On the other hand, UTKB, I know that UTSW loves pre-meds from UT-Austin. I heard from one interviewer that UT-Austion graduates do really well at SWMED.

Yeah, I think they had like 30 Ut austinites in the class. ditto for rice students!

Yeah, one of my interviewers at TAMU said they give props to students from Rice, UT-Austin, and TAMU b/c they are more "competitive," as he put it. He said something about a Barron's guide when taking into consideration what school you're from.

argh this waiting sucks. I thought maybe application recieved means they are saying you aren't in, but it could mean they recieved the validated, formal application from TMDSAS after the match? (I am just hoping, begging, trying to be optimistic!) Argh I hate this. Oh,and it did change today for person that asked.

Thats a pretty good theory! I am validated, how about you all? It would make sense if validated = app recieved and intervied = 000000 validation date (& then this has nothing to do with the match! :meanie: )

I'm validated, and mine says interviewed.

I wish that was true. But, I am validated (1/17/05), but still "interviewed".

Can somebody PLEASE "FIGURE" UTSW out. I am getting really restless.

All of this speculation is crazy. Does anyone else have the image of an obnoxious gift recipient stuck in their mind - shaking the box, turning it around, estimating the size and weight trying to guess whats inside? If we were already in medical school, we'd probably try to CT scan or ultrasound it too! Loosing my marbles here...

 That is the best analogy I think possible to describe all of us.. I can only picture the 1500 or so of us sitting around and shaking a small box in complete frustration

Here, I added my MD apps so that you all could see my stats (and rest in astonishment that I recieved a UTSW interview at all!) Anyhow, maybe some of the other people with an application received on their status page would like to share. I will also ask some friends that are applying to check if they get on AIM.

Ahhh! Ahhh! AHHHHHH! You guys are freaking me out. My UTSW page says:

UT Southwestern
Application Status: Interviewed
Secondary Application: Received

*edit* What does it all mean?!

OK, so now I know that myself and 2 otehr people who have application recieved both have last names starting in "A".Perhaps soon everyones will change. Anyone with a last name later in alphabet have app recieved?

Alex, I'm surprised you didn't get an interview at UT San antonio since they spew all that crap about looking at the "whole applicant" when deciding.

Southwestern seems to emphasize GPA and MCAT scores since their averages are much higher than the other TX public schools. I don't have anything in my application that jumps out at you so I'm a little more worried about my avg numbers. You have a great story despite less than average numbers, so that helps you out a lot because you're memorable.

Someone from UTSW read through this thread the other day and noticed how everyone was spazzin out about the Tech status page, so they decided to do the same with their status page in order to have everyone talking about their school. yup. I think it's working.

😱
i lost my utsw info, am calling them, but no pick up
i ranked them #1

i think im a pretty mediocre applicant in comparsion to SW's averages, gpa = 3.56, mcat = 33; but gpa is lower due to freshman year only (~2.9!), so i've got my fingers crossed. we'll see what my status page says soon....

Any of you ever read any sort of medical narratives/journal type books...like "Complications". I'm a writing major and while I'm not sure this neuroses will make compelling reading I think I want to narrate this entire process from application to graduation in a book...not that it probably hasn't been done many times before probably but...

I have an idea about how to resolve this UTSW "crisis"....

Someone call the admissions office (and don't give them your name) and simply ask them what all this changing of statuses means.

Then post what they say on here so everybody will calm down (not that I'm one to talk 😉 )

:luck:

Any takers? I'd do it for you guys but I am at work and it's a long-distance call for me.

Who knows what these schools want! Its not like any of us wouldn't make perfectly reasonable doctors. There are just too many applicants for spots, thats all there is to it.

btw, have i mentioned that i <3 you guys??

😍 😍 😍

the fact that you guys know exactly what i am going through, and are probably the ONLY people in the world who understands EXACTLY how i feel right now, is completely priceless 🙂 🙂 🙂 i am so sick of "DID YOU HEAR YET?" and "OH, YOU'LL GET IN, DON'T WORRY!" neurotic as we all may be, you get me through my day, and sure as heck are going to be one of the greatest things about this upcoming week before the match, because as hard as they try, no one else just seems to be able to grasp how freaked out i am right now. 😍

I tried shooting an Ar-15 once. That thing was heavy! Didn't even hit the target. I wound up shooting a cute .22 revolver and my friend's .45, two guns which I could actually control, rather than the darn AR-15. My bf just loved shooting it though!!! Boys... 🙄
AR-15s rock. I can easily put a round through a man's (target's) head from 500 meters with one of them, no scope. And it's not really heavy...just under nine pounds with a 30-round magazine. Which you wouldn't have had anyway.

And I've never heard a gun referred to as "Cute" before. 👍

I'm not validated either, prereqs completed in August 2004.

I had actually thought about doing exactly the same thing, more for emotional catharsis than anything. I think I might see where it goes this summer.

Well aren't you a friggin' MARINE, for cryin out loud??? Them dudes are killing machines. 👍

I guess it was hard for me to hold that big ole gun up like that, me being a li'l woman and all that. No upper body strength. I like those guns that you can hide strapped to your thigh under your petticoat or in your cleavage. 😀 That's what I mean by "cute."

Yes. I think that everyone's running around with their hair on fire.

People! Don't be this guy!!

Since we can't drive the admissions offices insane anymore with all of our phone calls I think were trying to drive each other insane.

