RVU-COM (Rocky Vista - Colorado) Interview Discussion thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, I think you have a very difficult and important decision to make. On the one hand, you have received a very inviting invite from a brand new program, with hope and enthusiasm. On the other hand, you have a concrete offer from a solid program that has an establised repution, and much less risk.

One day, you will be a doctor, and you will have to make a similar type of decision with treatments: do you go with the unproven Tx that offers great promise or do you go with the Tx with has proven to be reliable.

Right now, Rocky View can offer you promises, pictures, and anonomous recommendations over the internet that will certainly benifit Rocky View. On the other hand, Western can offer you actual accounts of students who have been through their program and can attest to the strengths.

When I go on Ebay, I look at the sellers recommendations before I buy. In this case, you really don't have much of a record to go by except for the experiences of students who currently attend programs that are run by the owners of Rocky View.

I wish you the best of success in your career.

So, wait... first you jump on this thread to slam the school. Then you act as if you want to offer valuable advice and you don't even get the school's name right. I'm pretty sure that any "insight" you may have is not helpful. You are a student at AUC, I am guessing, who obviously knows little to nothing about RVUCOM. This is obvious by your statement:

"... experiences of students who currently attend programs that are run by the owners of Rocky View."

The owner of AUC is NOT the owner of RVUCOM. ROCKY VISTA (just to make the correction) is owned by the son of the man who owns AUC. It ends there.

And, just for the record, the experience of the faculty attests to the strength of the program.

However, this is also not the thread for these discussions. Please refer to past threads that address these things.

Don't get defensive. I simply presented my POV, which I believe to be a fair analysis. I didn't present any arguable material, really. I simply stated that I believe it is better to attend a more established and well-known school than a brand new one, mostly due to risk and the unknown. Western has a good amount of alumni and PD's are more likely to recognize it. RVU is new, unknown, and a bit controversal. It hasn't graduated a class, so it has no alumni. This presents certain risk. If you are the adventurous type and you think RVU is going to help prepare best prepare you, then, okay, go for it. I'd go with Western, but that's me.

Anyway, it should be noted that the truth is rarely with the "cheerleaders" or with the detractors. The truth tends to lie between the extremes. Take all the information with a grain of salt, put it all together, and make an informed, but also heartfelt decision.

Gene Genie is not being defensive, you've stepped into her thread with that fear garbage, pal. Her opinion is valid and her warning should be heeded.

Take it elsewhere Endo or Spiced will provide you with an infraction.

If you hate cheerleaders at unproven, new schools, go take it up with those in the LMU-DCOM thread; they'll put you right.

That's the last I'm going to say about it. Sorry for going off-course, but the member asked for opinions.

I'm not getting defensive, I only want people to realize that just because the school is new that that in NO WAY will affect the quality of the education that we will be getting. Our faculty are amazing, and come to RVUCOM from well-respected schools with numerous years of practice and teaching experience. It will be their experience that will guide us.

Listen, I'm not picking on RVU. I would have said what I said for any new school versus an older, established one. I know tensions are high and you guys are on guard, so to speak, but don't lump me into the detractors crowd. I'm not trying to spread any lies, nor am I particularly biased. I don't care for the political stuff going on with RVU. I have more immediate worries.

And, GG, we have no way of knowing how it's all going to be. The only way to know is to go through it. Thus, I would be curious to know your experiences as you matriculate and move through. Good luck to both of you. I respect you both.

Not from you - from those interviewees in this thread. Nice try with your feeble attempt to appear "innocent and caring" with sprinkled niceties intertwined with old thread vitriol.

Backpeddling has commenced.

Hey, I thought you weren't going to say anything else and tuck tail? So much for sticking to your word.

I appreciate your well wishes. And, you are right that there is no way of knowing exactly how it will be until we go through it.

However, I am very confident that we will do great. We will keep everyone posted about our progress and experiences throughout the years! 🙂

From the piss-poor use of the English language to the misinformation and limited posts, I think even the newest of SDN noobs would be able to tell this guy (user LostFaith) has an agenda, is likely a disenchanted Caribbean castaway, and is only here to create a problem. Buh-bye.

