Yah, well, we'll see after 4 years of medical school <sigh>. It's not as tough as derm, though.

It's completely within grasp. You are involved in research and if you keep that up in med school you are even more competitive. I have a friend who graduated from Tufts MD/PhD who is now doing rad-onc at Tufts. Research was a big selling point. Go for it.

I read that TCOM is sending out rejections. Does this mean that we could possibly get rejected from other schools before the results of the match?

I think that they're sending out letters to those who either didn't complete their application or didn't receive an interview. As far as I know, the other schools wait until after the match to send the letters. I seriously doubt that the schools one ranked would send rejection letters yet, as this would give hints about where that person matched.

waiting for my UT-Houston rejection 🙁 ...would have been my #1 😡 🙁

Will we get rejection letters from the Texas schools that did not invite us to an interview? I certainly hope so...This whole application process has been like being in a bad relationship, and I just want some closure! 🙁

You don't need a letter. If you didn't get an interview at a school, then you are officially rejected. If you want, I can send you a rejection pm and you can send me some also. (BOOOOOOOOOOO UTH and UTGal 👎 )

Forensic pathology

I'm interested in forensic pathology too......interviewers look at me like I'm crazy when I say that.

I am applying like you, but if you have not taken biochem I would STRONGLY advise at least auditing if not taking it (like p/f or something to ensure that you do some active learning). This course is very important for medicine and by seeing it before med school it will only make the course somewhat easier when you are in med school.
Discussion at a recent TX interview...
Interviewer: So, which class do you think will be the most difficult for you in medical school?
Me: Probably pharmacology, since I've never taken it.
Interviewer: How do you know it will be difficult if you've never had it? I believe that biochem will be your most difficult course?
Me: Really? Why?
Interviewer: Because you did so poorly in that class as an undergraduate.
Me: I thought I did fairly well - I earned a "B+"
Interviewer (looking quickly over transcript): Really? Oh! I must be mistaking you with another applicant.
Next question...

Thanks for the letter dog

No problem JDAD, thank you too.

Does anyone else need a rejection letter? I will hook you up. It is therapeutic for me to write them. The healing starts here!

Isn't is sad how we all want to go into very competitive fields of medicine? Notice how no one said internal medicine or pediatrics....

I am only avoiding these fields b/c several doctors in both IM and peds told me to "get out of medicine while you still can!" They almost turned me competely away from medicine into optometry!

That's pretty funny. I have refrained from posting mine yet because from everything I understand, regardless of the amount of exposure to medicine, it is HIGHLY likely that you will not go into the field that you think you will when you enter medicine. With that said, as of now, I am by far most interested in....peds!! Despite all the crap associated with it and the "low" salary scale, my love for kids and wanting to help them feel better is a very strong motivation for me.

So true. Hey, we can dream, huh?

Use your dreams as your guide and use your heart to decide!

If you really fall in love with a field, then let that motivate you to accomplish what needs be done to achieve it!

My rents are pediatricians! 😡 (actually they told me the same thing...j/k...but I'm thinking podiatry instead of optometry)

Don't forget that you are talking to the SDN crowd. If anyone is going to get into these specialties, I would be willing to bet that it will be those who obsess over validation dates and LMFU's.

I said anesthesiology earlier, but I'm also interested in family medicine. I don't really know, and like jdovez, I'm sure I'll change my mind in medskool.

People concerned about rejection letters: last year I didn't get any rejection letters until after the match, even from schools that didn't interview me. Not that I needed a letter to know that I was rejected. Oh an not all schools sent rejection letters (don't remember which ones). Waitlist letters came about a month or later after the match.

Nothing man...anyone have an LMFU later than 1/17?

mine still reads...

RCW: 010305
LMFU: 011505
Validation: 000000

my LMFU still 12/14/04

and im thinking.....Ob-gyn, or infectious disease (weird combo, i know).

i actually have a question for you guys. I applied to only MD programs, but let's say suddenly my interest in research has peaked, and now I am contemplating getting a MD-PhD. Is it possible to still get into a school's MD-PhD program? Should I just email the MD-PhD director of whatever school I match at and see what they reccomend?

