What happens if you get off the waitlist after classes start at another school? Can you be like, ooops I want to go to Stanford, I drop out? Major LOLZ / sucks a lot. This is a reasonable scenario, since many schools i figure start in early august (including the one I'm going to).

Once you start at a school (this usually means attending orientation), you have "attended a medical school" and cannot go to another unless you apply as a transfer.

The school you have chosen will be contacted before you are when its close to orientation. If you have already matriculated, your school will let the one that wants to pull you off the waitlist know that you have matriculated and you will never be notified.

another day guys...hopefully some good news comes out today.

Slowly losing hope....but I imagine the next round of acceptances will come out next week if they are coming out (I think Garcia gives everyone 1 week to decide).

I'm just curious, how do you know these things? or is this just speculation?

Question123, an SDN user, told us that she received 1 week to make her decision after being accepted off of the waitlist:

I'm not sure exactly what Dean Garcia said but I remember his statement "this is what we call the fat envelope call"... he said I should have my package by today (i'm east coast), and gave me a week after to decide. The financial aid people moved at the speed of light (mostly to tell me I am not getting a dime, but at least they quickly decided that!). I really had hoped stanford had a matching thing...

Good luck guys!

Stanford Waitlist Haiku

Elusive Stanford
Prayers for the fat envelope
Call me, Garcia

Hmmm....last time I checked I think I was caucasian.
oh, didn't know "haiku" exists outside of the japanese language until 3 minutes ago from wiki..haha

It's 7.

prayers (1) for (2) the (3) fat (4) en-(5) ve-(6) lope (7).

Prayers is one syllable.

Yeah he is right. Prayers is one syllable. People just Pronounce the world incorrectly.

yeah, my bad

looks like on dictionary.com that pray-er (one who prays) can be two syllables, but the actual prayers that one does is one syllable.

good to know

STANFORD 😍😍

hmm seems like we won't be hearing anything..if anything at all.

We always have each other! 🙂

On another note, has anyone else every received an email back from Dr. Garcia? I sent him another 'High, I love Stanford' email and didn't get a response.

EDIT: Remember that the wait list letter said that they wouldn't know until June...so we may just have more waiting to do : \

Can't believe I get to post this here. But....
ACCEPTED!

Got a call here at 12:00 PM EST, while I was driving home from a saturday morning run to the lab. Thought I was going to have an accident, and I must have sounded like a complete, nervous wreck talking to Garcia because it caught me off guard so much.

I have a week to decide (day after labor day? maybe?) and apparently financial aid turn around is 12 to 24 hours from when I send my stuff in. May be organizing a trip next weekend to check out Palo Alto again, as I recently got really excited about the prospect of living in New York and sort of have accepted the fact that it might be the best geographical location for me. So, not 100% yet, but I'm so, so happy to have the option.

Good luck EVERYONE! Ah, so excited!

woooh MDEAST!!!!! congrats buddy!

Congrats, MDeast! That's great!! 🙂

I must say, you now have a hard choice...I am from the west coast and really wanted to go to an east coast school...but it didn't happen this time around for me. NY is SUCH a fun place to be in medical school, omg, and I have 3 close friends who are there just loving life, along with the types of people they have met in their training. Also, having been at UCSF... I know how much the California schools LOVE taking people from the east for residencies....hmmm...

So, do you think it will come down to preference for you or financial considerations (i.e. the package they give you, cost of moving, etc), or both?

Have a fun day! 🙂

Congratulations! Such a wonderful choice to have.

Congratulations! Such a wonderful choice to have.

Thanks premad! Are you going to UCSF? Or Stanford?
Haha, I have no idea how I'm going to make this choice. Already booking flight to SFO for later this week to walk around and check things out.

Just an FYI. I joined the Facebook group. There are 69 people current enrolled, but some of them are definitely MS1s (soon to be MS2s).

mdeast, tell Dr. Garcia that bunsen needs to follow beaker

Wow, explosion of posts, and rightfully so! CONGRATULATIONS mdeast!!

Good to know about the FB group....69 members now...but I am glad to know that some are MS1's...any other interesting info you can gather from the postings in the group? Anybody seem like they are on the fence, waiting for other WL's, and may not go, or pretty much everyone is completely enrolled?

So...what is in that acceptance packet anyway Question123 or MDeast? What sorts of things?

im pretty sure the waitlist movement means that the class is at capacity (86) and not oversubscribed right now, and as people continue to drop out the list will keep moving

Hmm...could be, but I would venture a guess that the class has not yet reached capacity...many people offered spots are still deciding, looking at financial aid, then he'll make the next set of offers, etc, and thus, it won't fill up this quickly...

Also, my guess is that Garcia first offers (i.e. this week) to the people he wants most and who are located (or settled on locating) on the east coast or far from here. Because those candidates need the most time to get stuff together if they are to switch to Stanford. Just a hunch. Is anyone here who got an acceptance off the WL currently located in California?

mdeast, your success has raised my hopes! Here's to the persistent SDN Stanford Waitlisters! 👍

Wow!!! Congratulations MDeast. You rightfully deserve it. Good luck with choosing.

aaaah congrats dude! I'm glad at least one of the people in our super secret facebook group got in!

Good luck all! I got accepted almost exactly 24 hours after writing a Stanford Haiku. Just sayin'.
