Yeah I called (forgot to ask where I stood, silly me) but I did find out that yes, "Alternate/Lettered" means we survived the cut - we're on the "official" alternate list now. He said "Congratulations" like 5 times . Apparently they sent out quite a few rejection letters. And as you all know it's already starting to move now, but the serious movement won't happen until after May 15.

👍 Let the waiting begin! Thanks for the update Kaz.

wow that's really mean, if you think about it those poor people who were on the waiting list are getting rejected, while we are put on yet another waiting list!!! I am very happy to make the cut, yet a bit sick of the waiting! "when will I have the final answer!"

👍 :scared: 👎

Since Buffalo is officially finished with its interview season I've decided to give our thread a bump. Anyone have any recent updates? Has anyone received his or her “waitlist letter” yet? Hello? Anyone?

I really need to work on my patience. 🙄

Watch, they'll go down the waitlist and get to me or you and then say, "Oh, let's interview 50 more people"

I wouldn't be at all surprised if after seeing our names they start mass e-mailing applicants on the pre-interview hold list. 😎

So is it better to be on the alternate list, or on the wait list? Does alternate = alternates for the waitlist?

Funny you should ask – I just finished reading the “Alternate List” letter that came this morning in the mail. Here's what it says, and I'm paraphrasing. This year has been a very competitive year in regard to the quality of applications received. As a result, the HOLD list has been shortened and a new Alternate list has been created thus forcing us to reject a significant amount of students previously on the HOLD list. The Alternate list that you have been placed on is a ranked list……

Therefore, the HOLD list no longer exists. The new shorter list is called the alternate list and is similar to a waitlist at other schools. It's ranked and as the more fortunate accepted students decline acceptance, we less fortunate alternates will be offered acceptance in ranked order. Hope that helped.

so i kind of wigged out when i got the letter yesterday and read the thing about the phone call after june 21st-thing [cause through this experience if ive learned 1 thing its that if i get accepted its going to be at the last minute] -- i called mr rosso this morning and he said that its a good idea to email the office a list of as many numbers as you need for them to get in contact with you; that 1 alternate sent him a list of like 20 numbers this morning.... just as an fyi.

how horrible would it be to come home from work at 6:30 on the 22nd to get a message saying 'call us by by 5 if you want to come here..... mwahahahahaha'

anywho. good luck all. and keep us posted with waitlist movement! mr rosso also said that he sent out an acceptance this morning -- they are in the upper-upper 1/3 [im in the middle of the middle] :luck:

I called today too. I asked him if the class was full and he said that it was but there is a good turnover from now until June 22nd. He said they send out letters of acceptance until June then they start calling. I was a few weeks ago in the middle of the alternate list and now I'm on the top 1/3. Good luck to everyone.

Hey everyone! I was reading through your posts and I remembered how terrible it was to be waiting for soooooooo long. I'm a first yr. at UB now, but the whole year was stressful because I never had a chance to take a break from worrying during the summer. Keep hope alive regardless of where you are on the list because they were accepting people through orientation last year. I called Mr. Rosso every week, and when I finally got his phone call I couldn't help but cry. When I walked across the stage to receive my white coat he was sitting there with a great big smile! I made it! My advice to all of you is to do something awesome this summer! Take a REAL vacation. When you do get in, you'll be thankful that you didn't stress out all summer. UB is great place, and I'm thankful for being here everyday. GOOD LUCK! 😀 :luck:

Now I'm a bit confused. I thought that anyone on the waitlist now had to be ready for a phone call any day now or else they could get skipped. Do they not start calling until June 21?? Either way I'll be watching the phone, but if anyone could shine some light on this I'd appreciate it. Thanks

if this helps anyone... i got a letter on wednesday or thurs saying i was still on the WL... and then on Saturday i got an acceptance. im from cali and im withdrawing so someone else should be getting an acceptance, really soon!

woohoo good luck

rjb - well done and thanks for the update!! hope you love whichever school youve chosen to go to 🙂
mjs - yeah - i believe they are sending out letters of acceptance until june 21, and from that point on they call
hmno - youre my hero!! haha - i was reading last years waitlist thread and youve given me so much hope 🙂

I couldn't let my favorite thread pass by without posting on it.

