😉 Oh, the madness.......

I just woke up from a much needed nap and I think we've made about 40 new posts (2 pages) since I visited this page a couple hours ago. Good jobs worriers! 👍 😉 😛 HAHA

I am changing my original guess..... 5,469
Hell no. Let's start a rumor about status changes on the TAMU site (hint: there really isn't one) and it'll start a furor. Wait a bit, then do the same for UTSA. Rinse and repeat.

Hrm. That'd get us to six-kay. :meanie:

OK, I'll start.

There may have been a change to your file on the TMDSAS website. Now, we are going to play the Jerry Seinfeld Master of My Domain Game (if anyone remembers that). Try as long as you can not to check it. If you do, admit it here and we will see ultimately who is the Master of His/Her Domain!!!

Well said Evo! 👍 🙂

Thankfully TMDSAS doesn't work at night so that's one less thing to speculate and freak out about ... at least from 5pm to 8 am. 🙂

AR-15s rock. I can easily put a round through a man's (target's) head from 500 meters with one of them, no scope. And it's not really heavy...just under nine pounds with a 30-round magazine. Which you wouldn't have had anyway.

And I've never heard a gun referred to as "Cute" before. 👍

I agree. AR-15s do rock. They are a good, sturdy, all-around weapon. Scope...that would be a sin on that rifle! My weapon of choice when in Special Ops,was the CAR-15 configured with the M203 grenade launcher attached. I felt ready to handle anything! 👍

I can't believe we've gone from 4500 posts yesterday at 5pm to almost 4700 today at 8:30pm

Listen folks, stop this please! No one knows for certain whether you've been matched or rejected from your schools. All of this speculation should remain that: speculation. Please don't think that you've already been accepted/rejected based on the (possibly fliimsy) hypotheses being bandied about here.

Goodness.

And for what it's worth, I've been through this before (and NOT matched), so I know anxiety. But believing the speculation is just not worth the the resultant depression/anxiety .

AMEN my brutha, amen

And although I agree that we are winding ourselves up for nothing since we won't know anything for real until next week....

I can't access my TAMU secondary anymore. I put in my SSN and TMDSAS pin and I get a message that it doesn't recognize my SSN. 😱

Anyone else tried this yet?

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think about the Terri Schiavo case in Florida? How do you suppose this issue would be handled in a medical ethics class?

Evo and RangerD, you guys are old school! I miss my issued M4, the weapon of choice for the new "Army of One" (puke.) Pretty much the same thing with the rail system, so you can remove the carrying handle and mount a nice reflex sight for MOUT.

I wonder if the Texas thread is the only one that posts about weapons?

Yeah...old school is right! As a matter of fact, I was a 90 gunner! Do you even know what the 90mm recoiless rifle is? We called it the stove pipe.

I've see some of the cool things the guys have nowadays. I like it all. There seems to have been a real technology boost in the past several years. I guess the budget got increased. 🙄

As for the Texas thread posting about weapons... well, you know that outside of Texas, most people think Texans are all the same: Cowboys riding horses, carrying a 6-shooter, living on a farm or ranch, and with an oil well in their back yards! So, I guess talking about them there guns fits right in!

BTW, what was your MOS?

I liked the '203. But for my money, it was all about the SAW, baby. 😀

I was 0231 - Tactical/Strategic intel. I looooooooved teaching my kids battlefield tactics by gettin' 'em out in the mud. :meanie:

I was a mean 'ol Sergeant.

the fact that you guys know exactly what i am going through, and are probably the ONLY people in the world who understands EXACTLY how i feel right now, is completely priceless 🙂 🙂 🙂 i am so sick of "DID YOU HEAR YET?" and "OH, YOU'LL GET IN, DON'T WORRY!" neurotic as we all may be, you get me through my day, and sure as heck are going to be one of the greatest things about this upcoming week before the match, because as hard as they try, no one else just seems to be able to grasp how freaked out i am right now. 😍

ditto.

