I just got the same email, I think it is trying to say that even though we didn't get an official email yet, we're in! :soexcited:
Otherwise I don't think they would have invited us to admitted student's day.

That makes sense. Well I already RSVP for the admitted student's day, congrats yourself!

Have you received any scholarship/ tuition fee waiver from U Mich?

Just found out I was admitted to the Health Behavior program at UNC! Was not expecting that, as I emailed to ask about the date for their admitted students day. The Student Services Manager wrote back and told me I was in and to expect more information soon. After getting admitted to Emory's BSHE program on 1/19, it's been a great few days!

A heads up for those applying to both Emory and UNC: they're both having their admitted students day on March 22.

Applied: University of Washington (Community-Oriented Public Health Practice), submitted on 11/1;
University of North Carolina (Health Behavior), Emory (Behavioral Sciences and Health Education), University of Minnesota (Community Health Promotion), Colorado School of Public Health (Community and Behavioral Health), all sent by SOPHAS on 11/21. Emory application was sent to the department on 1/11.

I heard from U Mich yesterday and they said they will email me once they make a decision about fee waiver.
I am still awaiting JHU, Harvard and Columbia, think I will pick them over U Mich.

Anyone have thoughts on that?

Michigan is ranked than Columbia, but who knows if that reflects reality.

Despite the ratings, I think the 'Columbia' name and more importantly NYC will make me pick CU. Its been my dream to live in NYC and I think its my last chance before being too old to really enjoy it!😀

But more seriously, I am extremely interested in cardiovascular disease and research and eventually plan to be a cardiac surgeon in an academic settings with strong emphasis on research, I was very clear about that in my personal statement. I was wondering which university will give me the space for multi-disciplinary research and networking?

Hi All,

Just a general question regarding financial aid (through FAFSA). After completing the FAFSA for 2013-2014, I read through Columbia's website to see that one must include information from parents as well to be considered for aid. Is this true?

I work at a hospital which did not send out W2 information yet - I filled out the answers to the best of my ability, but I wanted to see if anyone knew how long I have to submit the updated FAFSA information? With the high price of tuition, I am nervous that I will make a mistake on the financial information!

Please reply with comments and advice! Thank you!🙂🙂

I don't want to reduce my aid package because my parents have money that they are not giving me (retirement savings). Ugh. Columbia is really bugging me on that end because it is the ONLY school asking for their info. The FAFSA says I don't legally have to submit it, so I'm not. I think the requirement must be directed at undergraduates because as a non-dependent, I can't legally get that information unless my parents voluntarily provide it, and if I were estranged from my parents (I'm not, but hypothetically), I would be out of luck with FinAid at Columbia.

You have until when you get your W2. It's a lame answer, but it's the truth. There is no hard deadline there.

Yeah, rankings are a not-so-good way to measure a school's fit for you. I want to go to Michigan because Ann Arbor is awesome, the school is friendly, the (many) professors are well-connected in my field, and it isn't too expensive. I won't have the ivy name to drop in convos, but humility is a good thing and UMich is just as well respected in that field by the people who matter (employers).

Sounds like Columbia is probably a good choice for you!

Can anyone else comment on the Columbia financial aid situation? I have no problem adding my parent's information -- but I did not find anywhere on the website that they require this...

I have already submitted my FAFSA, if I need to add my parents info how do I re-submit?

Has anyone gotten the login id and password to fill out Columbia's online supplemental financial aid form? As we apply for financial aid (FAFSA), should we expect an e-mail from Columbia as applicants with this information?

I cannot access the online supplemental form...

Thanks a lot!

Each time you edit the FAFSA, it will automatically edit the information available to the schools. There is no need to notify them. The form will do it for you. When you go to the FAFSA website, it is possible to make edits to the form. Search for it.

I also applied to Columbia. I do not expect to hear from them about FinAid until after admission/rejections are out. Not all schools require the supplemental information (if they need it) during the admissions decision process. Some prefer it only for students who have been admitted.

I would sit tight.

Did anyone else get an email from harvard asking whether we want to enroll for summer?? I was so excited on seeing an email from Harvard 😡

yep, me too.. my heart literally stopped for a split second... only to get information for summer session enrollment

Got a rejection email from Yale this morning. I didn't think I had much of a chance to begin with so I'm not upset about it. Good luck to the rest of you!

Hi gumbyj,

I pulled up the website last night to double check, and the link below states the portion about parent's financial info. It is quite easy to resubmit, I think it would be fine as long as your information is already submitted, you are able to make edits as many times as you need. If your parents haven't filed taxes yet, just put the estimates in and update when available.

Just got a rejection from Yale. I had applied for chronic disease epidemiology and got the completed email from Yale on 1/4/2012, SOPHAS submitted on 11/28. A bit sad as it was one of my top schools, but all the best to the rest of you.

"Dear Prospective Student,

Parental information is needed, unless you are 30yrs of age and older or married, in order to determine eligibility for some scholarships that require parent financial income. It is not mandatory in order to be processed for financial aid however without this information you may not be considered for these scholarships."

I don't much care that they ask for parents' info as my parents live in poverty and make less than I do as an undergrad, but it's quite annoying that they don't think to mention that somewhere other than buried very deep in one scholarship :/

It's okay! I got into Emory and BU already. 🙂 My top choice is Penn State, and they're the only one I haven't heard from yet. Fingers crossed!

Good luck! Even if you end up at Emory, it's a great school in a great location, and let me tell ya something, New England's food ain't got nuthin' on Southern food and BBQ.

And I know Boston is an awesome city/school as well.

I am getting so antsy - I haven't heard from any schools yet, but I applied a little bit later. I would be happy with an acceptance to any one of my schools - I am just anxious for decisions!

I am holding out hope for Yale (got the complete e-mail on 1/17/13), but in reality they just probably haven't gotten around to rejecting me yet 🙄

Has Yale sent out any acceptances yet?

I had a question to all those who were accepted into BU on Jan 14th. Did you receive your physical mail as yet. Its been 7 days and I havent received anything.😕

Me too! I received the acceptance email on Jan. 11th, but haven't received the packet. It's been more than 7 days, and I am getting worried. I will probably call them tomorrow.

Accepted into BU concentration in Health Policy and Management (1/24)! Now just have to wait for the financial aid package. Good luck to everyone else!

Edit:

Also, does anyone know when we have to inform them if we are going to attend or not?

Congrats! April 15 is the deadline to notify them.

I haven't received an admissions packet from St. Louis (1/4) or Emory (1/19). Minnesota just sent me the same letter that they sent me online.
