UT's chances for a BCS bowl are slim to none ever since Utah won. Aren't we playing mainly for pride and the Cotton or Holiday Bowl? ooOOooo 🙄 haha What a bummer.

Man I want to go to UT - Houston. I'll trade a UT - San Antonio (maybe)admission for a UT - Houston admission come Feb. 1st.

Ah, don't be so sure...there's a chance UT could jump Cal (and I hate Cal so much...seeing as I'm going to USC right now...no offense to any current Berkley students).

"Although Texas did not play on Saturday, the Longhorns narrowed the margin between themselves and California in the coaches' poll from 89 points to 39 points, despite Cal's 35-point victory. In the AP poll, the Bears' advantage dipped from 108 points to 90.

Who knows what prompted this significant turn of events, but all of a sudden, Texas is close enough to Cal in the BCS Standings that an impressive win over Texas A&M could possibly give the Horns hope of moving up one very important spot. COULD is not the same as WILL, but it's more of an opportunity than Texas thought it had a week ago."

Sorry aggies. It's gonna be a rout in Austin this Friday. Mack has class, so he won't run it up. :horns:

If cal beats s. miss, we'll play LSU or Georgia in the Cotton bowl.
If s. miss beats cal, we'll play Michigan in the Rose bowl.
There's an outside chance that if the pollsters give Texas more votes, we could be in the Rose bowl even if cal wins.

Either bowl game will be good for the program. The BCS is such a joke since two teams outside the top 10 (michigan and BC), Utah, and the ACC champ don't deserve to play.

ah, nice article. but as homer simpson says, "Hope leads to disappointment." 😎 i can't believe i just quoted homer simpson haha 😛 But okay, it's good to know that Texas still has a decent chance, though the aggies are still going to be hard to beat (even if they did lose to baylor  )

haha okay I'll bring it back to med school discussion... 😀 Golly gee whiz these schools are going to be hard to rank. When I had san antonio nearly two months ago, I didn't think another school could possible compare...now I'm just completely confused. I just interviewed at Houston and Tech and here's what I have to share =) :

I came into Houston with such reservation and apprehension but was geniunely impressed. I stayed at the Hilton for a whoppin $40 much thanks to priceline. =D I got lost in the area but was able to find my way after following people in suits. Be careful if you choose to do this though b/c there are also people interviewing for residencies and other things. =P My interviews were stellar, and the faculty, staff, and students were super. Also, there were a toooon of fellow longhorns there and most everyone was an August mcater too. Oh, I ran into someone I went to elementary and junior high with but had not seen for 10 years now.

Tech was a good experience. Interviews were awesome; one was particularly interesting but I'm going to try my best not to analyze it to death. haha =P. People in lubbock are super friendly, but I did get the general impression that though most people who ended up there are satisfied, it was not their top choice. I met shock827. What a small world - apparently, we've met before and have mutual friends.

UTMB isn't going to make things much easier either. So now I'm trying my best to remember my experiences but am just generally confused. =/

I keep flipping back and forth between TAMU and SA as my first choice. Decisions, decisions....

Are you really concerned about this?...I mean...we lost to Baylor... [hangs head in shame].

So, I was walking in the med center earlier and I walked past Ferid Murad, MD, PhD (a nobel laureate whose research led to the discovery of viagra) and he was smoking....BOO...don't these ppl know better? 👎 👎
It's always disappointing when I see leading figures in medicine and research smoking...<sigh>

Haha, I have a "thing" with smoking too. Not to offend any of you who smoke, but I think it's such a turn-off and I get headaches from inhaling the fumes. There are other ways to get high on life, right?

its particularly bad when someone that KNOWS better by researching cancer still smokes (an MD/PhD in my lab is such). Therefore, I feel it necessary to remind sed people to quit on a regular basis

Moi aussi! Then to top it off, UTSW blew me away this weekend!! I really thought SA would be #1, but the more I think about it, I think I could be really happy at A&M or SW too!!

I'm not hard to please, so I think whatever I decide upon or whereever I end up will be A-OK with me!!

BTW, it's just not the same without the frog in your avatar. I mean, your new avatar is cool, but you're the frog-man!!

Come on, we're all gonna die one day or another aren't we? Sorry, my friends are gonna kill me for saying that 🙂 I still smoke despite being told like every other day how bad it is for me. I'm gonna quit this month though, it will happen 🙂 Also puts out cigarette in glass of whiskey.

Hey, I love UTHSCSA...but I'm from San Antonio and I sorta get the sense my mom is only half kidding when she says if I get into San Antonio my family will move into a house with an apartment over the garage and I can live with them for free...

What'd you like the most about your time at San Antonio, Roja?

Man, I'm really excited about the game this year. Both teams are playing some exciting football (with the exceptions of Baylor and OU) and I hope that this one is "One for the Ages."

Of course, TX will prevail but thaen that's how these things go. 😉

I'm from SA, too!! The funny thing is that my mom tells me the same thing...I plan on getting married next year and she wants us to live with them. Talk about no privacy!

