RVU-COM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got my acceptance call today around 7pm (eastern time). interviewed on 3-6
super excited 🙂

Interviewed on 3/16, accepted today.
Does anyone have a list of the clinical rotation sites ?

1) Anyone who interviewed 03/14 received call yet?
If you are wait-listed or declined, when might one be expecting notification of their status? Thanks guys!

My husband interviewed on 3/7 and was to hear back yesterday on a decision. He hadn't heard anything all day, so he emailed Katy and she responded that she would do her best to get in touch with all today. And just a few moments later, H (as in Husband) received an email indicating that he has been added to the alternate list and that his file "will be reviewed with each cycle"...does anyone know how many cycles are left, and what are the conversion stats from waitlist to matriculation are? waiting is not my greatest virtue, but after this experience, it will be my best feature 😉

Same here. Called and found out I was on alternate list. I also found not only the curriculum to be organized in a way that I am thrilled to study, but the people there are also very pleasant. What are the chances of getting into RVUCOM through the alternate list? and What else can alternate list people do to help gaining admission? Thanks guys!

Yeah, I also wonder what the alternate list movement is like at RVU, maybe we should co-host a sticky titled, "if you are withdrawing your acceptance from RVU post here" Best of luck to you opabsju:luck:

Is it normal to receive a nice email from one of your interviewers after acceptance?

Sent from my Epic Touch

My whole interview wasn't normal, so I'm going with yes

From the professor that interviewed you or one of the student ambassadors?

Anyone recently (within the last 3-4 weeks) been accepted, rejected, waitlisted or has withdrawn acceptance from RVU-COM? 🙂

Check the DO student class thread... Under med students, not premed

Checked there too, didn't see much related feedback 🙁 It's been awfully quiet here lately, and I am starting to think that the last interview batch was in the middle of March...

I know I read someone is interviewing in april...

It's pretty quiet here lately. Does anybody have any news regarding accreditation for RVUCOM? I have been expecting them to get full accreditation in April, but I hear nothing so far. I wonder if they run into troubles in that process.

My understanding is that they have to graduate their first class or something?? Which isn't until May. However, if I find any info out, I'll post it...

Accreditation is going off without a hitch we had our last inspection about a month ago and they found no deficiencies (nearly unprecedented). We are actually getting our accreditation letter any week now. They actually accredit before the class graduates. We are also waiting on the accreditation for the Higher Accreditation Counsel of the area which is more prestigious but not required to be a doctor. It is just to go to show that RVU is really striving for quality.

Just withdrew my acceptance for the Class of 2016 good luck hope someone here gets it!!! 😀

My understanding of the regional accreditation is to gain federal student aid???

My understanding of the regional accreditation is to gain federal student aid???

Basically. Two quick things.

COCA accreditation we get when our 1st class graduates, But we really have it now since its just a matter of paper work going through and all the final assessments have been finished, this Accreditation says you are worthy to be a DO school, meet all requirements to educate DO students ect.

Regional Accreditation, for Federal Aid ect. We are a candidate for this, to be fully accredited here can take 1-4 years. I was at the student lunch when the Regional people came through in the Fall and that is what they told us, they didn't seem to be sure on the time frame after being accepted as a Candidate and actually getting the full Regional Accreditation.

Hope this helps.

Is that 1-4 years from this fall when they visited then?

I know they're hoping to have it sooner than later, but I was told they were hoping to have it by my third year (2014)

Interviewed today, last interview date and apparently the final day of deliberations. They said we'd be hearing this afternoon, literally any minute now...

Anyone accepted in the last interview group?

Yes. And now I'm on the hunt for apartment... Any input would be stellar.

Does anyone know/remember if attendance is mandatory for all classes? I'm looking at getting a part-time job while in school, and I wanted to know what my schedule would be like... If they're not mandatory, do you know if they post the lectures anywhere?

Thanks!

They are NOT mandatory, and are posted online to be downloaded...

Oh good! Very exciting! Aaaaand would you happen to know where I could find a class schedule for MS-1? Or is that not up yet?

I was as well! I may well also need to find housing, preferably pretty close to campus. Does anyone know anything about availability in the condos across the street from RVU?

Anyone accepted in the last interview group?

Excerpt of email from the President of RVU today:
"Today I received notice that we received the status of accreditation on as of April 22, 2012."

This isn't a shock to me, but it is nice for all of us to hear.

Good to hear! They haven't changed the accreditation information on their web site though.

Any recent waitlist movement anyone would like to share.... 🙂

I don't think you'll see movement just yet, I believe the MD deadline was yesterday, give it a few days to start moving. Also, DO schools don't have a deadline, so it can be very late in June/july

Seems like we will begin to see some wait list movement soon. Got a call today asking if there was still interest in RVU since the committee will be meeting soon 🙂 anyone else get this call?

I also received that call. I hope there's some movement soon as well!

Good luck!!! Hope you get good news!

Bueller? Bueller??? I'm I the only one present here, or more like left behind? lol

We're here, or at least I am... I get notifications when people comment...
Did you hear anything?

I haven't heard anything yet either. I was told there would be movement between mid-June to mid-July. I still can't stop checking this site a couple of times a day anyway though 🙂. I hope there is movement soon!

Another week has gone by and only the echoes of silence persist on this thread.

I will continue to post, to maintain top of mind awareness..... still here, still waiting.

Has your husband been persistently sending LOI to the school? I can't say you'll get in, but it's the only thing that will help...

Oh yes, and constant communication with Katy, indicating hisfile has been updated with new info.

I know this is a loooong waiting game and is part of the whole process, I am just a little antsy because RVU has had the least (or any really) amount of movement off their waitlist compared to the other waitlists my hubby is on, which of course gives me less hope. I understand not everyone is on SDN (ignorance might be bliss in this case) and that there has probably been movement, we are just not privy to that here.

I use these threads as a barometer, which I know is a waste of time considering that this forum is not used by all involved with the process, but it does sometimes provide a sense of hope (maybe false hope) when revelations are shared by others.
🙂

ah, okay here's the deal with that...

RVU doesn't interview 4x the number of people they plan to accept "just in case," they accept ~75% of the people they interview, and the final deposits were due in May, which is a considerable sum of money ($2500). There will not be considerable movement on the waitlist compared with other schools. Not to crush your hopes/dreams, just letting you in on the info. Unless they have a considerable amount of people give up the $2500, you won't see much movement. Still, best of luck because it really is hard to say based on the fact that there isn't a 'drop dead' date like with MD schools. There really should be...

I totally appreciate this info; it helps a lot, thank you!

I should add, it also means the waitlist is smaller. At most schools it's 3x the seats they have, at RVU it's 1/2 the seats they have (or so)
