Texas A&M c/o 2019 applicants

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Good luck to you, too! I hope we both get in. I wonder how they choose which list to draw from when someone declines?

I think they have the out of state people that accept or decline and the in state that accept or decline. If you are an OOS then if an OOS declines they go to that list. I am on the IS list so if an IS declines, then they go to that list.

Dang. I got rejected but definitely try again next cycle.

So.... has anyone received anything in the mail in CS? Interested to see what all this big packet includes.

Congrats everyone! Ahh Im so excited to start this fall! I need to stop stalking craigs list looking at all the nice houses and dreaming of warmer weather than New England...its making classes very difficult to focus on haha cant wait to meet everyone! :soexcited:

Congrats to everyone who was accepted today! I am number 8 on the wait list (IS), so hoping that they make it at least that far this year. I know that last year they made it all the way to 14 on the wait list, so stay optimistic fellow wait listers!

Evidently they usually make it down around number 10 or so every year.

I have emailed admissions about whether or not there are two separate wait list for IS/OOS. Ill be sure to post the results of that inquiry as soon as I find out.

Congrats again if you were accepted today and good luck to all my fellow wait listers!

CONGRATS TO ALL ACCEPTED!!

I am currently Alternate #5, so I hope I find out soon if I'll get in.

I think April 15th is the deadline for veterinary students to announce their decisions, so another 2 months of waiting! :highfive:

It's sunny and 65 here in Houston today...which is only an hour from CS 🙂

That sounds so nice right now! I torture myself everyday looking at the CS weather on my phone. Today it was 30 degrees here, which everyone was excited about since its been in the negatives recently 😵

No packet in the mail but I am holding tight onto my acceptance e-mail! Gahhhh I was so ready to fish through the packet.....will have to wait until tomorrow I suppose. I hate being on the outer limits of the city sometimes, our mail is so unpredictable

Wow, so many acceptances for the SDNers! Awesome! 😀 There's no Facebook page yet, I think. A lot of us were surprised to hear that y'all got e-mail decisions! That's a first! I think our class officers are in charge of making the page, so as soon as I know something, I'll make a post...unless someone higher up beats me to it!

Also, also... I'm going to be looking at 2/2 or 2/1 duplexes for the next school year. I'm currently living in Bryan, about 3 minutes from the vet school, and it's been awesome...but my apartment is more than I'd like to spend since it's a 1/1. If anyone is interested in rooming with a pretty chillax future 2VM (AKA me!), shoot me a message and I'll let you know what I've found. The duplexes I'm looking at don't have breed restrictions (except for maybe Pitties), have a backyard, are in the same area of Bryan and distance to the vet school from where I am now and would run about $325-375/mo for rent per person. Utilities are 40% cheaper in Bryan. I spend about $40/mo on electricity and $18/mo on water, to give y'all some ideas.

Again, congrats everyone! For those that didn't make it this year, don't fret! Be sure to do a file review when they become available and come back next year better than ever! :highfive:

I had my packet sent to my permanent address 2 hours away and it came today do hopefully yours will come soon!

I got mine today!!!!! Next question......where is the cheapest place to get rabies???? 645 seems a little ridiculous, albeit I can believe it.

Ah man!!! I am so jealous! Still haven't received my packet 🙁 Hopefully tomorrow...

Also, I've been trying to figure out the rabies thing, and if A&M is offering it for $645, I'd say that's a steal. The cheapest I've found around Houston is $795 for the series (plus admin/consult fee). Most places are at least $900 base price for the series 😢

I just rebumped the thread about rabies, so hopefully some people will give us some good info

I will say that I had to get rabies for an exposure on my farm and the whole deal was not only expensive (~$1000) but it was not covered under my insurance (filing was a pain in the ass) AND it was absolutely difficult to find someone to actually give it. Eventually we ended up just going to an Urgent Care that we knew had already given the shots to another person before us and knew the process (of course, this is for exposure with the IgG and all that, so finding someone might not be an issue).

I haven't got my packet yet, but I hope it comes along soon!

I wish they would make our Facebook page!!!! Its only feb but I'm so ready haha.

