Stanford Interviewees: January Notification?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Don't lose hope if you don't get a call. I didn't get one and still got in.

Congrats!

when did you interview...and when did you find out (by snail mail, right)?

I'm just getting a little anxious...interviewed early December and no news...I'm thinking about calling tomm. 😴

chin up. december seems to be about where they're at with acceptances. maybe the "good" letter will come in the mail soon. :luck:

edit: if you do call, let us know if you find out anything relevant for everyone.

Most definitely....🙄

got the call last night from Dr. Garcia!!! 😀 interviewed mid-November and thought my time passed and was expecting the thin letter. So if you haven't heard yet, all hope is not lost!

sorry to hear that...

for the waitlist...they will let us know in June (so what's the point?) I'm going to just move on...I guess I'm not a "fit" for their >90 person class.

Congrats on the other options! And best of luck with the remaining process 🙂

not until june? wow. and not too many ppl make it off the waitlist, right? i wish i would have gotten *that* rejection instead! at least i could still boast a little bit for four months: "yeah, I'm on the waitlist at Stanford, so we'll see." lol. seriously, though, i'm sorry they have a tough waitlist situation.

good luck to you, too. you seem to have a great sdn personality, the kind that a great school would want. good luck to everyone else waiting on stanford, too!

ahh, thanks *blushing*

I really appreciate the encouraging words. I guess a waitlist is just a deferred rejection...oh well...I am fortunate to have other options (schools that actually want me) 😍

Good luck to you too! And to all those waiting...all the best to y'all :luck:

glad to see both of you have viable options you're happy about!

i haven't heard anything yet, but i interviewed in mid-december, so i don't think they've gotten that far yet...

anyone know how far they actually are? have they gotten to the december folks yet?

i interviewed mid-december.

be afraid. be very afraid.

hi everyone,

i just got a package in the mail today saying i was admitted to stanford! i didn't think that they had reviewed my application yet, because I didn't get a call from Dean Garcia last Thursday, but it turns out they have! Just to let people know I interviewed Dec 18th. Good luck to all!

congrats!! how exciting!!!! i interviewed late jan so i guess i won't hear for a few more weeks... good to know there is hope though even if we don't get a call

hey just out of curiosity, those of you who got accepted (congrats!), how well did you think your interview went? from reading this thread, it seems uber competitive, and i just wanted to know how well the interview must go in order to get an acceptance. And those of you who are waitlisted, how well did u think your interviews went? Thanks much everyone for your help =)

I thought my interview went extremely well. One of the best out of every school that I visited.

And I got rejected.

As is true with most schools, it's pretty much impossible to tell how your interview really went, or how much of a bearing the interview has on admissions.

do you remember who you interviewed with?

I got on the amazing waitlist (ahem...deferred rejection) 🙂

I don't know...whenever i have interviews they tend to be shorter. And both my interviews felt very short, like they really did not have any questions for me. My faculty interviewer was really nice, very encouraging...

Actually, my student interviewer spent more time answering my questions...so I guess they reviewed my app before or something...oh well! 😴

Honestly, I have no idea what bearing the interview has on the final decision. So, I think just go in there with an open mind and be yourself. There is a certain amount of subjectivity that factors in (and you really can't account for that).

I really enjoyed my interview and feel like I connected well with the interviewers, since I had a similar background/interests as them.

I thought my interviewers went well, although I have had better interviews at other schools. I had two faculty interviews. The first was with a neuropathologist, and I connected well with him. The second was with a sleep researcher and she grilled me pretty hard on my research/pubs. I think interviews are important, but they don't make or break a decision. I think if you have a really good interview that in itself won't get you in, but likewise if you have a so-so interview then that won't prevent you from being accepted. Kind of frustrating, no? Good luck to all!

did anyone get news last night?? i don't think i was up for review yet, but just wondering if anyone had received a call.

hi all, i got the acceptance letter yesterday, no phone call (i'm an east-coaster, maybe that's why), interviewed december 7 and thought both interviews went well. my faculty interviewer knew a lot about my research so we talked about that, and my student was really helpful and nice. hope it works out for those of you who are still waiting. i loved the school, but i feel lukewarm about palo alto... maybe i'll see you at second look!