I've told people multiple times that I find out from the Texas schools on February 1st, and yet I still get the "Did you get in??? Oh, don't worry you'll get in!!" 🙄

Good luck all....less than a week now!! :luck:

Back to biochem... 👎

I remember looking through some class pictures at UTHSCSA showing them at BBQ's or parties. Then there was one showing some students at the shooting range. That has to be an "only in Texas" thing.

If I end up back in San Antonio this should be your first suggestion to our classmates as a bonding experience...

How cool would that be? 😀 The vets in the class to give a "weapons handling class" to their classmates.

Same thing with me! I ranked them #1. Hopefully, they are just clearing out their secondary app stuff on their website and not knocking us completely out of their system b/c we didn't get accepted.

Just out of curiousity, has anyone's master file date changed since the 14/15 of this month? I haven't heard anybody mention a change, so I imagine that our original theory regarding changing dates being indicative of whether you matched can be officially dismissed, as noone's date has changed? Another myth bites the dust... I hope

Who else has realized, actually realized, that there is nothing we can do about the match until Feb 1st. It's fun to talk about it, but it really doesn't help to stress about it or to spend you nights thinking about it.

Last night was the first night I lost sleep over the match, and I am determined not to let that happen again.

T-minus 6-days..................

5 days remaining!! (so probably only 1000 posts to go!)

<----- Does the strain show?

Wow! I go to bed at midnight (Central European Time), and wake up to find almost 5 pages of newly-posted paranoia to read through. Glad I'm not the only one! 😱

Still not validated, but currently finishing prerequisites. I received a message from TMDSAS in response to my frantic worrying about validation. Basically, they said that the schools knew what we needed to finish when we interviewed, so the validation has very little bearing on the match.

Evo, RangerD, and dizzydog, take a look at the new weapon that is up for contract to replace the M-16. It looks like something to give a 10 year old for Christmas (but only if he has been very good!).

They had it on display at last year's Land Combat Expo here in Heidelberg. The vendor mistook me for OGA (longer hair/beard), so I got the VIP treatment. It scared me when infantry soldiers started asking me ballistic questions after. Heck, I was a Corpsman!

I'm getting these exact same remarks! The same people keep asking me over and over "Did you get in?" or "Where are you going?" and I keep having to say I don't know until Feb 1st. It sucks being in school out of state because a lot of the other students have acceptances by now and I'm still uncertain.

You could have a big deer hunting trip in SA with the students! There are some good deer out there. I have a deer lease not far from there I go to each year.

I have to agree with Evo on the M249...The SAW was my baby during Ranger school!

Edit: You are right...I have never even heard of the 90mm...

11B here. Yeah, the SAW was a nice lady to have around. So you went to Ranger school.. Hooah! 👍 Nice to know a fellow Ranger is around here. I served my time in the 1st Ranger Batallion. Did you ever serve as a Ranger in a Ranger Bat, or were you from a regular unit that sent you to get tabbed?

Yeah, that's a nice rifle! I saw it featured on Roll Call a little while back. One thing I miss about being in is getting to play with all the cool toys!

Why the hell would anyone gain satisfaction about going out into the woods with a large weapon to shoot a helpless (cute) animal from a great distance? I have never understood why people consider this "sporting". I mean that makes absolutely no sense to me. I can understand how back in the day you could say you accomplished something if you went out with a knife and hunted and killed a bear. That, perhaps, would be an accomplishment fulfilling our base animalistic desire to be the alpha species. But taking a big ass gun and shooting bambi? WTF??? Also, does all this talk of weaponry mean that you guys feel the need to compensate for something? I am just curious why one would feel the need to really keep up with the newest ways of killing things, as that is really the only purpose of a gun. I really just do not understand the psychological structure of this mindset. Please enlighten me.
Oh, and besides some areas of the midwest, I am sure Texas is the only place that would have future doctors discussing which is their favorite weapon of death (that they have used).

