Got my first rejection from Northwestern!
Just called Berkely to ask Audrey if I was a finalist. She said a few faculty members haven't reviewed their applications or something and that I should hear by Monday at the latest, if not by the weekend.
I'm pretty sure I'm a finalist at UCB, but I have to tell Emory if I'll accept their offer by Monday. I hope decisions are released in the next few hours.
I emailed Emory and told them that I would like to know what PI I'm working with because I've recieved another offer and would like to make the best informed decision. I'm still considering Emory for grad school so I wouldn't back out after committing. I'm just hoping to delay giving an exact answer until I hear from UCB.I've been contemplating a few things being in this same situation; I have to accept a program by Monday. However, if UCB emails me on Tuesday and says I'm in, would I be willing to back out of the other program? Would you be willing to back out of Emory? I think I'm already preparing myself to possibly back out if this situation turns out the way it seems it's going to.
Hard decisions over the next few days -_-
Same! What concentration did you apply under?Oh gosh, I'm so nervous. I'm waiting on Harvard Leadership Alliance. I really hope they're still sending out acceptances.
Out of curiosity, did you apply to Columbia's Amgen program or to Columbia's Materials Research Center REU?Just got rejected from Harvard Amgen. I think I'm going to accept Columbia's offer if Stanford or UCSF doesn't respond by tonight.
Out of curiosity, did you apply to Columbia's Amgen program or to Columbia's Materials Research Center REU?
Either way, congrats!
Also, for anyone wondering, responses are due March 9th, so I think they'll be sending out another wave next week.
Where did you get this? Was it through the Leadership Alliance? I applied straight from the website and it says that responses aren't due til the "end of March."
Is that so? I didn't realize anyone heard from Columbia LA already. Oh well, another probable rejection to add to the list! Lawd...I think some people have already heard back from Columbia? They're probably just seeing how many accept the offer and if they need to contact more applicants with offers.
Hey fellow summer research prospects! I'll admit I'm not much of a science applicant (social sciences and humanities) but I've been anxiously waiting for some sort of response from the Leadership Alliance sites that I applied to. Are there any fellow soft science applicants waiting to hear back from SR-EIP? This thread on SD is literally the only once I could find regarding LA applicants. Best of luck to everyone!
SOCIAL SCIENCES/ HUMANITIES WHOO!I'm also a social sciences/ humanities applicant. I remember reading that biomed applicants will hear back earlier than us so I wasn't fretting until I started reading this forum, but who knows. I didn't know that has already heard back from Columbia yet... my top choice 🙁
How do you know you're a finalist for UChicago Leadership Alliance? There have been no updates on my portal.SOCIAL SCIENCES/ HUMANITIES WHOO!
So far I'm a finalist for UChicago Leadership Alliance and rejected by Northwestern SROP. I filled out an extra form for Ohio State but haven't been asked for an interview so I assume I've been rejected there too.
They sent me an email. From my understanding the portal (website thingy?) doesn't really get updated until April. Main form of communication is email. So the Leadership Alliance website for me still says I haven't heard anything back. How do you know you're a finalist for UChicago Leadership Alliance? There have been no updates on my portal.
Me too, are you another humanities/social science person? OMG TWINZIES.Got my first rejection from Northwestern!
Got accepted into MIT MSRP just now, interestingly enough, I was just composing an email asking for a faster decision since I have to reply WashU by Monday . I am like super duper excited right now. OMG this application cycle has been great for me. Now to the important subject, which would you guys choose, MIT or WashU.
I really want to do an MD/PhD program at Wash U but I visited MIT on this weekend thing they had and I absolutely loved it! Boston is like my dream city to live and it's MIT, like how can I reject MIT.
If anyone did MSRP last year, how was it? Would you do it over?
Yep! I love the small but growing contingent of humanities/SS people.Me too, are you another humanities/social science person? OMG TWINZIES.
Yes, I did.For those of you accepted into WashU, did you receive an "intent to participate" form with your acceptance email? I am trying to contact Rochelle to see where I can get it, but she's out of the office until Monday afternoon.
Just got accepted into Scripps Research Institute SURF at the California campus!!, but they are only giving me until March 12th to respond.
