On behalf of the Admissions Committee we thank you for giving us the opportunity to review your academic credentials and achievements. I regret to inform you that you are not among those applicants selected for admission to the Class of 2017. This year, the College received a record number of applications. These are times of very strong interest in dentistry; the credentials of our applicants have yielded more stringent admissions requirements than ever in the history of our school. The large number of well-qualified applicants for a limited number of places in the first year class made admission extremely selective.

We wish you the very best in your dental education and we thank you once again for your interest in Columbia University.

I interviewed end of January. I called today and they said they'll send out all admit/waitlist/reject emails today through friday for everyone--so HOPEFULLY we'll know SOON.

Hey all... I noticed that at the bottom of the email it says they need a response by March 4th (2 days!) Just wanted to point that out to anyone who wants to still be considered- make sure you respond!

I too got waitlisted but will not be adding my name to the list since I have already committed to another school and it would be unethical for me to add my list just to see if I ended up getting accepted. At this point, I am excited to have a spot in another great school and hope this frees up a spot for someone whose first choice is Columbia. Good Luck everyone!

Does anyone know what our chances are now after being wait listed ? Is it likely that they accept a lot of people from the wait list or not? I'm sure it varies every year but does anyone know an estimate? Or if you're currently a student, how many people in your class came from the wait list ?

It seems like they pretty much wait listed everyone they interviewed that wasn't accepted so that means there are probably over a hundred people on the wait list. Seems like there's really no chance now so might as well just move on.

I think that some people will get off the wait list from now until ~April when people who are holding multiple seats have to make a final decision. Good luck!

Not at all! I had a low undergrad GPA due to a slow start I guess (3.15, but 4.0 semesters my last 2 years). I have 4.0 graduate GPA, 22AA (22 everything else except bio with 24), biochemistry supplemental instructor, p. gingivalis research, and now doing some research on ketogenic diets.
I never expected the call so this is a surprise! Good luck!!!! Let me know if you have any more questions! 🙂
