This is gonna be one twisted ride. (Sorry, I had to delete that damn dancing banana).
hopefully all of us here will be dancing when december rolls along.

i wonder if applying early will have the same effect this year since there are so many MCAT dates that people can choose from now. any thoughts? i feel like, in general, more people will get their apps in earlier than previous cycles.

Ready or not, this is going to be a wild ride!! I've been waiting for this time for years and years. Just took the MCAT for the 2nd time. Staying hopeful. GPA is in the bag ~3.85. LOR 4 down, working on one. Working on PS. Extracurriculars and volunteering down solid. Good luck everyone! We are all going to need all the support we can get. Who better than those going through the same ordeal. Keep up the good work and STOP STRESSING SO FREAKIN' MUCH! It'll screw you over!

I think that overall people will get their apps in earlier, but there will be less people applying at the earliest time. April MCAT people will have their scores in May, so they will be ready to apply as soon as AMCAS comes out. It seems to me that May MCAT dates are the most popular...so the numbers of people who apply on Jun 1st will be less than in the past. Of course, I don't know if this will really affect things overall since med schools don't really start to do anything until July, so who knows.
It may be even more important this cycle to apply as early as possible.

+pad+ what is this used for?

For the second time around sadly. On a WL and I decision pending, but I'm preparing to apply again this time around in case nothing works out.

This is probably a dumb question, but how can I send in my transcripts now? I cant seem to get onto Amcas! How have some of you guys done it?!

Also - for the LOR's, from the amcas website it seems like you dont need them for primaries, only secondaries. so how come people are getting them sent out already :S

Does anyone know if im an engg grad, and ive taken a year of prereqs or "postbacc" if thats the only thing I count in the BPCM avg?

Thanks a lot!!

im pretty sure they mean getting the LOR's from their professors into their pre med advisor's office who will probably write a composite letter.

I don't think you can send transcripts yet because there is a printout from AMCAS that has to go with them.. When AmCAS opens for 2008 (may 3rd) you can get the print out and then get transcripts sent.

LOR getting prepared.. or having them sent to Interfolio if people are using that service to submit LOR

All courses count that are BPCM into the BPCM average.. Although I'm not sure how postbac figurese in if it's in it's own calculation or added in with your undergrad. anybody know?

ah ok..yea i dont have a premed advisor office out here....do your references have to be from science? i guess it would depend on the secondary....

thanks!

had to save the thread

I'm in denial that we lost, but I guess its time to change it.
at least your undergrad basketball team is good enough to actually make it into NCAA tournaments 😛

I know it's too early to worry about this, but does anyone know...if I'm planning on submitting my app in early June and then moving to another city in July, how much trouble am I going to encounter while changing my address with AMCAS? Is it a quick thing or am I going to lose massive amounts of mail in the process? If yes, should I just go ahead and put my July 1st address on everything when I submit my application? It sounds like secondaries don't come out till July-August anyway (I'm applying regular decision everywhere).

welcome to SDN 2007-2008 NOOBIES!

if you get smacked around for being NOOBS do not take it personally!

Now I feel even more behind! I don't take the MCAT until May 31st, I haven't asked anyone for LORs yet and I can't seem to get started on my PS.

I'm a walking disaster before I have even started! This can't be a good sign...

Don't use me as an example but I got my MCAT scores back June 23rd, wrote my PS after that (during the summer while 'everyone else' seemed to already be applying), submitted my AMCAS August 1st, and LORs/secondaries in Oct/Nov, and I'm headed off to school this Fall. I was woefully uninformed about the process and would not advocate this strategy but the point is, don't freak out (yet). You can do it!! Good luck everyone!!! :luck: :luck:

So I may be with you guys...

Still waiting to hear from two schools post-interview, but thought I'd throw my hat in and get psyched!!

Look what I found on the 4th page. I had to rescue it.

Just took my last exam for the semester!

Alrighty, count me in for applying with y'all. I'll be a re-applicant, various factors held me back last year (mainly applying late and not to enough schools, I think). But I'll be ready to go ASAP and to more schools this year.

I'm narrowing my list of schools to apply to now, any advice or feedback on my current list on my MDapps would be appreciated.

thanks y'all... may is creepin' up on us quick

When AMCAS opens on May 3rd, will we be able to fill out the application online and have it ready for submission in june?

i think thats the idea, so you can get ur transcripts verified and all the nice stuff. but hopefully someone thats been through the process can opine.

You can fill it out and print out the form that goes with your transcripts. You can't submit it to be verified until June 1st I think..

P.S. I already posted on here.. but if anybody is bored and wants to check out my MD app profile I just updated it Still deciding what schools and what not.

bumpity bump. don't want this to get lost in the shuffle.

but I do have a question: I am doing very well in one of my non-science classes this semester, and I would love to have a letter of rec from from the teacher. Thing is, the teacher is a grad student finishing up her PhD, so she's not technically faculty. Would a letter count from her as a non-science letter? Or do I need an actual faculty member to write one? And where can I get this answered by the AMCAS people?

I don't think that asking AMCAS is the right way to go. I think this is something to be sorted out with the individual schools, since AMCAS has nothing to do with rec letters and the definitions of what is science and what is not. Look through the list of schools you wanna apply to that require the science letter and e-mail them directly.

Okay so I now have all my LOR's and transcripts uploaded and on interfolio. Does anyone know how I send that info to amcas (for 2008 cycle)?

Thanks

You could give them a try but you better ask now before it starts to get really busy b/c they have a very low tolerance for questions that they feel are "not worth their time." I knew plenty of people last year that applied that had non phd professors (even grad students finishing them up) as their recommendation letters.

as soon as the application opens, everything's fair game. I suggest you turn it in VERY early, maybe even before june if you are ready. I can guarantee you that there plenty of reapplicants from last year that will already have everything ready before AMCAS opens its apps. They'll probably turn it in within couple weeks. good luck

you don't. amcas has nothing to do with LORs. You wait for secondaries and then send them to specific schools that send you the secondaries. Also why is your transcript on interfolio? Most universities have an office or registrar system that sends them in officially to whomever you request (like amcas).

i agree with underdog... i think on May 3rd amcas will open, and you can proceed to fill it out and print out the transcript form to send in ASAP, but once you have everything filled out on the amcas (activities, PS, etc.) you won't be able to submit it until june 4th or 5th or whatever the day is this year.

just wanted to get in on this too...

reapp from 06-07 cycle... one thing i can tell you guys (and you've already heard it a million times already in EVERY forum) is to apply as early as possible, esp. for us underdogs...

are there any underdog URMs (like me) out there?

Evenyone is so far ahead of me...I have to finish this 20 page paper on West Nile virus before I can even think about AMCAS!

And I need to find out about my MCAT score. May 16th, here I come!!

:scared:

Ah, I'm in the same boat. I have so much schoolwork - even before I finish something, there are already 4 more things that I need to be working on. I have no idea when I'm going to get around to my PS... I really want it to be this weekend. And my MCAT score is supposed to come May 9th... hope the scores are on time. Good luck, little pebble!

Well I am a nontrad and not currently in the US. I also had four schools to get transcripts from and figured interfolio would be the easiest. This way my mom does not have to do too much from that side and I can now just go online and click to have interfolio send them to aamc. I got this idea from others who had used interfolio. I am new to this process so I hope it works.

aww crap .. amcas comes out tomorrow