The infamous hmno! I still read last year's waitlist post from time to time and it's like reading a suspense novel with a great ending – congratulations again and thanks for the encouraging post. And thanks to the rest of you, rjb and others, for the updates.

I'm still hanging out in the middle of the bottom third of the waitlist. I'm actually planning to take a trip out to Milwaukee in June to scope out the apartment situation so that I'll be all set to go in the event that I never receive the call from Ub. Nevertheless, I'm planning to hang on to that unfavorable waitlist position until the bitter or happy end. Good luck all. 😉

*Edit* Strike the "bitter end" comment – It's all gravy to be holding onto an acceptance, but It'll be extra icing on the cake to get an acceptance from my #1 choice.

I just called and found out that I am in the top 1/3 of the alternate list.

I hope the list movement is consistent with the last couple of years. :luck:

I finally called to find out where my final position was - I'm in the upper middle 1/3.

So I suppose I have what, a 50/50 shot? 60/40?

I was kind of wondering what people thought about the odds depending on where you stood were also. I'm in the upper 1/3, and in the middle of this group. Kazema, do you mean you are in the upper 1/3 and in the middle of it, or that you are in the middle 1/3 and in the upper part of it? I guess it is hard to tell because every year is different, but how far down do we think they realistically will get??

I'm in the middle 1/3, upper part. If you're in the middle of the upper 1/3 you should get in, based on past years. I think their movement ranges from just about all the way through the whole waitlist to through the upper 1/3.

thats awesome kaz! now you can be my red flag; once your acceptance comes hopefully mine will follow shortly... i know you have the acceptance at NJ and are on other waitlists -- what is your preference right now?

and has anyone heard anything from good ol' ub recently?

I'm not really making a decision until I get off a waitlist, but right now Pitt is the one school that, if I got in, I would definitely go to. Case would be really hard to pass up due to the Cleveland Clinic and pass/fail grading. I saw Buffalo and UMDNJ-SOM as fairly similar atmosphere-wise, so that would be the toughest decision for me, especially if I can get in-state tuition at Buffalo. On the one hand, Buffalo seems to do especially well in matching in neurology and psychiatry, on the other hand, my sister lives in Philadelphia, and UMDNJ is located in a great spot between Philly and Atlantic City and I love the small class size. I think I'll be dropping off PCOM's alternate list, since I would go there only if they could give me enough grants/scholarships to make the tuition comparable to UMDNJ, which I doubt they'd do for a waitlister.

So if I don't get off any waitlists I'll be kinda disappointed but happy to go to SOM. If I do get off a waitlist I'll be excited but anxious about making the right decision. So I guess it's basically win-win for me at this point 😀.

Hey all those axiously awaiting...I recently got in to my own state school which is a lot closer to home so I will be withdrawling my acceptance from Buffalo. Hope this gives enough hope to see through another day!

Any news as to where they are on the list? According to last year's thread, they were somewhere in the middle of the top 1/3 by now. I'm curious to see how the list is moving this year as compared to previous years.

I think the difference between this year and last year is the fact that they decided to extend the interview "season". This may have pushed everything back. Hopefully we will all start to hear something soon. I am currently in the top third and hoping that I will get an acceptance. Good luck everyone!

im working up the nerve to call again -- i dont want to over do it, seeing as last time mr. russo was all 'yes! good morning ames!' like he totally knew who i was.... haha - unless he was just being friendly.... ill let you know what he says!

He seems like a friendly guy, I doubt he really minds 😉.

Still I feel kind of silly calling too often.

hi. my name is ames980, and im obsessive compulsive.
*hi ames980*

so i just called the office -- and the secretary said that there has been movement every day so they're moving through the list "steadily" -- they are about a third of the way through the upper 1/3rd

Thanks for the update Ames. I'm starting to feel smothered down here on the condemned bottomed 1/3. Good luck guys. 😉

Yeah I feel your pain GATORade....I am also on the bottom 1/3 and praying that they get through the whole waitlist this year!!

Hey Guys,
I just called them yesterday and they said that they were pretty much done with the upper upper 1/3 and they were almost at the middle upper 1/3. I'm in this area as I know some of you are too so let us know when they get to you.

