Going sailing this weekend :clap: (not that I'm excited or anything that I found a swimsuit that fits me too (in my clothes)...so no swimsuit shopping was needed)
 
Going to continue my string of nights this weekend!
I found scrubs that fit me too.

In a few weeks, I'm going to an island to get away from it all for a weekend.
 
Trauma call tomorrow 😱. 23 days left of trauma for this year. Not that I'm counting. I mean who would count days left that they have to be to work at 5am?

Hope all is well with everybody else.
 
Back from my weekend. Got rained out yesterday, but still exhausted. Time for a nap then getting to business on a few things...like updating the driver's license to the current address might be a good idea.

It's overrated. Unless you had to change your tags on your car, I would say don't bother until the first one expires (or is close to doing so). That way you can get them both out of the way on that day.
Also, don't change one without the other, cause that's a ticket in some places (secondary offense only though).

I kind of had to change it. If I could have, I would have changed it to the parents' address and keep it there until I get settled in a few years. But since that is so far away, I had to get one for where I am (the old one was an address that no one I know lives at). Didn't know about the ticket for having one in one state and the other in another. Hopefully that doesn't apply here.
 
Finally got my wireless reconfigured (it didn't like the change in states). Also got my curtains hung and laundry going. Been a productive morning. About time for a nap now.
 
First day of "real" clinicals today. Ugh. Even after 4 "orientations" in 4 weeks, nobody knew what we were supposed to be doing.

I almost don't even care if I'm learning anything; I just don't want to be useless and a drag on the residents.

You'll pick it up quickly. Just be pleasant and offer to help out when you can and your residents will appreciate it. We've all been there.👍

I'm sure I'll be feeling the same way in a few weeks. Starting out with surgery...not sure yet whether I like that or not.

Seriously - I think I was 6 weeks into third year by this point last year. I'm 6 weeks into fourth year now 😀

We had summer classes. So basically, took boards at the beginning of the classes, then had 5-6 weeks of class. Then we had about 1 1/2 mos to move wherever we have to move and get settled in before starting up for rotations. Thoroughly enjoying the month (just in case you were wondering :meanie: ) Although it would be more fun if I had some more money. Doctors are eating up my money right now.

Good luck with all that. I'm still debating on whether or not to change my first rotation. I think I will wait until after my next dr appt, then decide if I need to meet with the director or not. I hate being the problem child before we even start, but I guess things happen that we just can't control.

On another note, we also have to pass boards before starting our rotations. If the scores happen to not be back in yet (we were forced to take it by a certain date), they will pull us from whatever rotation we are doing and have us go back to get some help with studying. Maybe this is why we have the full month off (for those who were unfortunate with the board scores).
 
I suppose I should now get out of bed. Yes, I am enjoying the month off to the fullest.

McNinja's correct. I thought I had been retired until I heard about her loss. It's a black band of mourning.

In other news, what a difference a few days make. Or a new attending. My new attending told me to see a patient, who turned out to be anorexic. I spent ~30 min with her, figuring out what I could. I presented my findings to my attending, and after we saw the patient I asked:

RxnMan: So what info/history did you really need me to get on this patient?
Attending: That she gained weight and that she's healthy.
R: So we could have been in and out in 10 min?
A: No, that patient was a textbook. It's good that you spent time with her so that you know what her condition looks like.

And that's when the rotation started getting better. Another fun story:

RxnMan: It says on the chart that you're here for a follow-up. What issues do you need to follow-up on today?
Pt: Follow-up? I don't know.
R: (Thinking she's here for routine health maintenence) Well, then let's address each of the issues here...(I see that patient has 13 diagnosed conditions, including several I've never heard of. 90 mins pass...)
R: Well, that covers everything. I'll take this information to my attending. Any other problems you want me to bring up?
Pt: Nope. Oh, by the way, I came here to have this driving form filled out.
R: 😱😡

I got out of pre-clinicals in mid-May. I took 5.5 weeks of board prep. The next Monday I started a 2-week elective, a week of vaca, and then the wards. Or outpatient, in my case. Many (~40%) of my classmates took 8+ weeks to study for boards, and took the exam the weekend before clinicals. Others, because they're in a separate program, took Step 1 early so that they could do their mandatory international away elective.

I totally messed up my sleep schedule last night. Hopefully it gets back on track by the end of next week.
 
I think I need to start rotations now. Like tomorrow. So that I can hide from the real world for a while and so that I can't get bad news for a straight 10 hours. Many friends' lives are falling apart, and I really hate seeing this happen. I know "when it rains, it pours," but does it have to pour for a week straight?

As a part of their program (4-yr BS + garaunteed admit to med school + longitundinal courses in public health issues), they have to do a 4-week away elective between 2nd and 3rd year. It has to be in a different health system. I don't know any more details, but some program kids had to take step 1 before they were ready.

Eh, not much, but I should log in every day to check on things, and I don't have the ability to do that now - no internet at home, no internet at my outpatient site.
 
Today was a day of headache turned migraine (fell asleep, so now I'm awake). Hopefully these days go away soon 🙁

Maybe I will finally finish the apt and clean tomorrow (was the plan for today).
 
So more and more I wish I had a program that used 28 day blocks instead of months. Worse still is that here they don't change on weekends, so the month is longer or shorter due to this.
Which wouldn't be so bad if October wasn't a 33(!) day month, and I'm on medicine, but November is 28 days, and I'm on a "cake" rotation. So if you flip those, it is basically an extra week of medicine hell. Plus, you only get 5 days off the entire medicine month, regardless of how long it is.
December is 34 days long, but you have a week of mandatory vacation in there.
 
Now I don't start with surgery :clap: :banana:

Sorry, I'm on anesthesia right now, but by the time I caught up on my sleep it was time for the democratic convention and I just now realized I can get on my laptop on the couch. 🙄

It sounds sick, but I kind of miss being a doctor on anesthesia.
