Hey. You're young(er) and you did it slightly more recently than me. And you do all that weird lab-animal stuff where you probably know about all those weird things. You remembered 'scolex' after all. 🙂

You know how we all remember one-off weird stuff that we have no reason to remember? I remember Eimeria truncata, the goose parasite. No idea why.
Only reason I still know weird words like "scolex" is because I'm basically back in vet school but learning all about the monkey and rodent diseases we never learned (and I just had to teach a seminar on mouse parasites). Hooray for residency!

(It's not really as bad as vet school but it is somewhat similar at times)

You guys don't talk about treatments in your parasit class?? Weird...
We talked about it a bit (especially for heartworm) but a lot of it was in pharm

Which...will probably be changing with new curriculum now that I think about it.

I don't really recall it being a big part of our parasitology class. @kcoughli @supershorty ... I know you guys have the blended "Infectious Diseases" classest now, but for the parasit portion, did they talk about treatment, mechanism of action for the treatments, etc.? Or did they leave it for pharm classes?

Treatment itself was kind of mentioned with some of the parasites, but it was mostly left for either pharm or large/small animal medicine.

I dunno if parasit is taught any better than when I went through, but holy eye-glazing. Can you MAKE it any worse than doing each little version of the same parasite one by one with the same exact slides except for that one host that's different, all delivered in a monotone......

Easily one of the worst-taught classes we had.

Of the multitude of instructors we had for Agents of Disease, our parasit professor was by far the best one! But I think she's pretty new and not sure she's who taught you or @kcoughli .

Well, good to know they improved it. Yeah, no, I think kcoughli and I had the same one. Was ......... nearing retirement, and male.

I adore our parasitologists 😍
I love ours too! The new guy they hired this past fall is super hipster-y and always wears bowties and curls his mustache. I miss parasit, I can see how it would be really dry with a bad professor, but they made it enjoyable (although still really hard).

Yup! He is great. He is coming from our program and we also have Dr. Little, who is simply fantastic. 🙂

I know exactly who you are talking about! Hah.

That would just be the BEST.

"Look, Dudez! It says morphine! Let's get high!"

<Barf barf barf barf>

As an aside, I'm always surprised by how many *vets* think apomorphine binds opioid receptors. Sigh.

At my previous job, our apomorphine was directly next to our Cortrisyn bottle and looked identical. There may or may not have been a couple times where an ACTH stim dog started barfing...thankfully none of mine but I was always super careful to double check the labels

I blame all of you for my "dream" last night. I had a dream that I had tapeworms and when I went to get medication, they kept trying to give me pyrantel and I had to keep yelling at them that pyrantel won't work and I need fenbendazole or praziquantel.
What a vivid dream!!

I sprained my ankle pretty badly a little over 3 weeks ago, and I've been in a boot ever since. I went to the doctor because I'm kinda sick and I was hoping that I could get a script for PT while I was there... instead she took one look at my ankle and ordered MRIs of foot and ankle and an ortho consult, then warned me that they might want to put a cast on it. Harrumph. I mean, it is still remarkable swollen and it hurts, but on the other hand I need to be able to go running and vent my stress.

Arm curls or other upper body workout possible in a boot? Sorry, being injured sucks.

I've been doing some exercise, but nothing even comes close to the catharsis of trail running for me. I need to be outside and in motion to enjoy it, everything else I just force myself to do for the sake of the trail running.

Probably ortho won't do anything and it'll just be a longer wait to start rehabbing it (which actually has some pretty legitimate health consequences bc I rely on that conditioning to counter a medical condition I have, but what can you do other than pray that IV saline becomes more available by the time it gets hot), but if I do have to get a cast, idek. How does anyone even put pants on over those things? I can barely get pants over my standard everyday plastic braces!

You can wear loose sweat pants or scrub pants in a larger size.

If you would like to be trendy and fashionable, you can be the envy of your medical school!

Hope you feel better! 🙂

I love it! That with my neon orange muppet-fur (children's) northface and a white coat would be quite the look, don't you think?

You could rock some yoga pants 😛
Or get some of those basketball pants that have snap up sides? Sweatpants and scrub pants might work if they have enough stretch but idk

And don’t overdo it on your ankle!! Let it heal! I know that’s not what you want to hear, but it is important to let it heal so it actually gets better sooner versus repeatedly stressing it and delaying the healing 🙁

Ha warm-ups! Omg I've never worn those. They always seemed sketchy to me back when I did organized athletics and might've had some. I mean, nobody needs to get their pants off that fast!

