You know what's a really nice way to spend your summer?

Doing dick-all nothing.

Maybe working PT for some $$.

You don't HAVE to externship. If you want a surgery residency, maybe you should. If you are looking for GP, do not feel obligated to do a damn thing you don't want to. It won't matter to employers. It just looks nice on a resume.

Outside of my required EMS, this is exactly what I did every summer. Looking back, maybe I wish I had some more surgery experience but I really, really enjoyed having the mental break all summer long.

See I'm confused about EMS. I don't have a lot of money saved up and being on the other side of the ocean is daunting without making money somehow.

Apparently my confirmation culture came back negative this morning, so it's not pertussis. But that means we don't know what it is now, awesome.

I know right?

In my head I'm really annoyed they wouldn't take an xray now.

Got our schedule for the spring semester. TWO EXAMS the day after spring break. That is so not cool. Not cool at all.

Two of my classes have all their exams on the same day for the semester. And I have a cell bio test on my birthday. Great last semester.

Made sweet potato bison shepherd's pie....dropped it on the kitchen floor. My internship hasn't made me cry yet but this might.
I would definitely cry and probably eat it off the floor because I have no shame and an empty stomach.

Holy effing hell, the amount of pain I'm in right now. It is like every bone in my body has a vice grip on it. I think it is likely related to the not sleeping well, but really, it needs to stop.

that sucks. Other than dehydration, I rarely have issues. I feel for people who have such bad luck with that crap.

Not a rant yet, but might turn into one tomorrow, more so preemptive nervousness. Travel back to school tomorrow into a supposedly massive ice storm... and I'm praying I don't get stranded in a random airport with my kitty because of weather. Kitten is also still having a little bit of diarrhea. Vet gave us meds, which are helping, and hopefully by tomorrow there will be significant improvement. She is totally fine otherwise, but I don't even know what I would do if she starting having diarrhea on the plane. Then once I get there I have to drive a rental car 70 miles through the ice storm. This travel adventure might take five years off my life from stress. :dead:

I hope your kitty's doing better tomorrow!
drive slow and safe and stop if you need to!

my grandma apparently always said "better to be a minute late than early to the pearly gate"

@alohacat319, I hope your ailing kitten feels better. Fortunately, I know your kitten is in good hands because she is with you. Agree with @SkiOtter, please pull over and stop driving if you need to take a break, stay safe, get some rest, or just to check on your cat. You and your kitten have a lot of life ahead to share together; it's okay to take your time on the road. Stay well, both of you.

If all else fails and literally goes to hell, let me know. The roads should be better by Sunday (and driving in Chicago winters taught me how to drive in the ice& snow).

A few kids in my class got stuck and couldn't make it back in time because travel conditions were so rough. The professors were super understanding. I'm sure your professors won't mind if you are late or miss a day because of an ice storm. Don't stress too much!!! Stay safe!

Yeah I missed my first full week of classes due to various flight cancellations/delays. It was ridiculous, finally made it back at 9:30pm last night! Very lucky my professors were super accommodating for me, I missed the whole week of communications labs, which I probably really needed haha.

Rant of the day for me . So my roommate went vegan for her health reasons, not because of animal welfare/activism. She's been suffering from depression and narcolepsy on top of lactose intolerance. It was fine at first with a few bumps like her mentioning peta and joking occasionally on me still eating meat. Now it's officially driving me crazy with her watching multiple vegan YouTube videos almost everyday when downstairs and what feels like her mocking me about meat now about how vegan is soooo much better and I'm eating carcinogens. I've tried to talk but she seems a little more distant now. Next time for sure I'll call out the mocking. I went into this with an open mind and supporting her but now I think it's the thing distancing us.

Yikes. I don't care what you do/eat, but getting snooty and rude about it is a guaranteed way to make me hate your guts. This transformation is probably why everybody hates vegans even though I know tons of very chill vegans who are not like this.

Also re:carcinogens lol. Everything gives you cancer nowadays. I could give you some very passive aggressive advice but I think things work better when you're clear and honest with her. Tell her it's rude and hurtful when she dismisses your dietary choices like that and you won't stand for her needling or mockery, as it makes for an uncomfortable and horrible home environment.

But also, if you want to be really passive aggressive, reset the router every time she turns on one of those vegan videos lol.

I'm of the opinion that many people can't do a vegan diet right enough to get the correct nutrients from their food (it's possible but pretty difficult and most don't do the research). so she might think it makes her "healthier" but it's a diet like any other diet. You can be a "junk food" vegan just like you eat a lot of junk food and meat.

Pssssh. I have a vegan friend that has literally just replaced the meat part of her diet with carbohydrate. Superrrrrr healthy😵

I'm not that tech savy to modify router to do something like that. She waschill at first but is moving towards annoying. We talked about the annoying ones when she first moved to the diet and said she didn't like how they handled it either. I think she's unknowingly doing this as well. I'm taking everything with a grain of salt about carcinogens and what not because I've seen the other side of the industry due to all the farms we have at school plus the meat labs. Enough classes that I know that she isn't quite true.