UtterlyConfused,

Really?! wow, i didn't think it would move this fast. Mr. Rosso told me I am in the lower portion of the middle 1/3, then he said, according to previous years, I had a 45% chance of an acceptance. But I think he just kinda pulled that number out of thin air. But excellent news, nonetheless.

Yeah I'm pretty surprised too and I'm sure after next week (May 15th) there is going to be alot more movement so Good luck

woohoo! thats what we like to hear 🙂 keep us updated!

That's very exciting news. I actually just purchased a ticket to go apartment hunting in Wisconsin. :scared: I'm planning on holding out on signing a lease for as long as I can. Lets hope the Buffalo list continues to move at this speed.

gator -- how long are you planning on holding off for? i have another option that begins july 31, so i need to find an apt there, but i also want to put it off as long as possible.... im thinking july 5th-ish? is that really reckless? i kind of feel like ill be forever away from school/in a crappy apt/in an outrageously expensive apartment.... oy! why doesnt mr rosso just jump the que and take us now!

I'm really struggling with the decision. I'm actually scheduled to work up until the 1st of July, so either way I'll be in NY until at least the first week of July. I'm planning on taking the trip out to Wisconsin in June to gather as much contact info as possible so that I have everything ready to go if it comes down to it. I'm on the bottom 1/3 at UB so luck is unfortunately not on my side. If I don't hear anything by July 5th, I'm off to Wisconsin.

45%?

I can just see Mr. Rosso in his office pulling up Excel spreadsheets. "Well, according to the data from previous years' my forecast shows that you have a 30.5884% chance of acceptance by July 5, a 39.5791% chance of acceptance by July 20, and a 45.3326% of acceptance by July 31."

I highly doubt it Kaz! I was about to ask where that number came from, but I thought i'd better let that one go. I think he might have meant I was 45% up from the bottom of the list?? Aside, I see you're located in Rochacha, I was a yellow jacket. How are you enjoying the local?

I generally like Rochester. The winters are so depressing though. That would probably be the number 1 obstacle to me going to Buffalo, because otherwise I really love the school.

Anyone get any updates on how UB's waitlist is moving? The wait is killing me!

Yeah, which one of you was tying up the phone around 2:30? I tried to call and the lady said that Mr. Rosso was on the phone and had someone else on hold.

Spill the waitlist news people!

I got in off the waitlist on 4/27 (My birthday!) and was very surprised having gotten the letter about having the offical ranked waitlist just a few days before. But I have no idea where I was originally ranked on the waitlist! And I'm an out of stater and have no idea if there are different waitlists for in state and out of state...

But by way of hope for some people, I would actually like to stay closer to home in Baltimore, so if someone wants to trade me a temple acceptance and a little financial aid... 😉

If you like Wisconsin, I have an MCW acceptance ready to be traded. Not sure yet about my aid package, but I'd gladly offer a nice trade-in bonus. Shoot, I'll even through in my car – do you like Infiniti's? 😉 😀

Oooh, what kind of Infiniti?

I haven't gotten my snail-mail letter yet, but based on the website info...

I just got accepted~~~ 😍

I hope that info is correct... but I'm going to wait until I get that letter in hand before I really celebrate... 🙂

Good luck to everyone on the list...

Congrats StLTurbo! I keep checking my status everyday but no change. 🙁

Do you have any idea where you were on the waitlist before they accepted you?

Hmm, maybe for a G35 Coupe 😉.

I'm dreaming of the day that I own a Subaru WRX STI 😍.

Or maybe a Nissan 350Z Roadster.

Yes, yes I am Asian.

Yeah, I'm pretty much in love with the Z, and I'd kill for a G35 coupe. If I wasn't planning on going back to school this fall I'd defiantly be driving the coupe. Nevertheless, I love my G20t and she'll have to do for now. 😉

*Just a quick update on the waitlist – I just got off the phone with Mr. Rosso and it seems that some of you may have been mistaken. He just informed me that they are currently in the middle of the upper 1/3, not in the middle 1/3 like some of you have suggested. 😕 Darn. Sorry if I just ruined anyone's day.*