You know, I never attacked you, but you proceeded to attack me. This isn't very mature behavior. I will let that be evidence of defensiveness. Sorry I stepped on a sore spot. Medical school itself will right any ego issues that might be present. I know it did that for me. Carry on.

Actually, truth be told, I am excited for you. There is a lot of pioneering and braveness in doing what you are doing. Congratulations, future doctor! I wish you much success!! 🙂

I see no attack, unless youre a hyper-senstitive type. I'm saying it like it is. I've no ego issues but I love language and sarcasm.

You posture sure isn't open. Anyway, we are definitely off-track here. I don't want to continue arguing with you. Your cup is already full.

Thank You!! It is exciting and pioneering, and I appreciate the braveness comment. I think you are right. But I see such potential with the school and its new rotation agreements, and its developing residency positions (dual-accredited), and the amazing faculty.

I wish you success, too! Where do you go to school?

Then I shall proceeed to take a big drink. Your counterfeit posturing with regard to your school advice is transparent and I'm not the only one here of that perspective. Carry on.

It's people like you that are sure to make RVU a success. I see no better addition than people, like you, who are fully on board for the ride and who, after careful research, believe it is the best choice. 🙂

I wish you success, too! Where do you go to school?

KCUMB. Anyway, good luck to you and your class. 👍

I don't care what you think. I have no beef with RVU or with you. I have stuff to work on that is much more important than posturing on the internet. Have a good time being an internet hero.

Oh man, you'll probably end up being my upper-class mentor if that's actually the case. Wouldn't that be some ****.

This is child's play - oh yea, you need to study! Get to it. Truth be told, I pop on for some entertainment and typically seek out users who try to dish it out but can't take it... those are my fave. See you at KCUMB.

Haha. Go ahead and dish it out. It's like a mild sting compared to being pimped by attendings and made to do all the scut. See ya around, newbie. 😉

HAHAHA! No doubt. Good luck and sorry to detract from your studies - but you took the carrot 😀

Gas, your heading to KCUMB? Seriously? I always took you for such a strong proponent for RVU, why not go there yourself?

Its not RVUCOM itself. He IS a huge proponent - he has some peronal reasons why, but I'm sure he will go into that when he's back.

Gas, your heading to KCUMB? Seriously? I always took you for such a strong proponent for RVU, why not go there yourself?

For me, it's strictly financial and I can't wait for year two federal aid after TitleV is granted at RVUCOM. I have two awesome friends who are attending RVUCOM and we all had roughly the same stats (one also outscored me on the MCAT 🙄), so I'm interested in where they are heading and their respective "futures" - and I firmly believe in what I've learned with regard to RVUCOM along the way. I really like what they have to offer weith their educational model and clinicals in Denver and the Mountain West.

As it stands, RVUCOM and KCUMB were/are at the top of my list. I had a hard time because I had 5 acceptances. I was thankful - and I'm not bragging because it made it much more difficult for me to decide. Lost a ton of sleep, excessive trips to the locations, research time of faculty as well as clinical sites, not to mention the detailed evaluation of the pros and cons of each med school. Also, I met many wonderful med students and faculty along the way and everywhere. I also learned that a large amount of misinformation is presented here on SDN from premeds - and surprisingly, even from med students who have blinders on for only their school and like to put other schools down. It took a long time for me to sift through the crap and it's irritating and can be frustrating, really. The decision was much more difficult than the app process, IMO. So, I'd be at RVUCOM if it wasn't for the slight TitleV/Federal Aid delay. 👍

Because despite the criticisms by this user, he/she is more inclined to take my advise and select an established school rather than take a chance and try an upstart.

This is misleading and is only a half-truth. The owner of Rocky Vista is the CEO of AUC. There is much more to the relationship that what you listed.

Mods, please... handle the troll.

Mods, please...

If there are going to be mistatements made, I will correct them, so as to facilitate the process by which interviewees consider information provided to them on this forum. Nothing in the TOS forbids disagreeing with you.