She's done a lot of research about it and she isn't a junk food vegan thankfully. She's very smart about everything and has to get blood work regularly enough that they'll catch any deficiencies soon enough. She's helped me start eating healthier but I'm not giving up anything, just making better choices. It's just the mocking that's getting to me and the rant threat was the perfect place to get it all out of my system:sorry:

Officially finally home, thanks for asking! It was a bit scary at times, and it took me nearly two hours to make it the 70 miles, but we made it in one piece! There actually wasn't that much ice, but the rain was coming down so hard it was impossible to see anything. I don't think I have been that intensely focused on driving since I was 15 with my learners permit. No airplane diarrhea though, and she slept through both flights and the drive like a perfect kitten, and is now playing happily around the apartment.

Oh good. I was going to ask about the ice, any spots in particular where you were like "OH F***!" ? I'm heading back tomorrow morning, so hopefully it'll start to melt by then

One of the bridges on the 35 before you turn off on the 51 was definitely a FML moment, then there was one spot on the 51 that was bad too, but for the most part it wasn't bad. I just went a bit below the speed limit though because it definitely was noticeably more sketchy the faster I went.

Okay perfect. Thanks aloha! Glad you got back safely!

Went out of my way the other day the help out a client, which involved dropping off medication at their house on my unpaid personal time in my vehicle with my gas money. Dropped it off, felt good about being able to help someone, and happy that I was able to make a positive impact on the customer service side of our clinic.

Fast forward to today when said client came in screaming that I had never shown up, despite me physically handing medication to them and having the old medication handed back. Flat out lying. Claimed they had never asked me to drop it off and that I had insisted on doing so because otherwise I wouldn't have given them the medication. My coworkers threw me under the bus and apologized to said client, leaving some harsh messages on my phone to made a show of it for the client. Messages I received upon arriving at school and checking my phone. Once I called back and we got everything sorted, they apologized, but that still meant I had to go into work (again unpaid) and spend 45 minutes there trying to get in touch with the client since I was the one that was at their house.

Best thing is that if I hadn't dropped off the medication then, the owner wouldn't have gotten the medication until today anyway. So all of that bs for the exact same result.

I hate people sometimes. Doesn't help that the other person I went out of my way to help that day (not work related) was completely ungrateful and then caused even more work for me yesterday because they decided they wanted me to undo what I did for them.

Ugh I'm sorry that sounds awful 😕 just try and stay positive that you were being an awesome person and that client was clearly being a butthead.

Hearing other people's work stories is crazy to me. The only times I ever went to a "client's" house it was to confiscate animals and we always brought police officers with, so this story is complete foreign territory to me lol.

That being said, I'm sorry that person is rude/ungrateful and I'm sorry your coworkers completely tossed you under the bus. People don't always appreciate you going out of your way for them the way they should and they can often be frighteningly angry about it too. In the future I would probably try to avoid doing work things on your own time and if your bosses/coworkers/clients ask you to do something like that I would tell them it didn't work well this time and you should bare minimum be compensated for the extra work.

Also, don't touch that client with a twenty foot pole. They sound cray haha

This is what I don't miss about working in a clinic. 🙁 Right before I left my old job, I had a similar experience with someone who decided she didn't want us to divide her dog's carprofen tablets, after all, because we 'didn't divide them in equal halves.' 🙄 She called the boss lady to complain and was upset that we did it in the first place, even though, you know, that's what she wanted . . . You just can't help some people. Sorry you're dealing with this. You should ask your manager about getting paid for the time you spent at work today. I don't think there's a reason you shouldn't be compensated for that time.

Also this exact situation is probably why delivery companies often make people sign for packages. If anybody has to deliver meds in the future making clients sign that they received them is probably a good policy.

Probably a good lesson in here somewhere. Basically I can't think of a single medication an animal will die overnight without, which means they can come pick it up the next day. Not only that but we tell clients repetitively to call in prescriptions at least 48 hours before they are out. Boils down to "your lack of planning is not an emergency on my part." Maybe I'm just a bitch but clients can pick up their own pets meds....I'm a vet, not a delivery service.

if they are expecting you to do something for the clinic, they are required to pay you for that time. Or they can wait and handle it themselves. this kind of thing is why we have lawyers that specialize in employment laws
The thing is, I haven't been directly ordered to do anything.
It was my offer and my choice to drop off the medication. I do not expect remuneration for that, since it had nothing to do with my job at the clinic.

I dropped by to bring in the medication the client had given me, to prove that I had actually gone there and given it to them. Well I was there, it just made sense for me to call the owner since they would have a much harder time bsing me directly. Went directly to voicemail, so I left a message and stayed for another 30 minutes to see if they would call back. Mainly because I want this dealt with ASAP so I'm not dealing with it all week over texts with my coworkers since I don't work again until the weekend. Could I have in theory just left it for my coworkers to deal with? Yes. However that would have made the situation more messy, since I was the only one working that day and the only one who knew exactly what happened. It would have taken longer to deal with, been messier, and would have caused some friction between my coworkers and I because they would have been grumpy about having to try and fix a situation they didn't know much about.

Again, no one ordered me to stay, so I really can't go demanding pay. I just wanted the situation dealt with, and the easiest way was just to do it myself. I'm just grumpy that my moral obligation to do that took time away from my study time.

(Never heard back from the owner so I'll probably be dealing with this all week anyway)