Also for current TAMU students....if my pre-requisites are long completed (I'm in grad school) Do you think Q-dropping a course that is completely unnecessary will be reflected poorly? I don't want to risk my acceptance but I also don't want to take an unnecessary course....

Mail came today and still no packet...I'm so jealous of those who got theirs! I keep re-reading my email just to make sure I didn't imagine it. Anyone else still waiting on a packet? I'm in houston...

Harumph. I only live 1.5 hours from College Station. I wonder what's taking so long... :depressed:

Thanks guys...I'm just getting antsy! I wanna know its mysterious contents 🙂 And make sure they didn't send me the wrong email by accident haha :wideyed:

I'd say if you don't see it in the mail tonight or tomorrow then it might be worth giving the office a call on Monday.

Yeah. I called them today actually after I checked the mail, and the girl said to let them know if I haven't gotten anything by next week. I've gotten all the mail they've sent me so far, but I live on a "1/2" street so sometimes we do have issues. Stupid made up street names...grumble grumble...

I am currently looking for a place to live and I would be interested in meeting you and discussing living options please!!! 🙂 I just found out I got accepted and I'm trying to make sure I get all my bases covered.

I have read and reread the information in the packet. I think I am too excited and can't slow down enough to get a good grasp on everything it includes. I think I am missing something huge.... does any one know how much the deposit is?

Sweet! I'm going to look at 2 places tomorrow. I will send you a private message and report my findings. 🙂

Don't know how to multiquote on my phone! There shouldn't be a deposit. At least, there hasn't been one in the past!

It seemed a little good to be true because I thought all schools had a deposit. I couldn't find the info anywhere and it made me feel crazy. Thanks epivet.

@Txvethopeful0913 I would call/email them and ask about Q- dropping. I would think it would be okay, but better safe than sorry.

Anyone else wondering why they don't require anatomy as a pre-req instead of having the anatomy workshop for a select few?

Good luck to all of my fellow waitlisters as well! I am so hopeful we will hear something soon. Congratulations to all those accepted! Is there anything in the packet that we on the waiting list should start preparing for? I already have my rabies so that is not an issue. Anything else?

Does anyone from the College Station area know any good apartment complexes that I could find a pet friendly one bedroom apartment? Any I should definitely stay away from?

If you hit the post and then hit more it will bring up the multi quote option- it took me a while to figure out too!

Epivetlove from your post a few days ago, I know of somewhere that may fit the bill for what you were looking for. Feel free to pm me.

I did my undergraduate here so if yall have questions about housing or other things feel free to let me know!

congrats guys, I declined and will be going to Mississippi. Hopefully one of you lucky people got off the in state alternate list. Enjoy becoming a veterinarian!!!

Got it now! Thanks! 🙂 Also PM'ed you.

Most places are good, I think. The main problem I ran into is finding a place that would accept my dog. He's a Doberman...so...a common breed restriction and weight restriction. A lot of places had a 25-35 lb. weight limit. 🙁 I really like my current complex, but as I mentioned earlier, it's more than I want to spend if I can find something cheaper (i.e. live with more people). Definitely hoping to stay in Bryan, though.

Wait, so, you declined your acceptance to A&M?

So I may be biased, but the undergraduate Anatomy offered to BIMS and some Animal Science majors at TAMU is very unique compared to how other schools design their anatomy classes. At least that is what I was told when I took it back in 2012. It wouldn't be fair to require it as a pre-req just because it is a uniquely designed class. It is very similar to the first semester of vet anatomy, just a slower pace and not quite as much is covered.

Good luck in Mississippi! And thank you for declining A&M promptly, I know all of us waitlisters really appreciate it 🙂

On a previous note, I contacted admissions on Friday and it turns out there are two waitlists. One for IS and one for OOS.

I assume this means that when an IS/OOS candidate declines or defers then the next person on that respective list gets their spot.

I am curious though, what happens to the other out of state spots if perhaps (although very unlikely) all the OOS candidates decline their spot (including those waitlisted)?

One can only dream..... 😛

I would think they'd start drawing from the IS list if the OOS list is exhausted. If you have space, why not fill it with qualified applicants (which everyone on the waitlist definitely is)? Makes sense to me.