I agree........I have a very strong pull towards peds as well! That said, who knows what I will end up doing in the end. 😀

I'm in it strictly for the money, so I'm thinking peds right now. 🙂 After raising two boys of my own, it is hard thinking of something more satisfying than helping a child be well. Now dealing with the parents...that's another story!

RCW 09/28/04
LMFU 01/15/05
Validation 00000...

My RCW is 082304, LMFU is 011405, and validation is 000000.
My friend's LMFU is still 011005.

my LMFU is still 011005......very annoying!

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

my lmfu is still 120204. im going to make the assumption that this date is meaningless.

LMFU is still 1/10/05. Given that many applicants on here have great stats and no updated LMFU (i.e. IndyZX and others) I think it is pretty safe to say that none of these dates have anything to do with the match.

i like that assumption!

I just checked my file again and I totally misread it last week. I've got you all beat: my LMFU is 110504 (the day I put my final school preferences in). But my RCW and Validation are 010405. Which is odd, since i would have thought that RCW would affect the LMFU. Either the schools all rejected me flat out after the interviews or our musings are complete hogwash.

My LMFU is still 1/10/05...let's pray it has nothing to do with the match! 🙁

my lmfu was 1/10/05 too. What i was thinking is maybe if people changed their preferences after 1/10/05 maybe that's why they have a later lmfu date?>

just speculating omg 10 days left :scared:

ewwwwwwwwww

If the LMFU rule is true than most of us SDNers are out of the running...which doesn't make much sense.

I think we have nothing to worry about! Best of lluck all.

Looking at some of you guys mdapplicants pages I'm thinking having an LMFU of 011505 might not be a good thing 😱 Georgetown Special Masters Program in Physiology here I come!

Or hopefully it simply means nothing at all...

Well, I reconfirmed my prefs on 1/15 and it didn't change that date

  I don't think there is any correlation between these dates. Anyhow, atleast at the end of this cycle we'll have a definite answer for next years class as to whether they mean anything, as we have been very keen on tracking the dates. I don't see how so mnay great applicants would have no match, as they have an LMFU same as everyone elses.

I think that two possibilities are clearly happening:

1. The match program has already run & LMFU has nothing to do with the Match.
2. They haven't yet run the match and so no one's LMFU has changed.

Either way, it's almost over. A little over a week remains. 🙂

And in a week I'll know where I'll be moving to at the end of this summer. 😀

There are posts with examples of applicants from last year with an LMFU of 1/15 that DID match initially, and posts of those with an LMFU of 1/15 that DID NOT match initially. No one knows what's good and what's bad. I called TMDSAS again today to check one more time about validation dates. She told me she wanted to be perfectly clear about this.."the dates you see on your application are in no way related to the match. There is no way to read into them and decide whether you matched."

I think Evo is right on. Since even having a LMFU of 1/15 would be before they ran the match anyhow (as the deadline to deside on rankings was midnight 1/15), and since so many great applicants here have an update before 1/15, it seems obvious that none of these dates mean anthing. Plus, we have the word of TMDSAS staff, and that should count for something right? Can we trust them? :meanie:

what is lmfu and how can i find mine?

dcham said:

It's "Last Master File Update," found under Applicant Profile after you login to Applicant Preferences/Status. I promise, though, I think the post by MLewis is right; it probably doesn't mean anything in terms of the match.

dcham--it's Last Master File Update and you can find it by clicking on "Status of Application Documents" and then "Applicant Profile." It should be at the top of the page.

BTW, my LMFU is still 1/7/05.

Oh, and I didn't mean to imply that peds was a bad specialty or anything like that....I simply received bad impressions from the few pediatric ER docs that I talked to. For a long time, I was interested in pediatrics as well, and may regain my interest during my third year of medical school....

I'll play: at this point (and of course subject to change), I'm torn between heme/onc and surgery. 👍

I interviewed with a doctor at Tech that was a forensic pathologist. She was very nice and seemed really interested that I'm a forensic major. Oh, and I had to walk into the basement to find her office. The door to the suite of offices said "Morgue" so I was totally confused. 😛