Hey everybody, I just got an acceptance packet last night (east coast)! I didn't get a call, and I interviewed January 4th. Good luck to everybody still waiting 🙂

congrats to both of you!!! how exciting! : ) i hope to join in with the good news in a few weeks (i was a late jan interviewee), but my interviews were not great so we'll have to see. crossing fingers.......

I was also a late January interviewee, and I got told different turnaround times while I was there. I remember Cassandra Sooter saying, "oh, you should here in 3-4 weeks" and then someone else... darn can't remember who, saying "oh it'll be a while, really, maybe april?". Hoping for news sooner than I expect...

interesting. i think Ms. Sooter told us we were "scheduled" to be reviewed the 2nd or 3rd week of Feb. If suphadren just heard and interviewed on Jan 4th, perhaps it really won't be too much longer!!

so if we interviewed there the first Monday of Feb, does this actually mean that we won't hear back until april?? 🙁 🙁 🙁

i would guess you'd hear before april, but who knows?

no, more like the end of feb, first week of march at the latest. They normally take 2-4 weeks it seems at this point in the year (if you interviewed Nov/Dec it takes longer). Look at posts from last year, although they may be behind this year...

I interviewed on Feb 14th and they told me we'd goto committee first or second week of march.

Like you can see from this thread, comittee meets on thursdays and you may get a call on thurs evening if accepted, although it seems they don't call EVERYONE that is accepted. God this wait is going to suck...

Yeah, let's hope they are not backed up 🙂 i'm rooting for us, Chaldo!!!

Greetings Stanford hopefuls and Happy Thursday!

If you get a call tonight or a letter, let us know when you interviewed and how you think your interview went. Good luck to all!

Greetings - anything after Jan 4 so far? I am about ten days after that. If memory serves they review ~25 apps a week, no?

Hey A Tree, I interviewed about a week after you. So maybe you'll be up this week and I'll be up next week? I'm not sure how many they get through each week. Anyone have any idea... where did the ~25 come from?

good luck everyone!!!

I think I got that number from my visit when they were explaining how one would calculate your expected wait. (interview 4ish each day since October, first mtg in Jan, review 20-30 apps each week) They actually seem to be going a little faster than that, no?

I was actually told two separate things as well--Jonnie was more optimistic about hearing in Feb, while Greg Vaughn said late March for a mid Jan interview ... Jonnie's estimate sounds more on track at this point.

I hope Jonnie is right! It looks like Suphadren, the Jan 4th person also got a snail mail acceptance and not a phone call so perhaps he was even reviewed two weeks ago. In that case I definitely think we should be up for review soon!!

Crickets....

Indeed.... interviewed 1/16 reviewed 2/15, rejection received today. The potential move to the bay area was a contentious issue in my personal life, so I guess it makes things easier. It is however, as someone in this thread or another said, hard not to take a post-interview rejection personally, even from the Stanford.

Good luck everyone waiting and waitlisted!!

hi guys,

not to hijack the thread, but could a couple of people please tell me what time your interview day started and when it ended? i'm going there on tuesday...

thanx =)

Hey A Tree, how was the rejection relayed to you?? Was it via email or snail mail? Also, how did you know when your review date was??

I believe we were asked to arrive by 7:30am w/ first interview ~9:00, and I remember finishing up about 3 or 4 pm. The finish time is dependent on when your afternoon interview is, but I'd doubt it'll be much later than 4. It's a very relaxed day; good luck.

(I interviewed on 1/22 and am nervously awaiting news, btw.)

Just to poke my head in extra quick...A friend of mine interviewed on 1/22 and received a call from Dr. Garcia on 2/22 around 9:45pm east coast time. Good luck though...