I've read a lot of the medical school narratives - ( i think some of the best were becomming a doctor, not an entirely benign procedure, white coat, and (sort of) house of god.) I have yet to see one that spends much time on the application process. If you could find a way to make it a compelling story, it would be a great aspect to write about. I'm sure some interesting stories from the interview trail could spice the story line up. I consider intern blues, house of god, year of the intern as "horror stories" about the worst aspects of internship, medical school, and the profoundly negative impact the process can have on people. Yet, even after reading the how to apply books, the horror stories, and "most" of the books of the genre I could find (~20+), I was not prepared for the rigors of the application process.

[example of how some books covered it: I think the Perri Klass book (benign proced.) was one of the few that mentioned applying - her process was VERY relaxed. She had her parents work on her applications (or maybe they just did the legwork and secondaries?), then she spent the application year abroad while they handled cooridinating interview dates and all the rest! She basically did other things in europe and one day they told her, hey you got into harvard and hey you got published in Mademoisselle (sp!) - and she was more excited about being published... Kind of a fairly tale version of the application process. I think I would give a kidney for that kind of relaxed and successful process!]

I wish I had read a book that talked openly about the stresses, demands, hoops, games, and about how random the process can seem. (Although I probably would have thougt it was written by some overly emotional ninny! ]NOW we know better.)

Although, we are a small community (30K per year x 4 yrs of students = 120k - 200k premeds?) I would think a book like that would do well within this group based on advice from elders. I imagine many medical students would tell premeds to "read the book, it tells you exactly what the application process is really like."

Great Idea - I'm not a writer (except online when nervous!), but if you have the skill, I think it would make a great project! I'm sure many would be willing to help you in the process!

Yes, I am a former Marine. However, our lady Marines can and do heft that thing around just like us boys. 😛

And no, that wasn't me in the pic. I admit to nothing....

i finally made one of these thingies

And my UTSW status: Interviewed (???)
Last name begins with a C

okay, i am done for today 😀

ps...at this rate, we are TOTALLY breaking 5000!

As much as I hate adding to the neuroticism, I figured my information may help you guys:
I am validated as of 1/12/05 (TMDSAS)

UT Southwestern
Application Status: Interviewed
Secondary Application: Received

My last name begins with Z, so either they went through the entire alphabet today, or they are not doing it alphabetically.

However, I interviewed in September so perhaps they are doing it chronologically and not alphabetically.

Oh yeah, and I did not rank them number 1.

Hope that helps.

I am really glad that I have been away from this board today. I think I would ahve driven myself crazy.

My UTSW status page has been updated as well. I really don't know what it means. It used to say

Application Status: Interviewed
Seccondary Application: Received

Now it says:

Application Status: Application Received
Secondary Application: Received

I am not sure what this means. I originally thought it must just be updated alphabetically, because Alex, (someone else), and I have last names starting with A-D. Jdovez's last name starts with a Z, and his hasn't changed. BUT, Aprilshyla's last name starts with a C. Who knows.

I was fine with the Tech status pages changes, but UTSW affects me and I don't like it one bit!

Here's to $2 Tuesdays and passing out until Feb1st.

You've got it backwards. If your status page changed, it would now say "application received"

lol, I (selfishly) understand that.

I'm going to quit for the day as well!

Ah hah! Then perhaps my page bolsters the arguments about the change being admission?? I honestly read the last say....100 posts too fast. Thanks for the update JDAD and sorry for any confusion. I think its definitely naptime.

But Alexander's status has changed to "Application received". Does that mean that those who see "interviewed" are doomed?

My stats are decent, (34Q and 3.95) but I am an out-of-stater. My status page has changed however. I really wish I knew what this means.

My UTSW page still says interviewed as well. I feel doomed. Great, now I won't be able to concentrate for the next week....and my last name begins with a "Y". You would think that they'd change it to pending or something like that. I like the idea of someone calling....but then again, I'm way too chicken to do it.

I really have no clue what any of this means. 😕

asiandoc, what did you rank them? if not #1, then maybe it means you got into your #1.

UTSW Application Status: Application Received
Secondary Application: Received

Stilllllllllllllll not validated. Supposedly it means nothing, but to me it feels like I didn't match so tmdsas doesn't want to waste their time on a pointless validation.

I need a chill pill. ... :scared:

I ranked them #1....even though I was thinking today that I'd rather get into UTHSCSA. Still, it feels crappy to be rejected from anywhere....

Thanks, but I still feel terrible for some reason. I guess I'm stressing about school too (even though I've graduated), and I'm tired from my very long day. I just want to KNOW!

Why would they make two changes? Wouldn't it be easier to just change Interviewed to Accepted/Rejected at 12 AM on Feb. 1? God this sucks, and I'm freaking out!

Listen folks, stop this please! No one knows for certain whether you've been matched or rejected from your schools. All of this speculation should remain that: speculation. Please don't think that you've already been accepted/rejected based on the (possibly fliimsy) hypotheses being bandied about here.

Goodness.

And for what it's worth, I've been through this before (and NOT matched), so I know anxiety. But believing the speculation is just not worth the the resultant depression/anxiety .

*looks at AsianDoc* 🙂

Peace.

I'm sure the schools already know who matched and are updating their systems since they send out letters on if not just before Feb. 1. But AsianDoc816 you seem like a great applicant so don't worry and just try to relax.

meads, im in the same boat as you.

UTSW application status: Application Received
Secondary Application Received
