The wait is torture.....I should have gone to work today so I would actually have something to do!

And Evo, I'm taking your Saturday night trick to the airport in a few. The 3 S's is headin North!

On another topic unrelated to the match, what kind of laptop would you all reccommend for medical school? I like the Sony VAIO and was thinking about that but I wanted to get people's opinions about different laptops. I don't like Gateways cause that was my 1st laptop and it broke right after the warranty expired and my boss at work has a Dell but he always has problems with it. Any help would be great!!!

i have a sony vaio at home (4+ years old) and dell inspirions at work. the vaio has aged well, no problems to date except that the battery has lost its ability to hold a charge. that is expected with the age of the laptop. everyone at work uses a dell inspiron (7500 and 8000); they get beaten up a lot, but seem to hold up quite well.

good luck to everyone on the thread; i hope everyone gets their match. i have been lurking for a while, and find it comforting to see others that are going thru the same ordeal.

Hmm I hadn't really looked at toshiba...i'll have to look at them...i need something lightweight cause i'm breaking my back carrying my current laptop.

Hang in there y'all !! I've been thinking about the Houston crew all day !!!

Evo -- I forgot my cell today, so PM me if we're still doing pizza 🙂

I'd recommend a toshiba tablet pc (really a laptop with a touch screen that flips around) if you want something to take notes on. If you are going to ultimate in portability, get one the Sony VAIO mini. I am going to have a hard time chosing between the two, but will probably end up getting the sony or its tiny size. I already have a desktop, so I don't want a desktop supplement.

ibm thinkpad t series

i have a t41, and its amazing.

You people are insane 😱. Everytime I come back there's like 20 new pages. There's a post every minute or so, now that we're down to the wire 😛

Quick question: I know last year some people got early acceptance letters. Apparently the mail arrived before match day. Anyone receive any this year?

No. The schools are probably dropping them in the mail today 😱

:barf: <----- Sorry, JDAD

thanks guys..now all I need is for one of you to go shopping 🙂...lol...i'm going to have to check out all these different laptops..i'm on the sony and toshiba pages now...i'm going to waste the rest of my work hours looking at these web pages

I have the feeling that after I get home from work tonight at 10:30 I'll spend the remainder of the time until match catching up on posts here... Just hope there aren't more than an hr. and a half's worth!

I'm going to vote against the Dell laptops. I had one for two years (Inspiron 8100) and it was a piece of junk. Now I'm using the Compaq/HP Presario X1000 and it Rocks. 👍 And cheap, too!

Well we are aiming for 6000 posts according to Jess by midnight which I think at this rate will be exceeded.

Good Luck everyone..only 8 hours and 17 minutes to go :luck: :luck: :luck:

IBM T42's are some of the best laptops you can get. Pretty lightweight and very long battery life. They aren't "pretty" like toshiba's or sony's, but they have the best constuction. If you twist the case of a crappily built system like Dell, you will hear the plastic creak. A well-built system will not creak when you press down on the wrist pads. Only downside is that they are pricey.

No letters (good, bad, or otherwise) in my mailbox today.

Hello people.

I have been enjoying/stressing over all the comments that have been posted for the past few weeks. I just wanted to tell y'all that it has at least been entertaining to read the posts. Takes off some of the pressure 🙂 - but that pressure is replaced with frantic panic 😳 . Good luck to all tonight!

Does anyone know how well the writing recognition/translation is on the toshiba tablets

Doesn't the whole wait feel like Christmas? However, it is like a Christmas where you aren't sure if you will receive gifts or not. Has anyone read/listened to David Sedaris' rendition of "Six to Eight Black Men"? I think it is a lot like the match...

"Listen, you might want to pack a few of your things together before you go to bed. The former bishop from Turkey will be coming along with six to eight black men. They might put some candy in your shoes, they might stuff you in a sack and take you to Spain, or they might just pretend to kick you. We don't know for sure, but we want you to be prepared"

I'm going to bed and really want to wake up with the figurative "candy" in my shoe.

I recommend Fujitsus for tablet PC's. The toshiba's writing/recognition, IMO, is not any different from the others....of course, I have crappy handwriting 🙂

So I'm totally ignorant about the new things that are out laptop wise but when did they make a laptop that you can write on and it will convert to a typed document..man it is a shame cause i am an EE i should be on top of these things..i am learning wonders on these websites.

Go to "User CP" (upper right hand blue tab), "Edit Avatar" and upload a picture of your choice. That's how I got my puppy's pic up there.

Alright I am off to class till 9...there will probably be 5 pages worth of stuff for me to read when i get back

those tablet PCs have been out for a couple years, but i have never seen one in action. makes me wonder if anyone is really using them.

are they expecting us to lug laptops around campus? when i interviewed at TCOM, i looked into a couple of the classes, but i didnt see many people with laptops out.

i'm a EE too,

Do you have a picture editing program? I have Micrsft Picture manager and it lets me edit my pictures. I changed the size from 1028 pixels to 100(which is the size they want)

are you guys going to post your results here right after you find out?

That will probably be on the bottom of the list for informing people of the results. 😉

OK, I'll be the first, Mac iBook G4.
I switched from a Toshiba Satellite, which is still a great machine.

I know. I was bumping so that it doesn't get buried somewhere. Remember: page 294! 😀

Time to close up shop and go home.

I will probably see you guys tomorrow morning 😀!

Have a great night and remember to think of positive thoughts. 😉

It seem you guys have been discussing several things other than the match. Let me catch up with you peeps:

Sony vaio is the computer to have 👍

Vodka tonic is the elixer of choice 😎

Mailman is unusually late today +pissed+

writing a thesis proposal up until 11:01 pm (west texan 😀 )

Why can't this day just end??? :scared:

Would it be okay to put "No Initial Match" as opposed to "Did not match" ? Seems like a nicer way of putting it... but as is would work too. just a thought....=)

The sleepless night I had last night has just hit me....I have two study groups for Human Phys and Genetics at 5 and at 6 and I don't think I'm gonna make it!!!! I wish I could cancel, but that wouldn't be right. Well I'm all prepared physically for the groups...got my chalk, my handouts, my sign-in sheet, but I don't think I'm gonna be all there mentally. We will see how it turns out. I just have to make it thru these two hours! Then I can take a nap and eat dinner....my buds are making me dinner.... YUM!! I'm too lazy to cook anyway.

Good luck tonight...I'm off to work for now! I'll be seeing y'all later tonight! Hopefully, we will all have good news for each other!
