RVU-COM Discussion Thread 2011-2012

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I am wondering the same thing. I cannot figure out their portal. I can only find information about interview day and accommodations.

yeah I just received the invite as well but can't seem to find the date/time for it! I'm assuming we need to call?

Got the invite too 😀

I can't even log onto their portal...says my logins are incorrect.

[EDIT: never mind it works now]

What are the dates they're interviewing so far?

I got my invite as well!
To find the dates, I went to the original portal link we were given with our secondary invite.

The AM interview starts at 8am and the PM interview starts at 11am.
AM vs. PM interview depends on which date you choose.

I just submitted my secondary today. When I click on the essay tab, the essays aren't visible. Is it just my application or are the essays supposed to still show up?

I can still see mine... Might want to look into that.

For those of you that have gotten invites I would recommend staying at the Red Lion Inn. I think they might even recommend this Hotel in the portal but if they dont I found it an amazing place to stay. The reason being it was only about 80 dollars for the night but they included shuttle to and from the air port and to and from the interview. So for 80 bucks I think you cant beat that.

Im a 1st year there and if anyone has specific questions or anything feel free to message me. Good Luck to you all!

My undergrad gpa was a 2.75, which was 10 years ago. I went back to school 2 years ago did all my pre-reqs and gpa was a 3.5. MCAT was a 27. I will never get my cumulative gpa over a 3.0 with all the hours i have accumulated. What do you think my chances are admission? Thanks for your feedback!!

Wondering if I should start stalking RVU's campus for an invite....

IS or OOS has nothing to do with RVU's admissions. They are private, and do not have any bias for IS/OOS. Their tuition is lower for CO residents due to CO law, a CO resident is given a ~10% discount on tuition, but it doesn't matter if you are from CO or not...

According to their admissions people, they will more heavily weight the recent coursework, however, as I am in the same situation and do not have an invite yet, I can't say how true it is...

MtMed, I'm wondering the same thing... sitting 2mi away in Aurora right now wanting to go over there and ask the admissions people personally for an interview!

Complete at this school as of 8/10/2011. I had the secondary a long time ago, but sat on it because of the negative feedback about Private Loans, provisional accreditation, etc. It doesn't really affect my decision to apply here or even matriculate, but it did make me place the secondary on the backburner while I was filling out others.

Damn you SDN.

Did anybody else have trouble when trying to submit the secondary? I put in my payment information, clicked submit, and it just took me back to the "Section 1:contact" tab. No confirmation. I tried this twice. Just wanted to check and make sure I wasn't missing something before calling the school.

I'm getting the same thing as well. I just tried again today, but to no avail. 🙁 Have you called yet? I'm thinking I should probably call tomorrow to figure out what's going on.

Hi guys,

Just got the RVU secondary today. It asks for an email address for the physician I shadowed. I don't know his email address... but I have his phone number. Can I put that instead? Unfortunately it's a required field.

Also, how long were ya'lls essay responses?? There are so many! haha. Hopefully I can get RVU and CCOM done today.

Maybe call your physician and ask for his email? 😀

I made mine about 1/2-3/4 a page for each.

This was happening to me so I e-mailed them, and they said they had received it, so you're probably safe, but you may want to call/e-mail just to double-check. 🙂

Thanks guys, I emailed them and they said they'll add my essays to my secondary. Also, they received my LORs (I'm guessing today) and my file is marked "file complete" on the main page. The only problem is on that same page, it shows three dates but I only see two names of the letter writers and the third name is missing. Not sure why his name isn't showing up.

EDIT: actually, the third date shown is for file complete date, which means only two LORs are shown. Anyone experiencing the same thing? I sent in 7 LORs

same here...have three lors but only 2 are showing up..but when I called and made sure they were there (see earlier in the thread) she named all three...

I have four and they only list three... 🙂 Maybe they do that to see if we're paying attention!

I did a campus tour last summer and didn't ask about the IS/OOS issue. The Lady who led my tour made a point of bringing it up and told me that there was a 60% instate bias for admissions

She told me the opposite. I asked specifically about it and she said 60% of the class was out of state... Either way, it's a private school and they don't consider residency in their admissions policy. According to the woman who gave me the tour.

Well I hope you're right, because I'm an OOS. But she specifically described it as a "Semi-private" Maybe it was 60% OOS 40% IS but she definitely told me they reserved seats for Colorado Residents

No, preferred, but an MD letter is acceptable

I am a little confused on how many LOR's need to be submitted. If we dont have a premed advisor/committee letter it says you can substitute 2 letter from professors. Is that in addition to a physician LOR for a total of 3 LOR'S?

Yes. If you don't have a premed committee... you need to submit 2 letters from professors, and 1 from a physician, for a total of 3. 🙂

But you can submit more if you have them....

Uh oh...

Tried to Login this morning to check my status and it won't let me.

"Your current status indicates that you are no longer a prospective student."

Rejected?!

That is exactly what that means. You should receive an email confirming this within 24 hours.

Sounds good. Will add it to my pile.

Thanks

I'm in a slight dilemma. I've been holding off on completing my RVU supplemental which I received last week because I have been unable to get my DO letter writer's email address. I have his phone number, but he's out of town and it goes to his voicemail. I called his secretary and she said that she has the company email, but not his... which is completely different.

I wonder if I just "make up" an email address... do you think this is a huge risk? I mean... do they actually contact the letter writer? If they try to, but aren't able to send their email... and they tell me about it, I could always give them his phone number right? Hmm...

I don't know. I feel like I'm definitley violating some ethical issue here, but I don't want to wait another few weeks for a silly email address. It's ridiculous!! Any advice would help.

If the school tries to email him at the "company address," wouldn't that most likely get handled somehow? i.e., a secretary forwards it to him or prints it and gives it to him?

You could always call RVU's admissions office and explain the situation. I'd bet that they'd be willing to work with you, i.e. submit the application now and update them with the contact information later.

Thanks so much! I'll definitely be doing that. :]

I never even got the email until AFTER I sent them an email asking... I also found out that they never looked at my application, and they asked me VERY insulting questions like "do you know the difference between a DO and MD"? The woman also told me they like when students take biochem, and I have 11 semester credits of biochem... Not super impressed anymore, and while I'm disappointed I was rejected, the email response is what angered me...

Who did you speak with? Everyone I have spoken with there have been so unbelievable kind. I am surprised to hear this?

Wow and you were one of their biggest supporters on here. Do you have a red flag on your app?

Rejected! Really surprised by this one...CO resident, 33Q, 3.75...wtf. any insight?

Iliketoytles: A company email is fine. A thank you email is automatically generated, so the admissions office just needs to have an address to send it to. If the email comes back undeliverable, it will send up a red flag...
