no word from RFU for both med and smp. sadness. brightside... got an interview at UIC med tomorrow. anyone know if its for a spot or waitlist?

I'm not 100% sure so I won't comment.
but after the interviews one of the deans of admissions, a very nice elderly man with a soft voice (Dr. Girardi i think?) will talk to you about admissions and give a ppt presentation. Use this to your advantage! he will answer absolutely any question you have, and once you leave that room, you won't hear anything back but the decision after some time. So ask ask ask!
Good luck. Go through the sdn feedback it helped alot for one of my interviews.

I just came across some great advice for those of you that are on a waitlist this year and plan on submitting an AMCAS 2008...

You should submit your AMCAS 2008 ASAP with only 1 school designation so that your AMCAS application will get verified. Then you should wait a few weeks and then add more schools. If you should be accepted off the waitlist in this time, you just saved yourself some $. If you don't get accepted you can add more schools to AMCAS and your app will not be hurt because your app was already verified and will transmit to the schools right away. AMCAS only charges the flat $160 fee once and it won't cost any extra $ if you add more schools later.

Well, hopefully we all get good news soon.
 
Anyone still looking for a roommate? I'll be moving down in Aug as long as my state school doesnt accept me by then.

I was going to do that but ended up just submitting it to all my schools. I finally accepted my fate. If I get accepted, it will be a shocker.

Nick, you have some stelllar stats!!! I think it is a good list and that you should be fine. It seems like you too competitive for some schools. But, overall good list!
 
I wish i was too competitive. I spoke to my admissions councilor and she called a few schools. Apparently, there is some rumor going around that I do not work well in groups, oh yeah, I also interview poorly. That is the reason why I only get waitlisted.

🙁 🙁 Maybe thats why we were all wait listed..we need an interview work shop ASAP!
 
i don't even know what to do...whether i should fill AMCAS or not.
 
do you want to be a doc? Fill out AMCAS, submit with 1 school, submit others once you are verified. Get on that pony now or get stuck with the ass. Good luck!!!
 
Wadup all! Hey, I have an interview at SGU on monday. Anyone's thoughts?

I also don't think I'm gonna apply this year - I'm sure I've mentioned this before. I'm gonna freaking amp up my application and apply the next round. Plus, it's not that big of a deal because I'm not that old (skipped a grade in elementary school).

Hope everyone is doing well. I'll be back in chicago by sunday and will be back to my old SDN ways I'm sure. Take it easy this weekend!
 
I just found out that Creighton didn't notice my mentioning of shadowing in my experiences from 2007 AMCAS. I wonder how many other schools overlooked me because of the same oversight.

i want to be a doc. but i don't know if i should work on improving my app some more and skip the upcoming app cycle and re-apply.

also i am considering caribbean and also i had my interview for sgu already earlier this week.

I called them up and they looked over my application.

If you are going to apply this year, do it now, otherwise save some cash.
 
This week is almost over and it looks like no one heard a word from RFU this week. Next week: Wed is a day off, which leaves Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri. If Wed is a holiday, I am assuming people are gonna take other days off also. I don't think we'll hear anything next week. 🙁

June is almost over. Now we only have the month of July and few days of August b/4 RFU starts. There should be a little movement in the month of July judging from the the past.

People, please please please withdraw from RFU. I am begging you...Please withdraw!
 
I know there was atleast 1 spot open as of Monday...now whether they have filled that spot or not I have no idea.

I'm done trying to figure out how this process works and gonna move on with my life. I've submitted my AMCAS 2008 and am looking for a job for the upcoming year.

How does RFU contact people to let them know that they have been accepted. I know they have emailed/called people in the past. i know they have my cell phone # and my permanent phone # (my parent's phone#). would they call my phone # b/4 they try the permanent one.

i am very freaked out right now...my grandmother answered the phone and they person said my name so my grandmother (who speaks very little english) said hold on and then went to find someone but b/4 she could give the phone over to someone the person hanged up.
now the phone call could have been a junk phone also....but i am just paranoid right now and don't know what to think of this random phone call.

I know that they call you initially; and they also send a letter. I would hope that they call you back, but doubt it. So just keep an eye out for the mail i guess.
Also they will send you an email saying welcome to RFU and one about fin aid. Thats what happnd to one person on sdn. They never got a phone call/ letter but found these emails one day, called RFU, and found out he/she got in!

All I got was a letter (small envelope) via regular mail. That was like May 30th though, so maybe they're using more expeditious means now that it's a little later in the game. Who knows.

thanks DVN! i went to the interview. got thoroughly grilled. it was for a waitlist spot too. Oddly, UIC only has like 30 ppl on the waitlist so either i get waitlisted or i get rejected. hopefully, waitlisted.

anyone hear anything from rfu?

Guju, I'm guessing you've gotten school's feedback on your application and know what they want you to improve??

Having gotten interviews and waitlists, you really should be encouraged (you ALL should!) - though I know it is really hard right now to see that. You're close - so close! Definitely reapply, and reapply to AACOMAS, too - early - NOW! Yes, it's a PITA, but if you get in this year from the waitlist all you lose is some application money.

Take a look at your list of schools - find schools that are a good fit for your special interests & experiences, whether they are in line with your numbers or not. I got in to MSU CHM (off the WL) as an OOS student, which is a total shock to me (so is the sticker price 😱) but in retrospect, I realize it likely has a lot to do w/ my experiences, which really fit their 'mission'. This is my 2nd app cycle & last year didn't do nearly as well as you guys have done this year. So hang in there.

A friend of mine finally got in this year after 4 tries and he has great numbers, but didn't do much to really improve his application. He just targetted different schools, submitted EARLY (including all secondaries) and followed up again & again, to make sure his applications were complete early. :luck:
 
I agree with orthodoc about being close. There just aren't enough spots for qualified applicants, which makes the process seem like a crap shoot. I applied to 30 schools, had 3 interviews and ended up with one acceptance, one waitlist and one post-interview rejection. Had I applied to 29 schools (excluding the one school that has accepted me) I'd be re-applying right now and probably thinking that I wasn't cut out for this. I dunno, just my two cents. 😳

On a side note, I know my family means well, but I am getting so annoyed of hearing, "you will get in definitely off the WL."

So frustrating!

:laugh: I hear ya on that one. In fact, I got so sick of it that I just told everyone I had received my last rejection and had to reapply next cycle. They were a little annoyed when I called to say that I actually got accepted but it was totally worth it. 😀
 
I got my housing for mwu today. I submitted the app.
Yorktown apt high-rise. $950 f*ing dollars/month. PLUS utilites.
Debt, ready or not here i come!!!

There is, but much less desirable and a little further. The location where Bigdog is optimal.
 
what is MWU? I'm looking for housing still, but its hard to look for it without knowing the immediate surrounding area. What are some cities or towns I should search that will get me close to the school.

Anybody know of the bus system there?

MWU=Midwestern University, an osteopathic school in the Chicago area.

Some cities around RFU are Waukegan, Gurnee, Lake Bluff, Vernon Hills...other people in this thread may be more helpful as I am not from the Chicago area.