Where did you go to high school? I went to Madison!

Yeah, I think all of the schools are something else. Hard decisions.

As for the frog, he shall return. The Marine Corps flag is there to honor my fellow Marine's successful waging of the Battle of Fallujah. :horns:

Oh man, married and moving in...yeah that would be NO PRIVACY...I don't know why I thought my mother was bad

I went to Comm Arts which is a NISD magnet school out at Taft and then later a private school. Have you already interviewed in San Antonio?

Yeah, I interviewed in September. Even though I'm confused, I think I'll still rank it #1 since I love SA so much....it wouldn't require as much adjusting, you know? Plus, I LOVE the mexican food and the Spurs!! Good reasons to choose a med school, huh?

Evo-- 👍 That's cool...I think I can be patient and wait for the froggy's return!

8 - 2! 😀 It killed me to be in Los Angeles during last years playoffs...I was at a bar and...well it was bad... 🙁

September was a long time ago but by any chance do you remember your faculty interviewers?

I'm still waiting for a SA interview. I don't think I'll get one b/c it's getting rather late in the game...It's strange b/c I thought a lot of my personal experiences match what they are looking for...Oh well...

I had Misty Herod, she was a 4th year interviewer, and I had Dr. Burgardt (female) who is an ER doc. I couldn't really tell how I did with Dr. Burgardt because she hardly let me talk at all, but Misty let me know that according to the criteria they were supposed to check for as an interviewer, I was a perfect match! 😀 👍 When I was interviewing at Tech, it seemed like they were all saying they ranked SA #1 but didn't get it so my interview with Dr. B makes me a little worried.

Welcome to the club!

Anyway, pretty much any of the schools will do for me as well (though going to Lubbock would almost be like going to St. Louis distance-wise). That's what makes it so hard....to make it even more difficult, a lot of my interviews were early and I'm starting to forget, even though I took notes on each school. I guess it's better to like all the schools rather than not like any of them!

Can we get a countdown til Feb. 1 clock up in here?

I think a daily reminder of how much longer we have to endure this extraordinarily stressful process would be most helpful.

No, but really...I would like one.

I'll be the clock for this moment: 10 weeks. 5 hours. 6 minutes. 12 seconds

That seems like an eternity away!! This is worse than waiting for our MCAT scores!! 🙁

I interviewed with Dr. Burgardt too. She gave me a speech about how I should become a specialist in the future. She tried to persuade me into becoming a venomous snake specialist in the ER. I said okay, I will.
She was nice to me.

Well, look at it differently, Jess: when you got your MCAT score, you still had to WAIT for interviews, and then WAIT for an acceptance. At least this will be the last WAIT....until residency, haha! However, I must admit that this wait is much more climactic; receiving a good MCAT score is great, but gaining admission to medical school is just plain AWESOME!

But what if you only get on a WAITlist???? AAAAHHHHHHH! No more waiting! NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! 😱

Yeah she was nice, but she was a little preachy. She said I should become a specialist too unless I found some surgeon to marry and had 3 kids and yada yada yada. I told her I was engaged to a chemist and then she started telling me all the places he could work in SA. I hardly spoke 5 minutes so I was worried that she wouldn't be able to write anything about me to the ad com. Oh well. *shrugs shoulders*

AsianDoc and UTKB--Y'all are right...we are pretty close to the last wait for awhile. Either wait until Feb 1 or wait to get off a wait list. Did y'all notice that Tech does their waitlist alphabetically so they say don't send a LOI. My last name starts with a P!!! Well hopefully I will get a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd choice before Tech....I liked them, but liked SA, A&M and SW better.

i am having trouble ranking the schools also. My top 3 are A&M, UTSW, and UTMB. Nothing against the other schools. I haven't even visited UTSW yet either, so it might not be in my top 3 later on. After last year's experience, I am only hoping for an acceptance to ANY school +pity+ . But I think rejection has made me tougher, more humble, and more sure of what I want 👍.

USCtex- I pretty much loved everything about SA, with the exception of exams, but you know, you gotta take those damn things anywhere. I absolutely *loved* the faculty. the student body was great. everyone is really friendly. Most importantly, in retrospect, the level of professionalism and training is outstanding. no scutting.. the focus is really to make you the BEST doctor.. not the best scut monkey.

I intend to go back and teach, if they will have me.

Texas Tech said:
If you are placed on the alternate list, you will be notified. If you are selected from the alternate list, you will also be promptly notified.

Also, applicants are no longer ranked when placed on the alternate list, so where you sit on the list is simply alphabetically, by your last name. Applicants on alternate lists typically look very similar numerically wise, so selection from the alternate list is based very largely on the subjective evaluations (interviewer comments, letters of evaluation).

Thanks for the link! After reading it, it looks like they review everyone if they have a spot open up. It says the list isn't "ranked." It's just a list of names, in alphabetical order. I don't think it means they will pick the first person on the list whose last name starts with an A. That's the way I read it anyway....
