RVU-COM (Rocky Vista - Colorado) Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah, he just got a cut on his eye, and on the inside of his eyelid. It looked worse than it actually was, but scared me half to death. And now it's all swollen, so he looks like a gremlin. But he's still cute!! We'll have to get together sometime before school starts definitely! I can't wait to meet you all!

It was tons of fun to get together, and I'm sure we'll do it again before school starts.

I COMPLETELY understand about taking care of your baby! Mine comes first, too, and I would do anything for my little girl!

Hey everyone! Sorry I missed the "get together"; I just got back from a vacation to Keystone (started on the board and this was my first time on skis) and it was a blast! I was basically trapped out past the the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 when that stormed rolled through last Wed/Thurs. Made it back home in one piece so I'm not complaining. 😀

Early this week I toured the the Parker, CO area and was able to see the new RVU campus from a distance. Needless to say, it was awesome! I also visited a few of the larger hospitals systems where there are secured clinical rotation sites and rest assured, the sites were numerous, well-funded, logistically ideal, and will provide excellent training opportunities! Denver is undoubtedly a great place to learn/practice medicine and ALL the professionals I spoke with there in Denver and the surrounding area were 100% in support of the school. There are/will be plenty of student opportunities and the training at the clinical sites will be superb. It became apparent to me as to why the area was chosen as the site for the new medical school! 👍

Hey Gas...welcome back! Missed you brother. I'm stoked that you had a great experience in the CO wilderness. I am also excited to hear your take on the hospital locations here in the greater metro area. You are 100% right, we will have amazing learning opportunities throughout our time at RVU.

We did miss you at the get together. And GG made sure to have one of her cosmos for you. We will make sure that we get to hang out with you prior to the start of the school year.

Anyway, glad you are safe and sound. I missed seeing you on the forums.

Heya ParamedLiz! Thanks for the message! Glad you and GG had a great time - did you all (& Libo) go to that "Corks" place GG mentioned? Sounds like good fun! I ate at Maggiano's off of I-25/Clinton Sunday night and thought about you all and hoped it went well.

It's really not worth mentioning, but I noticed all the "myopic" folks (the same three people and a "new account" LMAO :meanie:) made yet another pathetic appearance in the RVU Non-App Discussion thread. I must admit, I laughed my arse off after perusing the thread. That SAME OLD garbage conjecture just seems so much more asinine now that I've visited the professionals and the school. I can more effectively understand the disdain at this point because the school - and more importantly the Denver area, are so plainly awesome for medical training and quality living. Regardless, I'm glad you and GG were able to so effortlessly lower the boom on that utter B.S. :hardy: 👍

Best to you Paramedliz and chat with you soon! 👍

(BTW, those idiotic folks questioning Paraliz's post RE average stats can msg me for my stats or simply do the work on your own by viewing my post history).

We, GG, libo and myself, did go to the Cork House. I had never been and it was pretty nice. GG and libo brought their SO's which was cool. My lady had to work, so she wasn't able to attend. Next time, I hope. Maggiano's isn't a bad place to eat, I'm sure you enjoyed yourself.

Yeah, those lame a$$ suckers...shame ****, different posts. Like you said, same three folks, posting the same tired crap. I'm so glad that you were able to meet independently with medical professionals in the area and hear that people around here are actually really excited and supportive about the school. Sometimes I wish I could crawl through the computer screen and shake the **** out of the people who post their opinions as if they are fact. Funny. Well, we will just have to show them with due time, I guess.

I'll chat with you later! Stay cool.👍

Dr. Mohr is confirmed as the new faculty professor at RVU who will be heading up Specialty Medicine.

Dr. Putthoff ,RVU-COM Dean of Biomedical Sciences, will be the resident Pathophysiology instructor/expert.

I've talked to a number of professionals who have worked or trained with Dr. Putthoff and they all recommend him highly for pathophys and other medical instruction. I don't know much about Dr. Mohr (yet) but from what I've located he appears to be a great addition to the already solid RVU faculty roster. 👍

Amazing. We have such an awesome faculty, amazing administration, fantastic facilities, and outrageous clinical sites. I just can't wait.

Gosh, I just hope that us pathetic students of RVUCOM can pass our boards. :scared:

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

As one of the RVU Ninja's we will not pass our boards but break them like they have never been broken.

HA HA ... Happy Cardiovascular Day, Everyone!! OOHHHH... that sucks for your patient today, Liz!!! Heart attack on Heart Day!!!! Bummer.

Hey you guys...I just drove past campus and saw two beautiful bald eagles standing tall in an adjacent field. Do you think that is a symbol of anything?

Are you serious?! That's awesome and of course it's symbolic. 👍 I didn't see anything as cool as eagles when I was there at the campus although I really liked the area. Aside from the prime surroundings, the Denver Broncs headquarters is nearby as well as the Denver County Coroner's Offices.

On my journey to and from Denver I *did* see some mountain sheep, a couple coyotes chasing a jack rabbit, a hawk diving on a dodging pheasant, and a few antelope...

Personally, I thought it was funny and neat-o but the only thing I came across in northern Denver was:

Yeah you will find a lot of prarie dogs around the metro area. And yes, I am serious, I saw two of them! It is pretty cool having the Broncos headquaters there just down the block. Maybe our group can go and watch them practice sometime right before school starts. The training camps are open to the public.

You definately will see numerous Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep on your way to the mountains. There awesome to watch scurry up the rocky cliffs.