I used to think the same way. I thought poor, cute little deer. That is, until one jumped in the road in front of me and I slammed into its solid body which totalled my Nissan Sentra. Since then, I've come into a few other close calls with deer and I think more people should hunt them because they are extremely overpopulated in certain areas of Texas. Out here its pretty bad and a number of people are killed each year.....we hear about it all of the time but that's b/c we're in East TX and that's the biggest news we have besides the latest meth lab explosion (that happens quite frequently out here).

Anyway, I don't like guns either. I don't care if other people enjoy them, I'm just frightened by them and I don't think I ever want to shoot one, much less hold it.

Harsh! Just because people like guns doesn't mean they're base. Have you tried shooting a rifle before? Not as easy as it looks. It takes great skill to even hit the target, not to mention hit it in a certain spot so as not to destroy the meat, hide, or trophy head. Lighten up, don't jump all over people because you think something is wrong.

I have no reason to shoot a rifle so i have not. I do not argue that it takes skill to be effective at using such a weapon. It is not so dissimilar to say, the bow and area back in medieval times. However, these weapons were designed to be just that, weapons to kill. I have no desire to be an assassin, so I do not have the skills associated with such, just as I have no desire to learn the skills that would make me effective at firing a weapon. I truly am trying to understand the mindset that makes this type of activity seem both pleasurable and acceptable. I did not say oh you are evil to want to fire a weapon, but I do not think it is right, nor do I really think this is the forum for such discussions. But, if you guys bring it up, then I will give my opinion and wish to know about it. As far as SFAJess and the dear population, I do not know much about that and in such a circumstance, I would say an organization should be developed to help address those issues, not have a bunch of random "hunters" go out and start firing at them.

My sister ran into a deer during high school....it seriously damaged the front hood of her car (my parents paid a ton to fix it). I also live in a very wooded area of Austin, and the deer population is out of control. You can't drive late at night without seeing families of deer running across the street/highway. Sometimes, they just sit there and stare at you....it's almost as if they're saying, "Are you gonna run into/over me?" Yah, they're cute but annoying as well!

Welcome to the madness that is the TX Applicants thread. 😀

Mmmmm, that rifle looks sexy! 😍 I wonder how it actually works in real life???

*Edit* Hrm. I don't see good 'ol "iron sights" anywhere. What happens if your scope is hit? 🙄

Erm, are you a vegetarian? because unless you abstain from eating any animal products or by products, and never wear leather, I would say that your opinion is a little bit hypocritical.

The vast majority of hunters enjoy hunting and also eat the meat from the deer they kill.

Now, I am firmly comfortable with my hypocrisy. I don't like to hunt. (I do like target shooting though) However, I enjoy the fruits of my families love of hunting. mmmmm venison. quite yummy.

Many hunters also donate extra meat to programs like Hunters for the Hungry, which aides to not waste meat AND feed hungry people.

Dude, climb down off your horse. 🙄

Personally, I don't hunt. But if I lived in areas where deer were overrunning everything (like Jess was saying) then I might.

Your comment,

is typical of what I'll call "Liberal disdain" syndrome: sneering disdain of that which you don't understand, an air of moral superiority, and the need to lob insults ("compensating").

It is because people like RanderD, dizzydog, myself, and erlaza served in our armed forces throughout the history of America (and will continue to do so in the future) that you have the opportunity to have a nice, safe life. Read history, my friend. It is only very recently in the history of the world that the average citizen could live a life in complete ignorance of weapons and self defense, and not suffer the consequences to their life and livelihood. In some places (most of Africa, the ME) if you're not armed then you're roadkill.

People kill, my friend. It's a failing of the human condition. Better to have the very best weapons to defend yourself (or your family, country, the innocents of Bosnia, etc) than to end up as a statistic.

I know there are others out there who are constantly asked if they got in. For those of us who interviewed in early fall - even late summer - this has been a VERY, VERY long wait. Good luck to everyone. I can't wait to know the awesome people that I will *hopefully* be going to class with this fall.

-Tiffany 😀
