Should I shave it?

I have a 7 month year-old mix husky/pit bull dog. He is somewhat hairy, but not too much. He often gets hot and pants a lot during these recent summer days. So I was wondering, should I shave some of his fur off? Or just get him a kiddie pool and let him get that summer tan? 😎 Thanks ahead for your help!

I doubt a pool will do too much for him. Dogs fur especially a husky, is water resistant.

My question to you is does your dog live inside (in the air-conditioning)? And where do you live? AZ? If your dog lives outside, I would definately suggest a meeting with the clippers, if he lives in the AC, it is optional. We have a golden and he is not clipped. We do keep his water ice cold, and he spends most of his time on the tile.

I would let him inside the house where there is air conditioning and allow him to lay on the tile so that he can disapate the heat. If you can't let him inside a trip to the groomer's might be in order. Also, make sure he has plenty of water outside so he doesn't get dehydrated.

Be careful about shaving. A dog's fur helps insulate him from the heat and sunburn, so if you get him shaved too closely, it can actually make him hotter. Make sure he has fresh water and a cool, shady spot to rest, and don't let him get fat. Fat dogs have such a hard time with the heat.

One good thing that we have done for "winter weather" dogs is to just shave the under carriage of fur on their bellies, that way they wont sunburn on top and have a nice cool breeze as well. It has worked well and doesn?t give them a choppy look. Hope this helps! 😉