*sigh* Did you guys not know that we closed a RVU thread previously because it couldn't stay on target? There's nothing wrong with expressing your opinion in this thread as long as it is related to Interview Discussion. Please try to stay on target, all of you...or I may have to get official.

As for the facts about RVU, I think everyone is pretty much aware of it's for-profit status and ownership. We also all know that it is a new school. Let's move on...

You obviously don't have the skills of comprehension; the point is not disagreement, it's what the mod has already warned against and the fact that you are blatantly ignoring his warning.

I also really wish you were a bit more literate.

Because despite the criticisms by this user, he/she is more inclined to take my advise and select an established school rather than take a chance and try an upstart.

And how do you presume to understand my reasoning in the slightest? You're clearly mistaken as I've outlined my intentions prior to your post, thus making you the culprit of false statements and propagation of misinformation. (use a dictionary)

If that's not trolling, I don't know what is...

We need some Riker in here I guess. :meanie:

The whole truth as quoted directly from Rocky VISTA University COM website:

"Mr. Yife Tien, does not own AUC, which was established and is owned by his father, Paul Tien, PhD."

Get your facts straight before you post...

My facts are straight. As per the request of the moderator, we should move on......

This is it, guys. My final warning. The next off-topic post will close the thread. We closed the other thread because it couldn't stay on track. I will do the same for this one. Sorry.

The threat is misplaced IMO. I don't think it wise to deprive the RVUCOM students/interviewees from working within their own thread due to their correction of misinformation and general "troll control".

To deprive RVUCOM students of their forum due to the small troll population would be shameful - not to mention it's exactly what the turd churns are hoping to achieve.

I interviewed and am very familiar with RVUCOM because it's at the top of my list, therefore, I feel compelled and qualified to address issues and concerns, as do others who are intending to matriculate. However, we do not have to tolerate trolling and obvious efforts to incite, whether it's masked or not. Not in this thread and not today!

I will meet misinformation head-on with a "fact sammich" with a dab of chastisement, hold the mercy. 😀

Then please don't encourage taking the thread further off-topic. We had a thread for the discussion of non-interview related stuff, but guess what? It had to be closed because you guys were arguing non-stop and couldn't play nice. It's only fair that this thread get the same treatment. If you don't want to have this thread closed, then:

1) Behave yourselves.
2) Encourage professional and on-topic discourse.
3) Refrain from responding to off-topic and potentially inciting posts; report them instead.

Wow, I leave for 2 hours and a brawl breaks out!!!

Someone should start an RVU 2012 official class thread in the Osteopathic forum, hopefully that will limit the fighting.

I would, but I'm afraid that would get hijacked too.:hijacked:

Bad news man, it's not two years.... it's Four years. Two years if it was a non-profit but four years because it's for-profit.

anyone (maybe GG) have any idea HOW MANY rotations spots are available at each site? Its gonna suck if we have 30 spots at Platt Valley (level 4) and 2 spots and Swedish (level 1) or something like that...

also, (probably another good question for GG) any idea about these residencies that are being set up? How many/where/what type? Thanks!

Ok, so the last time I talked to Dr. Smith about this was a while ago, so I don't think that I have current information. However, I remember something around 20 spots per hospital with more in the larger (500+ bed) hospitals and less in the smaller places.

I know that there will be over 300 residencies, most dual-accredited, in all different specialties. The number per location per specialty I am not sure of, but I am sure that Dr. Smith has that information if you are curious. I recommend contacting him for the current, correct information.

Hope this helps!

No, we will be eligible after 2 years if another school (such as the nusing school that is planned) begins. If no new school, then eligibility begins with the graduation of the first class.

You're definitely on the ball! Thanks GG!

Oh, this is going down!

If I'm right you owe me a beer.

Bring it on, Big Man!!!

Hey, my info is straight from the Big Cheese himself. Didn't you hear him discuss this at your interview??? Its OK... you were probably too nervous and doing all you could to keep from wetting yourself. 😀 I'm teasing, of course!

But... in the highly unlikely chance that I am wrong... YOU'RE ON!! 😉

I'm going to need references, literature citations, and the like, though. None of this, "a friend of a friend told me..." 🙄