And yeah. I'm following doctor's orders and trying to be really careful (like when I almost fell down the stairs about a week after I injured it, I managed to clock myself in the chin and hit my arm on something and nearly slide down a full flight of stairs, but my injured ankle stayed up and out of the way and in the proper position!). I need it to heal right and everything but I'm feeling impatient. I've already waited soooo loooooong already. Sigh.

When I was in a cast, I wore sweatpants or stretchy shorts at home/out and about. Luckily (and sometimes unluckily) my school uniform bottoms were skirts so that worked out.

Also your stairs story reminds me about the time I had a cast on my left leg for a broken ankle, and was trying to hobble down the stairs and slid down the whole flight. I tried to keep my injured leg up, succeeded, and ended up taking out half of the posts on the bottom railing of my parents' stairs with the cast. A few bruises and a lot of getting screamed at, but I started going down the stairs on my butt after that...:smack:

Haha yeah they are weird and I agree no one needs to get their pants off that fast, but they could be useful for a cast if nothing else fits
I personally wore yoga pants when I had my cast but not sure if you’re willing to rock that look or not 😛

Considering that my go-to for days I'm expected to dress up involves wearing a nice pair of hiking pants (from the women's section since I am smol and short-waisted) and hoping no one notices that they're not actually dressy, I would totally rock some yoga pants. I wore yoga pants for the MCAT because they were free on the sidewalk and had no pockets to turn inside out every time I walked back into the room, and that turned out great!

Some semi-megachurch in my hometown is (was) advertising an event for girls that was essentially conversion therapy. "Through biblical counsel, we will help your girl..." Pastor even referred to it as conversion therapy.

I hate to say that I'm not even surprised given the other BS the people in my area say and believe.

My SO and I were driving to Chipotle and passed some dude holding up a sign that said "ABORTION IS MURDER" in 25 degree weather. We just turned to each other and burst out laughing as we continued driving. I can't wait to get out of the Midwest ahhhh

While I appreciate the snow being shoveled, I think my complex having their snowblowers and shovelers out at 2AM is a little ridiculous. On top of that, they were hollering at each other on everyone's porches and right outside our bedroom windows. Not only was it frightening to wake up to several male voices right outside my window, but my dog spent the next hour loudly defending her turf :hungover:

Ugh, I would definitely complain to your landlord!

That’s really annoying. I get that middle of the night is really the best time to do it, but have a little damn decency and don’t be yelling to each other when you’re outside peoples homes at 2 am. I’d definitely complain to your complex’s management because I’m sure management doesn’t know they’re out there yelling when they’re working. Doubt there’s anything that would be done about the time, but at least having them not be yelling would be more bearable.

I definitely will let them know, but I'm pretty sure they contract out with a landscaping company. Pretty sure they won't actually talk to said landscaping company, as this is the same complex that didn't feel it was relevant to let me know they had D-con behind my washer/dryer when they knew I had cats....they probably have no control over when the shovelers come now that I think about it.

I doubt they have control over when they come out but they might at least mention that they’re being too loud with them yelling late at night. Maybe they’ll quiet down some?

Spoken like someone who has never been tossed into the side of a barn by a parlor queen. 🙂 🙂
But I have. I’ll take that over face bites, that’s just me 😉 I’ve been smashed quite well and I’d still take the cows.

Sent the email. Hopefully they'll talk to them seeing as how I'm getting snow overnight and this weekend.

I once got crotch kicked by a cow . It was a very intentional, direct hit. Looking back, it was funny because she just lifted her leg and flicked her hoof. At the time, not so funny because I had a hoof-shaped **** print on my coveralls and it also hurt...

Also was palpated once and the cow started swinging and I couldn't get out fast enough. Thought I was going to break an arm.

Edit: Was palpating*.....

My soon-to-be in-laws keep talking about getting Highland cows, I really hope it actually happens. 😍 Although they'll probably want free vet care from me...
I want to start my own highland herd when I get out of school along with Dutch belties and my sheep herd of black nose vilias.. 🙂

Ask them how much they’ll be contributing to your loan payments if they want free vet care

The fact that there is only 7-8 microwaves for over 1000 students is really getting frustrating. We share our vet school with undergrads, and all of us vet students have lunch at the same time along with most of the undergrads so the lines are always ridiculously long.

It's snowing pretty badly at Cornell and the heat in my lab is on low (I can't change it and it fluctuates alllll the time) so I'm freezing. And I'm trying not to stress/think at all about not knowing if I'm going to vet school after my 2nd time applying. I just want to go home and curl up with my kitties. 🙁

Is it one of those kinds that has a sensor that you can put a wet paper towel or a cold string cheese stick over to trick it
