I don't know Jota, it seems to me that if one school offers a lot of pre-match acceptances, then all the schools will have too. I posted earlier that Filo told my interview group that the schools would get together and discuss how they were going to do it. Maybe if someone that has heard anything recently at an interview wants to post that information we could get a better idea.

I also disagree, unless a prematch offer comes with a merit scholarship, it won't effect an applicant's final ranking of the schools.

Well stated Jota. But I do believe that the schools working together is in their best interest and I think they know this too. That why they are all part of TMDSAS. Collusion is always the best course for business, but I admit not always followed. I guess we'll know the week of November 15th.

First off, I'm not sure what you mean about working together. You might be implying (because you use the word collusion) that they will share information about specific applicants, and there is NO WAY that this is going to happen. ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY NO WAY. It might even be illegal.

Ask yourself this: Would it change my opinion/ranking of a school(s) if one of them gave me an offer early? If you really want to go to UT-H, but UT-H doesn't give many pre-match offers, and you, instead get an offer from A&M, you're just going to sit on the offer from A&M, rank UT-H first in the match (because you can't lose your A&M offer by doing so) and see what happens. Getting the early offer from A&M isn't going to make you like them more. If UT-H acted the same as A&M, and made you a pre-match offer, you'd just accept that offer and dump the A&M one. Since presumably you'd match to UT-H (in the first scenario,) the outcome is the same. Again, I see clear value for applicants to potentially gain acceptance to their first choice early, but to schools, the only [dubious] value is that they only know who WON'T be attending their school a bit earlier. I think that this is why MOST schools were AGAINST the new rolling admissions policy.

But, yeah, it will be interesting to see what will happen come Nov. 15, since we are the guinea pigs.

guinea pigs for what?

TMSDAS is telling me 3-4 wks for processing...I submitted my app to them on 10/11...my secondaries I turned in yday...I'm a little worried I don't have much of a chance b/c of how late I'm into the process...my scores are only decent (PS 11, V 9, BS 9 --> 29) and 3.74 overall gpa in Elec. Engr'ing...also, all my lower div. prereqs are from AP courses and upper divs. are from comm. college (had to take fast track courses to take up a job)...I'm taking biochem and genetics right now at UT-Austin so hopefully that will vouch for me being able to handle the upper div. courses. I know there are a lot of other things that matter on the app, but purely based on numbers, my major, and how late I'm applying, do I have a decent shot at an interview? Thanks.

If you get an interview, I would be shocked. I would plan on setting something up for next year and plan to have your application turned in before June. If you do this, you will be set and get interviews to just about every Texas medical school. Good luck, I hope you get an interview this year, but with how late you are, I really do not think that you will.

Don't be a jerk. Just let him apply and see what happens. It ain't over til it's over.

ahhhhh when will august mcaters get some interview lovin' from the Texas schools?🙁

Hello all,

I am new to this subforum (I have been hanging around the MCAT forum throughout this past summer). I was wondering if someone in the proces of the Texas apps could give me some insight into admission at BCM and UTSW. While I understand that nothing short of a 40 on the MCAT can guarantee admission to either of these places, what would be a reasonable score to hope for an acceptance (I ask this so I can decide if I should retake or not.) I am a Texas resident and am currently attending UT-Austin.

Thanks in advance for your help!😍

For the record, not even a 40+ score guarantees an acceptance. 🙂

I'm curious about this too, except what score is decent for an interview at BCM, assuming that EC's and GPA are decent.

Agree with Anastasis, I can only comment with regard to UTSW since I was too lazy and sick of aps to AMCAS it up.

UTSW does concern itself a little more with numbers than the other texas schools in that they seem to grant automatic interviews to people with certain stats, it isn't clear how high they have to be though (some others may have insight on this). I think their avg is in the range of 33.

Hey folks. About slamming people with low MCAT's... (incidently I belong to this apparent sub-population with a 25 S) These are some interesting figures about the 2005 matriculants you should see. MCAT is obviously important, but keep it in perspective. I was particularly amazed to see that 63 people were accepted with scores of 22-23.

It is not likely but certainly possible that you can get in with less than a stellar MCAT. I agree that people with lower scores like myself should consider retaking (I'm already preparing). However I would not discourage anyone from applying based solely on their score.

It always amazes me about those stats that people with 35+ have worse odds than the interval below them; what's up with that?

Don't you figure they went to Baylor or X top 20 school so maybe it is not a case of them being passed over for an acceptance but rather a case of them attending a higher ranked school out of state or Baylor?

Just a thought.

Either way, I wish I had those hard decisions to make.

You're right, since they only release matriculation data.

Yep, collusion is illegal - in business as well; there are laws that prohibit such behavior in business such as anti trust laws.

NOTHING can guarantee admission to either of these places.