I also got accepted into University of Minnesota Twin Cities Neuroscience program and I am still waiting to here from some other summer research programs.
I do not know if I should respond to Scripps?
Lol I went to Boston College twice to present at some research conferences. Boston is very, very nice. PM me and I can tell you some nice places to eat and where you should visit. If you end up taking it over WashU....could you pleasssseee e-mail UTSW and tell them you want off the alternate? Just in case...haha
I am pretty sure that I will take the Scripps Program over Minnesota. Did you apply to the Scripps as well?If you're likely to go to Minnesota Twin Cities over Scripps, I would release your spot, just so someone else could take it. If you're still thinking about possibly going to Scripps, I would wait until you get results from other summer programs.
I am pretty sure that I will take the Scripps Program over Minnesota. Did you apply to the Scripps as well?
I just do not want to regret my decision, so I just want to hear what people think of the Scripps Program. For example, what was the program like and what is the La Jolla, CA area like?
Also, I am still waiting to hear from:
Rockefeller SURF
UCSF SRTP
Mount Sinai SURF
Rutgers SURF
Drexel SURF
Univeristy of Illinois Chicago SORP
Cincinnati Children's Hospital SURF
UMass medical school SURF
Good Point! Thanks for the adviceNo I didn't apply to Scripps. I did apply to UCSF SRTP from your list(haven't heard anything yet).
I would definitely try to get other people's opinion, but also take into consideration the field of research you want to go into, and which school is better for said field.
Hello everyone, has any of you heard from srop/cic schools? I applied to almost all of them I think and I have yet to her back.
Hahaha! High five, there's two of us. There's not a lot of info here about SROP. Have you heard from any of the schools? I'm anxious. It's almost mid march...So glad to know I wasn't the only one to check off all the boxes.
Out of curiosity, if you guys could pick between UT Southwestern SURF, Vanderbilt REU, and UCB Amgen, which would you pick and why? Coming from the perspective of someone who wants to do grad school in biochem/ a related field in the future.

Cool! Thanks for the help. I ended up with a Harvard Lab on mechanosensation (which I think is really cool).Definitely neurogenetics at HMS. More relevant to your field, helps stack other future opportunities in neuro. Makes you look solid in terms of neuro research.

You really can't go wrong with any of these programs. Many other factors come into play when considering the two: PIs you're interested in working with, location and climate, connection with hospital, stipend, where you see yourself going for graduate school, how supportive is the program? All three look great on paper and I'm sure have a plethora of resources for graduate students.
If you don't mind me asking, did you hear back from UCB Amgen yet? haha
Did you apply to the medical sciences division?Just got into SROH Harvard leadership Alliance...but already committed to another place last week lol ... Oh well
Did you apply to the medical sciences division?
hJust to let everyone know, Harvard Amgen made their decisions last week. So excited for this summer! And my friend got accepted to UCB, so I would think their acceptances have been mostly sent out.
Friday, March 6. There could still be the second wave of acceptances from those in the first pool who don't accept. When was your friend accepted into UCB?
h
To answer your question days later, I got to Iowa State University and work under a highly regarded genetics/cell biology professor. And I got into Harvard Amgen and other programs (University of Oregon SPUR, NYU SURP, etc.) I think it matters more who YOU are and what you've done, (plus letters of rec) more than where you go to school. BTW, this is my second summer of these types of programs (last was at University of Tennessee). So don't worry about going to a huge research university! 🙂What schools do those of you that were accepted into AMGEN go to? I go to UNC and research in a prestigious cancer lab and was told going to a big research university really hurt my chances and would like to know if that's true.
Agh, I applied and I'm dying to hear back. Did they call or e-mail you? I'm hoping there'll be another wave of acceptances tomorrow. Here's hoping!graduate school of arts and sciences
Whaaaaattt D: are you sure?Friday, March 6. There could still be the second wave of acceptances from those in the first pool who don't accept.
Yes, sorry. He already announced it on Friday on Facebook, so it's official. But I applied there too and did not hear back for rejection. So maybe you're still in the running!Whaaaaattt D: are you sure?
it was via email--good luck! hope one of gets my spotAgh, I applied and I'm dying to hear back. Did they call or e-mail you? I'm hoping there'll be another wave of acceptances tomorrow. Here's hoping!
