Hello all,
A little background information, I am a senior chemical engineering major at an HBCU. I've decided that I wanted to go to med school, but I put off taking the MCAT so now I have to take a gap year. My question is if I plan on taking the MCAT in May and applying shortly after (june or july), would it be worth it to do a SMP even though my application would be submitted before I even start?
Also my gpa is not as high as it could be (3.0 ish) but I plan on applying to Morehouse, Howard, and a couple state schools in Texas.

Yes, a 3.0 is way to low to apply MD, and there's a good chance you'd be reapplying so having the SMP will fix what would be keeping you out

Even if I do well on the MCAT? I know I will basically have to Ace it but Im confident that I will do decent.

what's your definition of decent? assuming you are URM/AA since you attend HBCU.
With a 3.0-3.19 GPA, you need a 30-32 to have a 75% chance of being accepted. If you are on the lower end of the 3.0-3.19 range, then you need an equivalent of a 32, which is roughly 512+ on the new scale.

If you score above that, you definitely don't need much GPA repair given your status.
