupting and trying to argue things, and most of her questions are hypothetical/not really relevant to what we're going over. I guess she's just really into learning the material, but she needs to tone it down several notches.

Then this other girl sits behind me and my friends in class, and she's just so LOUD. I literally can't study in the same room as her, because even if she's on the other side of the huge lab her voice carries so much. She's always interrupting our conversations and being nosy, and just seems to have no common sense or self-awareness. I think if I sat elsewhere in class she wouldn't bother me as much, but my friends don't mind her, so what can you do. I've heard the really intense people in vet school tend to calm down after a semester or two, but in the meantime having to listen to them just puts me on edge.

No one seems super concerned and I keep getting the vibe that they think it's all muscle related since I worked out which I supposeis possible and is making me feel like they think im crazy. However, I'm a super active person and have never had this issue before. Or if I did, it was very very fleeting. This was still happening when I went to bed at 3 am. It's gone today bit I've had very fleet discomfort for lack of a better word on occasion today. Echo scheduled for the 24th.

I had something exercise related that they originally thought was a heart problem happen in high school. Hopefully they see something just as benign with you.

We have one of those!

I got pulled out of class yesterday to talk to admins about an issue that my class is having with seats. It was only a review for our anatomy exam, so I guess it's not a huge deal, but I would have liked to go - and when the other class rep and I sent out a survey to try and get a handle on what is going on/how we're going to tackle it, most of them came back with nasty comments directed at me in particular. I don't really care about that, but a lot of what people were saying about me was just not true. I understand people are stressed out, but sometimes, it's really frustrating when we're just trying to do our jobs well and get by academically.

I keep telling myself that this is great practice for the rest of my career, since I want to go into academia so will certainly have to deal with issues like this again.

So we're not the only ones with seat issues? :hilarious: luckily that has settled down for us

Got stuck in traffic and was running late, so I started rushing to get to my first class on time (that teacher has a strict closed-door policy, if you're late you can't come in). Got stopped by cop, verbal warning.....once I arrived class had already started so I was not only locked out of the classroom but out of the entire building (I don't have a student ID card right now, so I rely on classmates to open the door for me). Had no choice but to sit out in my car for 45 minutes until the break time before next class. Feel like a fool. On the bright side the weather is finally awesomely cool and not-90-degrees today.

People were VERY PARTICULAR about their seating arrangements in my class too. Not going to class much meant that I couldn't be that picky about the whole thing though.

What do you guys mean when you say seat problems? I'm curious. People wanting the same spot and aren't able to?
Yeah, basically, people establishing their seats (or thinking they have established them) and then other people taking those seats and causing grumpiness.

We have one of those!

We have a couple of those, too... I'm all about engaging with the material, but if it starts to get excessive and impede our ability to get through the material we need to get through in a given lecture... :rage:

My class has had zero seat drama that I am aware of, which has been fabulous and a pleasant surprise.

Yeah, basically, people establishing their seats (or thinking they have established them) and then other people taking those seats and causing grumpiness.
We have assigned seats here (we picked over orientation), and that has pros and cons but it's definitely prevented seat disputes, which is good.

As long as I can be at least fairly close to the front of the room, I'm pretty laid-back about the whole seat thing. I have very poor eyesight (even with glasses) and just want to make sure that I can actually read the material on the PowerPoints!

I don't think we've had any disputes over seats here... at least none that I can remember. Generally everybody picks the same spot everyday, so it's basically a non-issue.

That "Oh, ****!" moment during surgery when you're not quite sure if you will be able to close the big gaping hole you've made from removing a giant mass. Luckily, I got it to close nicely.

Yeah, basically, people establishing their seats (or thinking they have established them) and then other people taking those seats and causing grumpiness.

