SMDEP 2016

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also, my bestfriend also applied but for the medical one and it's only human to feel a little jealous if she gets in and I dont. 🤔

I have a friend who applied also and our sites only differ by 1. I hate to say it but I'm on the same boat as you—if I don't get in, I'll be crushed. If I don't get in and she gets in, I'll be super crushed.

It's only human.

Also, how do you guys know it's midnight? Instead of like in the early morning or afternoon of whatever

The decisions have probably already been made, they probably had a deadline to meet ours. It's just the fact that we have to wait till the 15th to know what they decided.

Yeah obviously. But sometimes they make you wait until normal business hours or like a specific time during the day to get results. I hope we get them at midnight but it's still a possibility

It's definitely midnight. Last year I found out midnight.

I'm in NYC and all classes are cancelled tomorrow. But that's just me.
Omg I'm so nervous guys...
Which sites did you pick?
Hmm now I'm wondering which school you're at. I'm gonna guess...NYU/Baruch?

I picked columbia, yale, howard

You were close!! I'm actually at Hunter 🙂
I picked the same sites as you omg
Good luck!!!!

What year are you?
What are your stats?

I'm a freshman, English major, 3.5 GPA, Low income and URM
I'm involved with one group at Hunter, but have volunteered for about 3 years with Girls Write Now. I've been published and received writing awards, but these are not for research or academic writing (yet). I'm also employed.
Essays- I have reason to believe that my essays were the best part of my application. My personal statement and diversity essays were both reeeeally personal.
Recs- I had a lot of trouble securing Recs. My prehealth advisor BARELY got hers in on time, but hers was decent I believe. My Chem professor was supposed to write me the other one but he disappeared off the face of the planet. This was during the break so no one was answering their emails. My English professor agreed to send one in but it was a day after the deadline so it didn't count, even though hers was awesomeeeeeeee (which made me sad)

I hope I get it!!! Fingers crossed

Oh you're definitely getting in then
Columbia is the most competitive and I have no idea why I even applied. My EC'S are great but I don't like my gpa.

Honestly? I'm not so sure. There were A LOT of things that went wrong with my application. A transcript got sent with only 2 grades on it. My Chem professor disappeared. My prehealth advisor sent it in at the last possible moment so I'm not sure if it processed in time. My essays were good but I'm not sure if good enough.

I just have a lot of doubts about my application. Plus, the sites I (we) applied to are the most popular ones...

I forgot to put that I was in a dental club at school. My GPA sucks. My essays were strong. I feel like if I'm negative about the situation I won't be as upset if I don't get in. Whereas if I'm super positive and I don't get in I'll be extremely crushed. I'm just so anxious. Just tell me if I'm in or not already!! [emoji24]

I also don't know why I picked competitive ones. I should have done more research and picked ones that most people wouldn't pick

(Sorry I didn't see the second half of your response)

Columbia is competitive, you're right. But I don't feel like GPA counts for as much as we think it does...

I just have a gut feeling I won't get it...

I feel the exact same way

Case western, I got WL Rutgers last year so I probably should have applied there too. Howard is my "reasonable" one. I also should have done Louisville.

Columbia is all about grades though...idk..

I should have done like Nebraska or Kentucky or something. But I didn't really want to go there either so there's that lol

It's just so stressful because there's literally nothing we can do about it.

True.
I applied to Columbia because it's the one I really wanted. Howard is my second choice. And Yale is my third tbh.

I didn't pick any of the others because they either had programs/descriptions I didn't like, bias towards CC (UCLA), and I have an aversion to the south.

I'm a person that likes to be in control. So this is killing me!!

Me neither lolllll. I know that with these other schools, they prep you to apply to their med schools and write you letters. So a columbia/yale/UCLA letter would look really good

You should have received an email on thursday stating whether you were going to receive the Decision today or not. so if you did you're good!!

Currently stress eating Doritos & watching Clueless to pass time...
11:01 Central time for me 🙂

I'm in a concert and I can't even enjoy it thinking about the results tonight!!!! +pity+

What program is this and can people outside those states apply?

Anybody applying for other programs? I want to know backups if I get rejected lol
I applied to like 16 different summer research programs and medical programs. So far I have only gotten into 2/16 so its good to always have options you never know.

I applied to Columbia, Washington, and Case. I've seen tons of comments about Columbia but anyone apply to the last 2 sites?

Hey y'all I applied to SROP which send your application to like 6 schools and I heavily contacted the professors during research and the advisors helming with the program. I will say 120% THAT IS WHY I Got into Ohio State SROP and University of Iowa SROP. The counselor low-key threatened me at Iowa that "I better apply next year." So contact the professors show interests and be friendly and communicate how much you want to go to the school even if it is not true. I will say that has been the thing that has helped me when applying to different things I never thought I would get is showing interest borderline "annoying haha." So regardless of what people say contacting is important, but do it very professionally and not too often. But also read the professors research or research the school and talk about the amazing things they do there (even if you think it is bs).

I applied to San francisco, orgeon, USF, USC, NYU, WUSTL, Rockefeller University, Duke, Columbia, Howard. I HIGHLY Recommend OSU or University of Iowa(med school is top 30) they are very friendly and the lady made it seem like if you did the SROP at Iowa and the professor liked you, you had a high chance of getting into there grad school or med school.

what GPA do you need for SROP?

Which ones did you get into?
So far University of Iowa and Ohio State University.

Usually at the minimum a 3.3 a few are a 3.0 but the majority is 3.3. My gpa right now is a 3.3 that's why I tried to get a good rep with the professors and program counselor because I felt that my application was not competitive enough.
