This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the info!

As for the UTSW, I did get the stuff in the mail from them about confirming the date and hotel info and directions. I read through it all and I'm pretty sure I didn't see anything about it. If you don't mind, would you send me info about staying w/a med student (like an email address or whatever it is to request) whenever you get a chance. It's not until November so don't rush. THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!! 😀

Hey Jess,

Sorry, just got home from work and saw that UTSW doens't have a stay with a med student thing. I must've gotten it confused with UTSA. Sorry... 😳

No problemo. 🙂

Me, too frogman! I have a feeling I will forget though. My fiance put the vaccuum on top of my suit and dusty crap got all over it....I guess it shouldn't have been on the floor though! 😳

Yah, it's easy to treat your suit "disrepsectfully." I recently cleaned mine at the dry cleaners b/c it had been dragged around to so many places. 🙂

I for one am always scared that they'll lose the suit....and I'll be forced to scramble last minute. :scared:

I hear ya on that one...Had my suit pressed overnight in Dallas for UTSW and they were TRES late getting it back to me. I thought I was late as it was, but then got rear ended by a Mexican National without insurance right outside Parkland...in my friends car. One light from the turn in for the parking lot! It was a pretty crappy start to the day, but all I could think about was how to tell my friend that I wrecked her car.... *sigh*

Oh no! 😱

And its such a handsome suit.... course, you probably look handsome in any suit. 😉

I can see you in wide, baby blue lapels. 😀

Awww, you're killing me. 😳

 I should do that for a joke sometime. See if it affects my chances of getting in. Maybe I should add the 70's-era chest ruffle?? Thoughts?

I'd go more for the open to the belly button shiny shirt... much classier.... 😀

All the students were so nice at the Bombay Bicycle Club--I definitely recommend going as well. This is also where I got to meet lane from SDN lol

yall might think it's really stupid but once you get into med school SDN can actually help a lot - before orientation all the SDN nerds :meanie: in my class met up so we wouldn't be starting classes without knowing anyone.

and it's nice getting to meet some of yall to put a face with a name 🙂

At my interviews I will print the SND logo (about 1"x1") and stick it in my name tag so that you people can recognize my SND nerdiness. 😀

Anyone else have UTMB this Fri?

Y'all get a room!!!

😀 Just kidding. 😀

'Sup Jess?

Pardon my obliviousness (is that a word?), but how do you two know each other again? 😀

I hear that UTH interview invites are more formula driven than other schools (numbers into a computer, above a certain score gets you an invite). Does anyone have any insight as to what the formula is or what kind of numbers would merit an interview?

aw. don't be jealous. 😀 But really, have you SEEN evo in a suit? 😀

I am just a weak willed woman....

Not sure if the rumor of UTH is correct. My stats until grad school were mediocre, and my MCAT score is just above average. My strengths lie in my experiences since graduating. I'm pretty sure they are taking a "whole candidate" perspective, since they let me interview.

and apparantly you evaded me as well. 🙁

Not true. I kept asking random interviewees, "Are you Jess?" No one claimed knowledge of such a person.

Of course, I was wearing a fetching creation: green leisure suit sans tie, a gold medallion, and a dead animal's worth of chest hair engulfing the medallion. 😀 😀 :meanie:

I think you were just avoiding me.

Who else is going to be at TAMU this week? Speak up or PM me! I'm pretty excited because I hear wonderful things about the school. Which is unusual considering I bleed orange. :horns:

Question for all of you... my application was processed and sent out on 9/29 and everything was complete. I was hoping to avoid the rush of all the August MCATers but today the MCAT scores were released. Do you think my application is going to be reviewed with the August MCATer's or will I have lucked out and be reviewed just before their's is reviewed.

That's a difficult question to answer, because every school is different. But, worst case scenario, even if your application has not been reviewed yet, you will be ahead of the August MCAT people in line to be reviewed by the adcom. If you look on the first page of this thread, I believe EvoDevo has a post where he breaks down the method of download for each school in Texas. So if a school is completely manual and doesn't electronically download your TMDSAS, it may take longer to get reviewed than other schools.

