I am applying with this admission cycle and searched previous threads but could not find an answer to my question.

When I go to report my GPA from my primary college on the VMCAS application, you can only go out 2 decimal places (ex. - 3.61). However, my primary college goes out to three decimal places on my transcript. My GPA on my transcript ends in a 5. Should I round up when reporting on VMCAS or not? Sorry to ask such a silly question, but I just don't want to report it wrong 😳

If you go by the rules of significant figures, it depends on the number before the 5. If it is an odd (1,3,5,7,9) you round up. If it is even (0,2,4,6,8) you round down. This way it evens out a bit; half the time you round up and half the time you round down. At least that was how my chem professor explained it. Then again, it's not like you are playing around with things that can possibly explode :boom: so I say either one is appropriate!

if OP's GPA was 3.645, it would make more sense to round up to 3.65 instead of down to 3.64.

if less than five, round down. if five or greater, round up.
