Texas A&M c/o 2019 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i know in previous years from the website there have been up to like 25 OOS applicants and about half get offered a seat. i'm sure not all take it either since they probably have good grades to get in IS school

Does anyone know how many total people they interviewed (IS and OOS)?

At the interview, I was told there were 580 applications and that 225 of us were given interviews. (I have no idea if this included OOS applicants because they seemed to be considered against each other rather than against us. Then again, the woman running the interview did say that OOS applicants were also compared to IS applicants and that OOS seats could be given to IS applicants if they felt that was best...)

We were also told that A&M has the least OOS seats (both in seats given to OOS applicants by year and total seats available even if not given to OOS applicants) if that helps any?

Not sure of the exact number for this cycle, but they historically interview around 220, total.

Whoops. Way too slow this morning. I need more sleep...

Also, hope this is the day that y'all hear some good news!

220 interviewed is what I was told too.

Also...Did anyone by chance confirm that letters went out yesterday? I'm thinking of calling to ask...

Yesterday was President's day so I can tell you for sure no letters went out :/. Texas A&M is notorious for not giving us three day weekends 😉

I do have to say the more I think about it the more I want to stay in this blissful ignorance land just a little while longer. You know post-interview excitement but still waiting for an answer? Lol, maybe it's just me but I'm not looking forward to long trips to the mailbox haha

I think what someone was saying was that they would be put in the mail yesterday so they'd actually be shipped today. But who knows if that'll actually happen.

I definitely wish I had your ability to be ok with uncertainty haha!

Oh. Very true! that makes sense. Haha don't get me wrong, I am definitely ready for a decision but I'm also ok with staying in Limbo just a little bit longer. It is frustrating though to see a lot of schools sending out admission decisions almost two weeks after they hold interviews. TAMU has always been one of the longer processes. No one believes me when I tell them it's basically a year long process. Applications open in May, due in October, Interview decisions in December, Interviews in January and usually don't hear back until about March, and then depending on your status it could be almost August before you get a final decision. They enjoy torturing us....

You're much braver than I am. I want to know so badly, but then again, I don't have to cry about anything right now so that's nice too haha!

I wonder if anymore OOS people have heard????? Usually that's a good reference of when IS people should hear anything.....I've already told my roommates no one is allowed to check the mail but me until I find out!

We need to find whatever little birdies were flying around in the past few weeks giving good information and politely ask them to sing to us again.

I'm with @LivesintheLibrary. I prefer a good old fashioned staring contest with a mailbox. My e-mail alerts pop up on my phone and not only good I be accepted/rejected, quite possibly may need to purchase new electronic devices.

how did you hear about the email?? from the same person in the office?

I doubt there will be an email, A&M has always been very adamant about snail mail. I don't remember who posted that, but maybe they have the inside knowledge-you just have to know the right little birdies

As much as I would love to hear news sooner rather than later, this does seem a bit early for admission decisions. I think A&M is adamant about snail mail because they send quite the bit of paperwork in the acceptance envelopes (I've seen many of my friends when they got their's) and maybe they're afraid if they send the e-mail we won't look past the Congratulations!

I am the one that heard about the email. The person I talked to today said there might be an email sent out. I asked her when that would be and she put me on hold and asked someone else. She came to the conclusion that she was not sure when an email might be sent out. She wasn't clear on what the email would include. The email might be sent out at a later date to just make sure everyone got their letters but I don't really know. I heard that the letters went out today at 1:30pm.

Wow this is so early! That means those of us who are local could hear back as soon as tomorrow. Has anyone applied anywhere else? I feel like the acceptances came rolling in today for other schools. I only applied to TAMU this round, but if it doesn't work out I'm hoping to look elsewhere the next cycle!

I applied to two others, one doesn't interview so I heard from them in December, the other only had two interview days and the second was Saturday so they said we should hear by the end of the month. Basically I chose the schools with the longest cycles, but learning to wait has been good haha- it is hard though because a lot of my friends have been accepted to schools so it's easy to get impatient. We're almost there!

If you don't mind me asking, did you get accepted to the one you heard from in December @LivesintheLibrary ? I know Texas A&M is very competitive. I know several people who didn't get offered interviews here, but interviewed elsewhere and some have already received acceptances as well.

It's fine! I didn't, but it was my long shot and I had very low expectations for getting in. It all depends on how everything is weighted by the school. That school weighted things differently than the other two, which seem to choose applicants with stats similar to mine (or at least I hope so). I originally had a list of nearly ten schools in the beginning, but I kept combing through my list for the programs that I felt like were the best fit for me if I was lucky enough to be accepted. I have multiple friends however, that weren't invited to interview at A&M, but because they had profiles similar to what other schools wanted, were accepted there and are very happy with the outcome. Just like choosing an undergraduate school that fits you, I approached vet school with the same attitude (although it is hard to get in anywhere) and that's how I decided where to apply. I know supplemental applications can be tedious, but the ones with multiple essays can actually be your best friend because they can bring you to life on paper, so if you do have to apply again don't let that discourage you. I hope you get into school here though and I'm hoping for good news for everyone on SDN. Just seeing that other people are going through this process with the same joys, frustrations, and emotions that I am has really helped me stay focused. Yall are awesome!

For those of you in Bryan/College Station, you should receive decisions today. For my cycle, they mailed Thursday and I got my packet Friday at 3pm. As much as school is sucking right now, I'm still happy to be here. Hope y'all can all say the same this time next year. 😉

Currently not focusing in my physiology 2 class and wondering how I'm going to get through a 7 hour shift at the clinic. It's a good thing my mail doesn't get to my house until after 5

For anyone who receives less than stellar news, feel free to message me. I'm a third time applicant and I know the struggles of not getting in all too well. Its hard now, but I promise you it is worth it to try again and try again.

CONGRATULATIONS FELLOW AGGIE COLLEAGUES! Y'all are going to love TAMU CVM, I guarantee it! I can't wait to see y'all in the fall.
