Depends on where your friend wants to live/practice. The hospital and campus for RWJ are in two different towns which I didn't really like but not sure if that's the same for VCU.

OP how about you take us through your (his/her) thought process

Sorry - friend is torn between both. Just wants best school/opportunities I believe and I'm not sure there is a difference. Went to both Second Looks and really enjoyed both and the enthusiasm of the students at both. Deciding factor seems to be leaning towards VCU bc liked the Richmond area much better. I saw, however, that the average student MCAT is 1.5 points higher at RWJ than VCU. Obviously this does not make a decision - but is RWJ considered "superior" or something? Not sure. I did not apply to either of these schools so don't know much about them. Just wanted to maybe get some advice on here.

MCV (VCU) gives strong preference to ECs over MCAT/GPA in admissions. This makes their stats lower than their ranking or clinical training and reputation would indicate. As I recall, residencies gave them a 3.2/5.0 approval rating (i.e., in the upper half of schools nationally). I do not know RWJ's reputation. I can say, however, that coming from the Western U.S., I knew of MCV. I had not heard of RWJ, however.