Good luck! :luck:

Hey guys,

I submitted my application way back in August, and it still isn't processed. I gave them at least six weeks to get the thing in before my august mcat came out.

Well, they are reviewing my residency and I am in the "problem" section. I now have my august scores, but the schools won't get them until TMDSAS sorts this out.

It is getting late.

I have scheduled a meeting with a Director of Admissions at a specific school in Texas and I am kind of excited about it. He says he will meet with me, set me up on a tour, and get some current med students to talk with me about their program. I am excited about this, but I am wondering if this is common. Can anyone just call up a med school and set up a "pre-interview" meeting? Do you think it is going to help my chances at this school?

I just got my mcat back and I did well enough to get into the school, I am just afraid there won't be any spots left when my app finaly goes through.

Venting..... Thanks

I have this friend at SFA and I think he is one of the brightest and hardest working people I have ever met. When I think about how dedicated he is, I don't think anybody deserves to go to med school and to become a doc more than him. In June, he told me his MCAT score - a 19!!! I study with him and he is sooo intelligent and he has gotten A's in almost everything - even with the tough guy for Organic at our school. Then I talk to him today and he will only say he's done worse on the Aug MCAT. I can't help but feel terrible for him and think that it is so unfair. I don't know what he's doing wrong...he even took the Princeton Review for the April MCAT.

I told him to not give up since SA even told us that they took someone with a 19. He has a 3.8 GPA from a few B's his first semester. I'm going keep praying for him.

Just wanted to share my (his) sad story so I could vent. 🙁

Seems like people did terrible on the August MCAT....and I even slightly considered retaking it.....

Roja is in NYC, I believe!

I'm pulling for your friend, Jess!

Anyway, it does seem like the August MCAT killed alot of people, I wonder what happened?? 😕 😕

I can imagine how difficult it would be to study in the summer when some of your friends are swimming, going to the beach, traveling around, and gernally being lazy 😎

I know someone like that too. She's smart, dedicated, and one of the most active and involved people on campus. Not only does she have plently of life experience and a great application, she's known that she's wanted to be a doctor since she was little. I feel so bad for her. She wouldn't tell me her score, but it was below a 20. I don't know how that's possible for someone like her. Maybe she's just a bad test taker and she was nervous? *sigh* The sad thing is I think that she'd make a great med student and future doctor, but I'm afraid that the schools won't even give her a chance.

is question #13 REQUIRED for the AM secondary?

did anyone just put "no" or a short sentence ...

this is the questions asking for any hardships one has encountered...

thanks

You could just put "Not applicable."

It's just not fair. I would give up any of my interviews for him...I definitely think he deserves it more than I do.

Well I'll be praying for him and your friend!

I'd would be SHOCKED to meet someone who would ACTUALLY give up their spot for someone else..weather they honestly thought the other person deserved it more than they did or not. Now I could see someone helping another person so that they BOTH had the same thing.

I know it sounds extreme but he deserves a spot more than anybody at my school. The fact is there is no way to actually give up a spot so no I would not actually give up my spot. We are close, not just acquaintances, so I would give up certain things for my closest friends if I had the chance. I know I didn't specify how close we were before. However, I'm trying to help him....don't know much what to do. He's already submitted, but I was telling him he should ask the prof we have for histology to write an additional letter after he tells him the circumstanes. The prof knows him well but wouldn't write a letter until after he has had histo. We're in the middle of it and he is at the top of the class. I guess everything will work out how it's supposed to.

Does Feb 1st seeml ke a million years away for anyone else. I wish there was even some small way we could know how the adcomms ranked us after interviews. This is worse than waiting for the april MCAT scores to come out. It can make a girl crazy 🙂
Anyways, I haven't posted in a while but congrats to all of the people who have been getting invites. It seems as though everyone is doing well. Hopefully we will all get into a school and can meet each other someday 🙂 Although it seems some of you have met at previous interviews.