I wasn't talking about collusion in the business sense so much as the sharing/trading acceptances of applicants as I believe was being implied. Illegal or not, it's just not going to happen.

collusion is illegal if you have a monopoly. i am referring to collusion as business owners getting together and discussing how to operate together so its in their best interest (probably not the best choice of words). nothing illegal about that. that is why you have organizations i.e. flooring association. and i was'nt suggesting that the schools would talk about specific applicants. just if they were going to offer a lot or a little number of early acceptances. i'm hard headed so i stand behind my presumption that they will offer a lot of early acceptances, but i'm wrong a lot.

First off, by definition, there can be no collusion if you are a monopoly.

Second, I read too much into what you were saying. I, too, stand by my belief that schools aren't going to coordinate their admissions policies with each other. These are state schools with too much bureaucracy for that to happen.

Third, I hope that you are right (everyone sends out LOTS of pre-match offers) and I am wrong 🙂

In regards to rolling admissions at A&M, I was fortunate enough to attened a PRE-sentation (joke for a fellow sdner) by the dean of A&M med school this evening. He said they are not sure how many seats they will offer pre-match and that they will have that meeting in 10 days. He did say that they would either try to fill their entire class during rolling admissions or only offer acceptances to their top 50.

In my opinoin, this rolling admissions will only add to our already anxious, nervous, and frustated states. Except for that 3-5% of applicants.

Good Luck Everyone!!

I really don't want to have to wait till Feb 15 for an offer. 😱

Argh! A&M usually hands out 300+ acceptances, IIRC, so if they only do the top 50 thing, then that is a small fraction of the incoming class, indeed. I also wonder if by "fill the entire class" they really mean 100 offers.

It's looking more and more to me like that will be that case, and this whole rolling admissions deal isn't going to make things much different than previous years. Again, hopefully I am wrong.

NOTHING can guarantee admission to either of these places.
while the poster you responded to cannot proceed down this path anymore, BCM has multiple programs that guarantee entering college students a seat at BCM after obtaining their undergrad degree. UTH also has the early acceptance program. so technically, you can be guaranteed admission to some places.

GUYS apply to Florida schools, we need more competition, life if no fun without Texans competing here. After all Florida vote puts Texans in white house. University of Miami is bending over backwards to get out of state students, while ignoring to interview Florida students.

So TX schools are obviously nice because of the relatively cheap tuition... do you guys think when applying to OOS med schools, they look at your TX residency and go "psssh dont waste time with them, they'll just go back home to cheapo TX"?

WTF? You say it is OOS friendly, but you need a 3.6+ (post-bac and graduate GPA are NOT considered in this) to get a secondary? I had heard good things about Miami, but it seems that they are NOT OOS friendly based upon that secondary GPA cutoff of 3.6. From:

Nah, I think lots of Texans go OOS to top-10 schools (and otherwise) each year. But I didn't apply OOS, so I'm just guessing.

There are advantages also in going out of state. Of the two schools I have interviewed at so far, vanderbilt and A&M, I'll go to whichever one offers me an acceptance first and I'll keep going to interviews until I get an acceptance. So if Vandy accepts me then I'll accept their offer and withdraw from all over schools including the ones I'll be interviewing at or have interviewed at. Likewise if A&M offers me a seat then I'll do the same. I can't afford to be picky and I just want to know where I'm going to end up.

This is my second time around applying and I recommend to all texans to apply to out of state schools also.

Any non-residents hear anything from Texas schools yet? The "official" acceptances thread has nothing listed from Texas schools

im getting the feeling this whole "we are gonna start admitting oos people on oct.15 " routine was a calculated attempt to make people like me waste their lives checking their email every 3 minutes. more and more, im thinkin that they are probably gonna follow close to the same timeline they did last year, regardless of what their stated "new" policy is.

From SDN, I have heard of 2. Someone posted on this thread about 2 days ago that they were accepted to TCOM, and someone posted on another thread that they were accepted to UT-H.

It's ROLLING admissions, all they said was that you may hear from them anytime after Oct. 15.

heheh...please allow a man to vent, dear sir 😉

anyone know how they notify people with acceptances? email? or snail mail??

So A&M will not give acceptance until 11/15, both IS and OOS? thanks

YAY MY FIRST INTERVIEW: Texas Tech (i'm an august mcater)

Yup! Then it sends you to a link where you can choose which interview date.

Has anyone done the clinical rounds at Southwestern that's offered to applicants? And if so, what was the day like?

Seriously. Do you have an mdapps page?

Haha...I think it's only because i have been complete for over a month! MCAT is ok...only because my other scores were 8-9 points lower. My mdapplicant profile is #6777...I just did it so I haven't really expanded on any of my EC's

My app got verified today. When should i expect an interview offer.

If you have a strong MCAT GPA you'll probably hear from SW tommorow and the others will come seemingly at random.

If you aren't stat heavy enough for automatic, they'll all come pretty much at random.