My understanding of the issues within my class is that a few people need certain seats for medical/maybe disability? reasons, but don't want to make those public and so when the seat they prefer is taken, it becomes a bigger issue than just "sit somewhere else." The other rep and I got a little blindsided by this - the people involved went over our heads directly to admin - so we've been brainstorming some solutions, but it's going to require flexibility from our class. Flexibility seems to be in short supply with our biochem & anatomy exams approaching. But we'll figure it out. A large part of it is getting people to communicate (with us as reps, with each other, etc.).

Me: I need to change my automatic payment bank account.
Student Loans: It takes 10 days. You should manually pay it this month.
Me: Okay. *pays it*
Student Loans: J/k, thanks for the extra payment! *takes out my manual payment and my automatic payment*
Me:...I needed that extra $315....

@orca2011 ... are you feeling better? Just checking in to see how you're doing.

When people don't get that breeds listed in dog bite statistics can be wildly inaccurate because visual breed identification isn't worth **** +pissed+
Yup. Cause if it scared you, it must have been a Pibble, right?:yeahright:

I had a lady tell me how terrified she was of pit bulls because she was bit twice as a child. When she descibed the dogs, one was likely a chihuahua and the other a northern breed like a husky. She said, "oh. Well I knew your dog was a pit because he was brindle."🙄 My dog was a mastiff mix. I then explained that everything from Chihuahuas to Corgies to Great Danes can come in brindle.

Her take away was apparently that she can recognize a pit by whether or not it is aggressive. So she'll just be terrified of all dogs (except her golden that she had running loose getting in everyone's face and stealing food from little kids at the playground).🙄😡

Makes me so mad.

I was looking over a couple studies that did surveys for visual breed identification and compared their results to DNA tests on the dogs in question. So many dogs were identified as one of the pit bull breeds and didn't have any of those breeds in their DNA tests - especially mixes with boxer or mastiff. And several that did have a pit bull breed (even as much as 25%) and weren't visually identified as such. And these were surveys of professionals and people in animal-related fields, so just imagine how accurate the general public is.

I've been doing a lot of research on dog bites and breed specific legislation today. It has given me the angers :punch::punch::punch:

I have a friend who's dog is an obvious hound-y type cross. Long skinny legs/body, narrow head, tick markings, hound mannerisms and sounds. She freaked out because "OMG obvs she's a pitbull. I only adopt pitbulls and she was going to be killed in the shelter"

Yeah, okay.

Brink of having to drop out. Will be a ****ing miracle if I can hold on. Thank you life for saving up to shaft me right when school started.

So sorry v2vm 🙁. Have you contacted your professors and associate dean and told them what is going on? I'm sure they could work with you or give you options.

Maybe dropping out was the wrong word. I meant having to leave the program for reasons out of my control.

I really don't want to take another year off. I really like my class. I'm now $45k+ in the hole with loans for this semester. I'm trying everything right now and the school is working with me. I had my wheelchair cushion modified but the modification wrecked my body in more places. I literally cannot even sit in my wheelchair because it is injuring me. I'm stuck in bed and it makes me feel so helpless.

On Wednesday I go back to the wheelchair cushion place to get "evaluated" for their really hardcore one but that's just the evaluation. I called them and told them to just do the mold and I'll take out more loans to pay the listing price of $10,000 if I have to. I purchased a blow up mattress and I might just put it in the classroom just so I can go to class.

Trying to watch the lectures from home but it's very hard because I just start nodding out and falling asleep because I'm laying down and it's quiet around me. Not to mention all the dissection and lab I'm missing. It's just the worst timing with all of this, it really is.

I'm passing my classes right now, honesty don't know how I'm doing it with all of this. The next Anatomy exam is Thursday. If I can just pass I'll be happy, I don't care at all if I get a 69.5%. Trying to hold on for dear life here.

I know of people who had to delay a year from CSU, so it is not unheard of. I know the decision of what to do is huge.

Sorry you are in this situation.🙁

It would suck to take time off, but you need to do what's best for you. I hope you're able to start feeling better soon. 🙁
