I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between the two schools, and i don't think Houston will be open when I'm on winter break to visit it again. So any opinions are welcomed.

Add of right now I don't want to specialize.

What city do you want to live in? That's your answer.

Well I'm from Dallas, but I'm willing to move.

Do you think facilities really play a role in your happiness during dental school? Because I really liked Houston's.

Should i go based on what I desire to learn? Because I want a lot of clinical knowledge like at baylor.

Should I go from how I felt at my interviews?

Should I start around family and friends? I'm just a little torn between everything and would like to know what motivated people to choose the schools they did.

- If family is a big factor to you, consider that.
- Houston have plastinated cadaver, so you dont have to go through dissection for gross lab anymore, if that something you might wanna think
- A&M is a maze to me. Houston is brighter (a little bias, sorry)
- They are both in the big cities, so do you like that?
- Living expense? Which city is cheaper?

You will be a competent dentist regardless of wether you attend A&M or Houston. They're both great schools and you can't go wrong with picking either one of them. I really don't think happiness is correlated with how new or fancy the schools facilities are lol.

I'm indifferent about the plastinated cadevers for gross, so that one child go either way for me

I agree AM was pretty confusing when I was there as well, and I did like Houston's campus a lot more (windows).

Carbohydrates, have you ever regretted your decision to go to Houston? You don't need to give me a specific reason, or you could pm if there is one, but I'd really appreciate if you responded to that

No, Also, TAMU Dallas is opening a new clinic at the end of 2019/beginning of 2020 (so most of your clinical years should be in new facilities). As a D1, I can tell you that happiness in dental school will be be based on YOU and YOUR PEERS. Everyone here at Baylor is very welcoming and almost nobody is cut-throat. Even the best performing students share their notes and outlines so that we can all succeed.

Both schools give a great education. I'm not sure what you mean by this. Baylor's NBME part 1 pass rate has been 100% and 99%, so yes they have very strong didactic here. Clinics are even stronger.

Should I go from how I felt at my interviews?
I didn't care.

Should I start around family and friends?
Being surrounded by family and friends is always a plus. It's important to have a good support group. I will say from my observation this year that the people who are doing the best have very good support groups.

I will tell you why I chose TAMU. I wanted to get the best education. I wanted to be the best dentist I could be and I felt that Baylor/TAMU was the place to do that. I will tell you that out of all three Texas schools, Baylor students have the best reputation of being the most prepared graduates. This is not by random chance, but because we have more experience (more clinical requirements)

I wish we had plastinated cadavers like Houston but other than that no.

@Carbohydrates aww you're making me tear up.😳

haha I actually prefer the real cadaver, but I've also heard nothing negative about the plastinated ones either
I did two years of dissection, and I love every bits of it.
But the thing with real cadaver is that there are certain structures that you can't see, while with the plastinated models are cut in the way so that all the structures are there. So you dont have be like "assuming that there is a nerve there cause we accidentally cut it away"

That must save so much time... I had two disssection masters in my group who were very meticulous and we still didn't always find everything.

Do you have the option of living at home?? If you do, there's your answer. That's huge.

If you can live at home, stay in Dallas. The amount you save in living expenses over 4 years justifies the decision.

I do, but I won't be taking it :/ my girlfriend and I will be moving in with eachother at the start of school
Ok, then the city you two will live in is something both of you need to look in to further. I'm thinking Dallas because you can go back to your parents house to get free food 😎

I second schmoob. I chose my school based on being able to commute from home. Nothing beats being able to escape from the stressful atmosphere of D-school and seeing familiar faces after a difficult day. And Baylor produces excellent general dentists, especially considering the fact that you are not interesting in specializing atm. I vote for Baylor.