Well, someone missed snack time if you couldn't tell. 😱

It's absolutely dreary here so I'm going to head out and locate some delish pho soup. 😀

You must have read my mind! Why doesn't that surprise me? 🙄 I pondered that very thing as I realized my new-found pho establishment would no longer be available... do tell me where this place is located, please! I also hope they serve all the vegetables - you know, the bean sprouts, fresh basil, fresh jalapenos, lime, etcetera... any mean summer rolls (with the o-so-delicate rice wrap) to be had as well? 😀

Heck yeah! Its called PHO 79 and its on Havana by Mississippi (If you have ANY idea of where that is!) They serve all the fresh veggies - bean sprouts, basil, jalapenos, lime, etc. AND they summer rolls are delectable! Its soooo good and soooo inexpensive - perfect for us starving students! I'll design a field-trip to take place during orientation so that we can partake in the deliciousness that is pho!

Methinks I might just have to have lunch there next week, now that you mention it! 🙂

Well, the first thing I have to say is that RVU exceeded my expectations . . . the interview went amazing, the faculty and staff are wonderful, the facilities are the best I've seen (the plans, anyway), and to top it off, I was accepted today! I seriously cannot imagine a better place to study. The only thing that worries me are the finances, and since I'm married and my wife is working, my undergrad loans (>80K) will go into repayment, since they don't qualify for deferral (for those of you who are single, don't worry, your UG loans can go into forbearance). Hopefully that will all work out, if so, I look forward to seeing you all there this summer.

Congrats NMR/Josh...:clap::banana:

I hope that the financial situation works out in your case so that you can matriculate with us in July.

YAY!!! :clap::banana::welcome:

Josh, I would talk to Kathy in the financial aid office and figure out your options. Maybe your wife could pay toward your UG loans while you're in school? I don't understand why you can't put your loans in forbearance??? I hope you figure it out!! I'm sure you will, and it will be great to meet you in July!

Congrats NMRGUY! 👍 I'd take GG's advice and see what options are currently available with regard to financing. I'm fairly confident that the Title IV-V funding will be available well before year three based on the diligence of RVU officials.

Everyone be sure to spread the word regarding new/unknown finance options (in addition to MedPlus/Nelnet/HPSP) for that first couple years.

hello all! I'm new to SDN (registered just to post this, actually), but just wanted to pop in and say hi! I just sent my deposit on thursday, and am really excited to be matriculating here. After the interview, I was so excited and giddy, b/c I really felt like the school was a perfect match for me. When I got my acceptance, I felt bad b/c I definitely screamed Kerri's ear off. I'm very thrilled to hear that there are other people as excited as I am. I can't wait to meet you all in July!

OMG I was just going to suggest that exact one. Its the best. I live in Philly now and haven't found one that beats it. Their Bun is great too, and of course the spring rolls. I miss colorado. I kinda wish I would've applied to RVU now.

Way to go tanvilu! I personally can't wait to meet you, as well as the rest of our class in July.
Be sure to visit our facebook group, and if you haven't already, fill out the interview feedback section under 'databases'.
Congratulations!

A couple of you already know this from my PM's:

I talked to SallieMae and confirmed through the financial aid office that:

1) There is a letter of waiver that you can submit for private loans that allows an increase in your lifetime maximum loan amount

2) SallieMae is working on increasing their lifetime maximum loan amount to $300,000 anyway due to increased likelihood of students carrying high loans from the undergrad/grad loans.

Also, RVU is establishing 3 scholarships to be available for first year student - They will be worth approximately $20,000 each! I don't know if that is $20,000 each year, or $20,000 over 4 years, but that is amazing! Furthermore, Kathy (in financial aid) said that there are many, many businesses in the area that are wanting to contribute to the school, so they will be setting up a foundation for donations and will provide more scholarships from that foundation!

Thanks so much GG for posting this information. IMO, yet another reason to prove that RVU is on the right track with us!

Thanks for the warm welcomes! I did indeed join the facebook group and will post an interview review soon. I don't know how helpful it will be though, because it will mostly be me singing the schools accolades. Quick question: did anyone get a chance to go to the school during their interview? When I went (1/16) I drove past the school, but we couldn't go inside. It did look beautiful from the outside, though.

Also, totally unrelated: I really need to find a pho place in Chicago. Looking at that picture made me hungry! Also, to libo who talked about rock climbing, could we please please do that? Being from the Chicago area (the flattest place ever) I get unreasonably excited when I see mountains, hills, and rocky formations higher than my house!

Hey Tan...

I had the opportunity to tour the campus during my interview. It's is as beautiful inside as it is on the outside! Did you see above that when I went by two days ago, I saw two bald eagles standing in the field adjacent to our campus. WOW!

We can go do whatever you want to do. It sounds like we have some very athletic and outdoor oriented people coming in. My expertise is snowboarding and camping. But I also get a kick out of mountain biking and hiking. We should form an outdoor adventure club during our first year!

Hey guys....I accidentally hung up (phone died while it was being passed) on a call from RVU the other day.... I called back the number but got a general message. Did anyone else receive a call? I'm nervous about what I missed (left message there as well)!

So glad to hear our campus is beautiful!

I got to work with a traditional Ojibwe medicine man for four months, and he would say that, yes, indeed, there is a great deal of significance in seeing a pair of bald eagles in the adjacent field. He would view it as a wonderful sign of sorts, in fact. On a different note, that's awesome that you saw bald eagles in the adjacent field. They are such beautiful, magnificent birds!

I would so love to form an outdoor adventure club! I pretend that I know how to ski, when really, I'm just trying to slowly improve myself (being from the flatlands doesn't give me too many opportunities). I think it's a fantastic idea to form an outdoor adventure club. We should definitely do it.

I agree! Being a ski and snowboard instructor in Aspen, most of my friends are complete hippie ski bums. I am sure that I can get some GREAT group deals with the ski resorts up here. I teach rock climbing in the summer, so I know some great places to go. I am also a competitive horseback rider and instructor, so if you all ever wanted to do anything like that, I am sure that I can hook you up. Great idea!
