Hey guys,

I'm on Day 19 of the 4-month SN2ed MCAT schedule, so I just finished the second re-read day, which consists of re-reading the previous 5 chapters that you read that past week.

My strategy so far has been to take notes for each chapter on the re-read days (I don't take notes during the first read-through). Would it be a better idea to just take somewhat detailed notes the first time around and just review my notes on re-read days?

I find re-read days to be excruciatingly boring, since I've just seen the material. I tried re-read day for the second time in the schedule now already, and I feel the only helpful thing is being able to take notes with a better feel for what's important. Most of my time is just skimming the material and not necessarily "absorbing" it more than I already did the first time around.

For those on the SN2ed schedule, or who have used it (or even not), what do you think about re-read days? Did you do the re-read day, skip it, or replace it with something else entirely?

Thanks!

Haven't started my plan as of yet, but what I see myself doing is simply reading the precise notes I made throughout the week... cause that's how I learned in undergrad. I think it will all come down to self-preference. What do YOU feel comfortable with doing?

I came to the exact same conclusion as the OP after a few weeks. It is far better to take notes on the first read through the chapter, especially for things like equations and concepts that you know you are going to forget before test day. Then I used the reread day to quickly review my notes/equations for that week and then used the rest of the time to get a head start on the second 1/3 of passages. Content is just the foundation you lay, whereas passages are really where you get better at the MCAT. I also stopped doing EK 1001 because I had the TPRH-SW and started supplementing with that. Because there are so many passages when you do that second 1/3, it takes a LONG time to adequately review them so getting a head start on the reread day was very helpful.

Everything O Grady said is spot on. I highly recommend you get TPRH SW and substitute it for EK1001

As I mentioned in the OP, I've tried the re-read days for the first two times already, and feel like it isn't quite as productive as it could be. I'm going to try taking detailed notes and reviewing those instead so that I can make the review time shorter and more productive.

I also have the TPRH-SW and don't find the EK 1001 all that useful either. How did you replace the EK 1001 with the TPRH-SW? Did you just do a few passages that matched up with that weeks content?

Yeah I mostly did TPRH SW bio passages, since TBR's tend to be not as good. I would just do a few on the topics I studied that week, and if I felt like I really needed it I would do a few more. The advanced passages are very very good, so make sure to do those.

Right on. You got this. 🙂
