I have been feeling a lot of guilt.. I compare myself to fellow classmates and see how they do so much better than me and probably will make to med school and I won't I have made some horrible mistakes in the past the 2C in calc and bio as well as the D but I'm retaking the The D next semsters so the DO should replace the grade but I'm not perfect. I dont know how to give myself confidence that I'm not same as everyone there fore I'm not receiving the grades they are. How should I boost my confidence I was always an A student in hs and now down to a 2.6 cumulative GPA I feel like I'm worthless and I know with the grades in orgo in the summer and physics and gen chem if I do my hardest I can bring it up but I need confidence any advice?

I am kinda on the edge with my MCAT score. 26 (7ps/9vr/10bs). How detrimental do you guys think that 7 on the PS will be?
Plus I withdrew from Organic chemistry 2 and lab so will med schools see that as a negative?

I am not sure that I agree with you guys on this underdog cutoff thing you have enforced here... I actually think anything below a 27 is pretty hard to get in with, especially with a matching low GPA or MCATs that were not consistently going up each time. Also, this guy you have linked is ridiculous! He was a freaking ski racing instructor and a pilot! 😛 Obviously his stats were not the only thing that got him into med school!

Anyway, I was just being snoopy on this thread... I used to be an underdog (GPA around 2.8-2.9 and MCAT at 27, which was after 5 attempts) and it is nice to see that these threads are still going. I am now a week from graduating med school and going off to an emergency medicine residency, and I really don't think I would be where I am without SDN and the supportive group of premeds I met on here. Applying will be about the worst wait of your life (until residency applications at least) but it is also leading you to the beginning of one of the most life changing experiences you will ever get the chance to be apart of. Don't give up, don't back down and don't leave anything behind. Also, don't listen to your advisors! They will tell anyone without a 4.0 and a 30 that they won't make it into medical school! My undergrad advisor told me I wouldn't make it to med school, and my med school advisor told me I would never make it into an EM residency... They don't know what you're capable of. Good luck to everyone applying this cycle! I can't wait to see where you all end up interviewing and getting acceptances to!

Don't know what your GPA is, but your 7 will be fine. I applied last year with a 27 (7 ps/10 vr/10 bs - so basically almost identical to your score) and had no problems. Also - the W in orgo 2 will be okay as long as you don't have millions of withdrawals/failures littering your transcript. Good luck!

Both science and non-science GPA is >3.5
And those are the only W's I have.

Above all, I recommend blanketing applications to all of the newer and lower tier schools, and applying to at least 15 schools overall.

For example: @evooo8 applied in this manner and was able to land an acceptance with only a 3.16 and 25.

I agree, I am doing the same and applying to 19 DO schools

@surgeryDO I took the test in April and based off of the percentiles they sent me that is what I am guessing my score will be around. It will definetly be below 500 but not too far from it! I am retaking it in July to get above the 500 mark!

Whoaa. @Gordon Gekko What course classifications changed for you? Anyway you can retake and/or add some more sci classes? I'm sorry for you bro. I wish this stuff works out for you. Was rooting for you last cycle as well!

Thanks, man. Yeah, so the past 12+ yrs, professional coursework (PharmD, OD, JD, etc) was not included in the AACOMAS GPA. So magically this cycle my 41 credits of 1.47 is included. Burrell and my SMP backdoor may be my only hope this cycle. Who knows, by the time I get back above 3.0, they'll disallow retakes. At this point, it may be quicker to become fluent in Spanish and apply to Puerto Rico MD schools. Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear that. Unlike grad and undergrad courses, professional courses are near impossible to retake because you have to be in their program. You can try and check with the DO schools and see what their policy is when looking at GPA.

Hey guys! I just wanted to know what you guys think my chances for DO schools are. I really don't care where I go, I just really want to become a doctor. I have an interest in primary care or psychiatry. I'm really worried about my stats. Should I retake a class in the summer? Should I wait until next year?

Various other medical clubs and leader in my church group I am active in.
Will be getting scribe job by the time I submit applications.
The psych classes I took were very science based.
My trend is slightly upward. Kind of messed up Fall of senior year due to some personal problems.
State of residence is NJ, but will go anywhere.

What does that make your overall now?

I am surprised with your MCAT that you are having trouble getting into schools. I thought your GPA was around the 3.0 range

I had a 7 in my physical sciences section when I applied (actually my MCAT was the exact same breakdown as yours.) It didn't end up being an issue. You will probably be asked why you withdrew from the lab but overall I don't see it being a big deal. I never took Orgo II lab.

I thought you are required to take two semesters of organic chemistry...

You are. But at my school Organic chemistry is a 5 hour credit. You are required to have 8 units, so I only had to take the lecture (3 hours) for Orgo II.
