I'm obviously beginning to freak out as my options are dwindling...
I sent a thank you email to my POI from my top choice after my interview and I got a quick reply back that stated I was "an excellent candidate for the program" and he would be in touch shortly.
At first this solidified my belief that I was a good fit and definitely bolstered my confidence... but now, after 2 weeks and no decision from the program, I don't know.
Do you think I'm reading too much into his email? Is this a typical response to a thank you note?
Most people don't respond to thank you notes, and the professor would have no reason to say you're excellent if s/he didn't really feel that way. I would say it's a good sign. And some programs are just slow in making decisions/sending notifications.
